Hyperthetical question here.


If and IF when the next Great War calls upon us. what will you do? Will you hide and ride it out or fight? Which side of the war will you be on ? :P



Personally I think Australian outback is a perfect place to hide and ride it out.

Me my self and my caravan, WITH LOADS OF DRUGS and bake beans. And wait for the war to finish :D

Not enough water in the outback. It would all depend on whether there is a nuclear winter brought on by nuclear weapons. This may/will likely fuck up current weather patterns and dictate where you could survive.

The North Queensland hinterland with it's high rainfall and lush tropical rainforest is perfect for an end of days compound . However the next great war will be fought over water not oil, and North Queensland is an easy hop skip and jump from 300 million desperate Indonesian's, not to mention countless other Asian countries who would also see the region as a strategic target.

Instead I will sail for the South Island, produce my NZ passport and set up house in South Otago, somewhere around the lakes. It's isolation has proved it's self in the past and with a large supply of the worlds purest water it is perfect to see out end of days. The winters, although cold, are not as harsh as say Europe, so farming the fertile volcanic soil is easier. Depending on my location I may also be able to locate a geothermal active spring, supplying boiling hot spring fed water that could also power a steam generator.

I would build a compound like this pretty place....

please note that the stone walls would be more fortified with crude booby traps to help protect my family.

Fuel would be impossible to obtain so my farming methods would have to be low tech. At present South Otago is perfect for grapes and stone fruit so fruit orchards would be set up. Corn may struggle in winter but long summer daylight hours may help. Kumera and potatoe would probably be my staples. With access to a lake I would ideally build a fish farm and fill it with trout. I have no idea how rice would fair but there is plenty of water to give it a try.

There are many skills I have to acquire before end of days. Glass blowing /production would be one. A small glasshouse would be invaluable for growing weed. Lsd production would be impossible without some serious set up so either I stock up on a kg of crystal or build my self a shroomery. Surviving attacks from roving gangs would be the biggest concern so guerrilla warfare and a strong community of like minded survivors is a must.

I haven't thought much about this in the past. %) Waits to see what Tiata and P_D have already planned. ;)

Also do u think the internet will still be around after the initial war. How will people communicate with others. back to the old ways of telegram/morse codes????
 
Worst case scenario would probably mean it is every man and his family for themselves. Power stations would be obvious targets in any war so it may be back to the stone age for many. It would be interesting to see how many people would survive without mod cons.

Water food and warmth are the three must haves. You only have to watch how cities descend into utter chaos after natural disasters with rioting and looting to realise without a controlling military presence you are better off hiding and not make a noise.
 
Are we just talking about a hypothetical world war 3, or a full-on apocalypse, with possible nuclear destruction (and/or zombies.... just for the sake of conversation ;) )?
 
Could I at least make jerky out of your carcase and leather sandals from your skin? Any tattoos you have would be sweet decoration.

On topic im much in the same mind as Busty... though the one thing i have done in the last 2 years is to learn to live off the land and its not an easy thing to do! Seems like we all might go back to a tribe way of life... did anyone catch the doco that ran on discovery about this very same thing? Was called "The Colony". :) As for the 2012 thing, it could just be a time when law as we know it changes, or a big shift in thought %)

1kg of LSD crystal is 10,000,000 doses. A few grams would even be too much for you and a small community to consume in the rest of your lifespan...

Seasonal psilocybe mushrooms could be dried and stored. A shroomery would be a waste of valuable food farming. Maybe farm edible, non psychoactive mushrooms?

I grew up on a farm and live to camp in the bush in my free time. I would actually find this life a lot easier going than the hustle and bustle of modern day life. I am accomplished with bow and arrow, shooting, fishing, spearing and trapping. I have grown vegetables and fruit from a young age and know how to look after livestock from feeding right through to birthing. I plan on one day being almost self sufficient on a farm so this would be a dream come true from a nightmare situation.

I have thought about this scenario to some extent and also came up with Tasmania and NZ as some of the best hiding ground on earth. Plenty of water and fertile farming land. Wood and stone available for building compounds and fires. I have camped for weeks on end in the Canadian Rockies, so I would enjoy this climate.

If I can get out before it's too late, then I believe I would flourish in the wilderness with a small crew of close friends and family.

The main problem is transport over seas in times of war. If every man is thinking for himself, I doubt I'd be able to get across the sea without maybe gunning down the crew of a trawler in Vic and making my way to NZ or Tas. Maybe I would have to stay in Vic? I have access to plenty of fuel and know the deep bush of the south west like the back of my hand. As long as I stayed away from the coast I couldn't see much problems when it came to invading forces and it should be far enough away from Melb so that any nuclear attack wouldn't have deadly effects on my hippie township.

I'm not going to fight for this country. As busty said, there are 300 million Indonesians (plus multiple other Asian countries) a stones throw away from Nth QLD and they will easily over power a resisting force. I love this country and hate it's politics. It would be great to hide out in the bush for a few years and come back to less dick heads and more people who know how to live off the land and do it tough. The way I see it, I would be fine as long as I wasn't caught up in the first wave. City folk, like the type I see trying to set up a 3 man dome tent for an hour at doofs will have no chance.

I suggest everyone at least learns basic hunting, gathering, survival, engineering, mechanics, self defense and farming as a bare minimum.

I know I'd be fine unless there was a pre-strike on a major city while I am there.

The question is, how would you go if you had to live off the land and defend yourself?

I have guns, the know how and close friends who are smart, know a trade or how to hunt/farm.

I like the thought of not having to worry much about having to be places or working for the man to pay taxes.

Making my own alcohol and drugs brings a smile to my face =D

Anyone with the right knowledge and no hard drug addiction is welcome at Psiloville'

That was quite a short reply to this topic and as any school kid would say, you started it :p

I didn't even touch on how I would generate power, lathe up cannons/make land mines or booby traps to fortify my property or my breeding program (animal and human;)).

How would you go about it headdah? Until I read your plans for this situation, I am reluctant to invite you into my compound.

The no hard drug addiction rule applies because I have had addicted friends steal from me and I don't need that shit when it comes to survival :)

Would definitely be farming poppies, high % DMT plants, weed (both hemp for rope/clothing and smoking varieties) and many other psycho actives. Need to find a stimulant plant that likes colder climates.

I could go on and on...
