Using Remeron as a sleep aid?

I can across a few remeron pills in a giant goodie bag with other assorted pharms. I initially dismissed the remeron as useless for my purposed but kept them around.

I know remeron lulls you into a deep slumber, and I have insomnia problems every now and then. Would it be a good idea to use these just once in a while to get to sleep? Would any weird side effects come from this and will I feel like shit in the morning?

Yes you can use mirtazapine as a sleep aid once in a while. It can leave you a bit groggy in the morning, but I didn't notice anything too unbearable.

Note... take a SMALL dose of 15 mg or less to help with sleep. At higher doses, Remeron acts more on norepinepherine receptors and will reduce the drowsy effects.

It works well as a sleep aid. However, it has strange effects. It can give you weird dreams about ordinary things. Early the next morning as you are nearing when you would be waking up, you can dream that you wake up and go and do something, then wake up in bed again and go do something else, then wake up in bed again etc.. It can be a very disturbing moment when you finally Actually wake up, you are confused etc..

This doesn't happen to everyone, happened to me once and was enough for me to stop taking mirtazipine every night. (Chronic Insomnia)

most mornings were ok, some were quite drowsy.

I was recommended ot start with 7.5mg, then try 15mg. I wouldn't go above 30mg ever, it loses its sedative qualities in higher doses with very little range (ie. 0-15 mg very sedating, 60mg not very sedating at all)

^^ glad it works for you;
I'm slowly building up a supply of sleep aids I've been Rx'd but have discontinued using for one reason or another. Zoloft, Trazadone, Mitrazaipine...

opiates give me exactly these dreams.

I realize zoloft is used primarily as a sleep aid but it was Rx'd to me to try and treat anxiety w/ the thought that the anxiety was the underlying cause of my insomnia; after 2 months of use it had zero effects on me, none good none bad, so I stopped taking it.

It, or another SSRI, is often rx'd before something in the benzo class as a treatment for generalized anxiety disorder. Though, at least in my experience it seems like the doc/psych's way of saying we are going to treat you for depression w/o actually saying you are depressed as maybe your depression is causing insomnia.

I told the doctor that prescribed it that Sertraline has actually been linked to causing insomnia from withdrawal or what they call "discontinuation syndrome" he didn't have much to say;
