Using high doses of Codeine Phosphate for Opiate Withdrawal

Hello all. I had been using Oxycodone roughly 120mg-200mg/daily for the past couple months. Although this is my second time detoxing off Oxycodone and it seems rough as hell even though I am not at as high of a dose of Oxycodone as I was before.

Anyway, I went to a doctor and he gave me a script for 240 30mg Codeine Phosphate tablets. I have been taking about 270mg of Codeine every 6-7 hours for the past day here. I also have Clonidine 0.1mg tablets (45) of them. I have two 2mg Clonazepam left, and about 15mg of Diazepam left.

I feel like I am in agony all the fucking time, this is brutal. Feels worse than my last withdrawal.

I am just wondering if using high amounts of Codeine like this is dangerous? There is no APAP or anything else in the Codeine tablets, just Codeine phosphate.

Thanks

However, codeine is, in general, not used in single doses of greater than 60 mg (and no more than 240 mg in 24 hours)

He gave me 240 Codeine Phosphate tablets because he said that he didn't have his Triplicate Prescription Pad with him. In Alberta and most other provinces across Canada you need a TPP (Triplicate Prescription Pad) to write Narcotics anything greater than Codeine or Tramadol.

^well that must have been frustrating.

and there is no reason for you to stop taking the codeine. that post was nonsense.

Taking high amounts of codeine to remove your oxycodone physical withdrawal symptoms is not how it's done.
^nope, in this case that is exactly how it's done. and i think you have a skewed perception of what a huge amount of codeine is.

Ok, reported.

how is replacing one opiate with another that is probably one of the weakest opiates out there how its done? why not just get on sub?

^doesn't sound ideal, does it? but that is what his doctor gave him, and not taking the codeine sure isn't gonna help.

Because I don't want to get on Suboxone. I have been on it in the past, and there is a huge waiting list here, its not very common yet in Canada and there are only two doctors in my City that can write Suboxone. Not to mention if I were to get on Sub, I'd have to goto the pharmacy everyday to get my dose.

Codeine is also a hell of a lot weaker than Oxycodone. Taking Codeine for a few days would sure benefit me right now, and than I could gradually reduce my dosages of Codeine.

You could use subs and cut down, oxy and cut down, codiene and cut down, whatever.

All you're doing in any one of those situations is just trying to lower the tolerance as much as possible to avoid any serioius w/ds. So it's not as if it's going to put you in any worse shape. Although best bet would probably just deal with a week of having the flu and more on instead of delaying it, but thats just me

This is a confusing thread... I am baffled by some of these responses.

I didn't have time to say more earlier, but I wanted to at least put your mind at ease some... there is nothing dangerous about what you're taking.

According to narcotic converters 270mg codeine = 27mg oxycodone (both taken orally) so if you're aim is to get off, tapering with codeine is fine. It might not be as good as sub or 'done due to short half-life, but its better than your DOC.

What's your taper plan?

^its less or equivalent to the oxy he was taking and more than half of your summation there, I didn't AT ALL get from his posts.

Of course he's taking his drugs recreationally and he's looking to get off them so he's using the codeine to taper with... am I wrong somewhere?

And seriously, enough with the judgmental bullshit. PEOPLE ON BL USE DRUGS TO GET HIGH.
