im having what i thinks a severe panic attack. ive had them the last 3 days startin with a hangover. i think i was having lsa flashbacks that day or it might be alcohol withdrawal (havent drank since but i dont think im addicted)

its quite terrifying should i take some valium? or what can i do?

My older brother suffers from anxiety attacks so I know a little bit about them. Benzo's will help with the attacks, but they are addicting-if you have had problems with alcohol before then they might not be the best course of action. Have you seen a doctor about this problem yet?

I haven't had problems with alcohol, it's just that this never happened before the other day, when I was hungover and had been drinking moderately heavily for a few days. I'm going to a doctor in the next hour but I don't see what they can do. :\

Seems to have stopped for now at least. I wasn't sure if valium would help, what with it being a depressant and me having that breathless feeling.

Are you prescribed Valium?
What symptoms are you having?
You said shortness of breath.....? That is common during a panic attack.
How many attacks have you had over the last 3 days?

You might try taking deep breaths at the start of an attack- yes, this actually helps and can sometimes get you out of an attack. I have panic disorder and General Anxiety Disorder and breathing is one of my biggest natural solutions......it won't make your attacks not happen or anything, but it can calm you down. If you can identify a trigger, focusing on your breath , starting with at least 3 deep breaths, can help prevent anxiety........
Being hyper aware- or mindful of the immediate surroundings and happenings is also a way to channel the anxious energy.

I hope this goes away for you soon!

if you can type during an anxiety attack yer probably haveing only a mild attack as a full blown one will floor you...
but yes valium will help just dont become dependant on them.
Also concider the other options for your feelings ,it may not even be an attack it could be vascular or who knows .
As stated see a doc if yer worried.
Always see a doc if your concerned....

my worst panic attacks had me convinced that I was going to die, literally scared the shit out of me, once I even called my mom to say goodbye because I was that convinced I was going to die, luckily she got me to calm down enough to feel better.

just stopping drugs doesn't mean the panic attacks will stop, I stopped all drugs for awhile and it helped but I still had occasional panic attacks from hell that would come out of nowhere, literally I'd be fine one minute and the next I'd feel like I couldn't breathe, my heart would be racing, I'd feel an intense need to runaway from wherever was...etc. I've never found any specific trigger.

learn as much as you can about panic attacks, if you are hungover or rundown you're more prone to having one but you can have one at any time. my panic attacks led me to benzos which have probably been the worst part of the whole thing because they are very hard to come off of.

the best I've been able to do is recognize that I'm having a panic attack and relax, call a friend if I need to, try and do something else to distract me from that panic feeling. I can do this now because I'm more aware of them and if you can feel one coming on you have a better chance of preventing a full blown panic attack.

for me the panic attacks were debilitating at their worst but I never allowed them to stop me from doing anything, I did have to use meds and in my case I needed the benzos at first I just wish I would have known the consequences of staying on them for more than a few weeks.

hopefully yours won't be that bad, in hindsight I've had the most trouble with them during times when I was overstressed or needed to make changes in my life that I wasn't making. a bad relationship can exacerbate panic disorder like nothing else.

get the help you need, if you end up on a benzo don't use it daily if you can avoid it, try CBT or other things in addition to meds. good luck!

The worst had passed at that point, it seems to be severe for about 20 minutes then stop after an hour or two.

Haven't been taking any drugs other than alcohol. Doctor seemed to think it's alcohol withdrawal so I've stopped. I'm not prescribed valium but I can get it and probably will if this keeps up.
