"Hydrophonic" Shrooms?

The first time I tried shrooms, I bought about 1 gram of "hydrophonic" shrooms, I believe.

After eating them, I felt a strange buzz that lasted for a while. Nothing more.

The second time, I bought 3.5 grams of shrooms. I was informed that "hydrophonic" shrooms are more potent than "field" shrooms. I ate them and drank a glass of orange juice. This time, I felt even less of a buzz than the first time.

Are "hydrophonic" mushrooms just a rip-off? I paid a lot of money for those shrooms that did nothing.

They sound like they are as psychedelic as water. (Please forgive pun.) More seriously, though: apparently 'hydroponic' (not 'hydrophonic'), although it technically means 'grown in nutrient solution' as opposed to 'grown in soil', is sometimes just used to mean 'cultivated' rather than 'wild'. As far as I know, hydroponic psilocybe mushrooms exist, but should be no more nor less potent on average than non-hydroponic psilocybe mushrooms. Hence: they're not a rip off necessarily, but it sounds like you may have been ripped off, yes. Then again, ymmv, so maybe they're just relatively weak 'shrooms and you have a relatively high tolerance to them.

Have you had psiocybe mushrooms (or other tryptamine psychedelics) before? Are you able to judge whether your 'strange buzz' was like a low-dose of 'shrooms?

No, I've never had any psychadelics before.
Ah... well, a strange and disappointing buzz could be consistent with low-dose psilocybe mushrooms, but then it could also be consistent with various other things. Can you describe the feelings (and their time-course) in any more detail? Was there any visual alteration at all, or just physical sensations?

There was no mental stimulation. Just an odd physical feeling. Like, I wanted to move around and do stuff.

It wasn't a good feeling, though. It was very aggravating.
Yeah, an insufficient dose of 'shrooms can be like that, for sure. *shrugs* It's impossible to know, really, what they were. I'd say you're probably better off looking into where you're likely to find psilocybe mushrooms wild (it's pretty much the right time of year, I think, if it's autumnal where you are), and how to identify them.

Well, yeah, I'm not gonna be able to buy shrooms. My last dealer stole 75 dollars from me and stole 120 dollars from my friend. I have never had a single dealer who didn't rip me off.

I'd be afraid to just pick shrooms and eat them, though.

Sure, you have to be careful. But if you research it carefully (i.e. finding out what signs can distinguish true psilocybe shrooms from other similar looking ones - there's plenty of info out there: at a brief glance this page looks like a reasonable starting point), you should be alright.

ETA: Of course, growing your own would be another option (assuming one can still easily buy spores and growkits these days; it's been a while since I've done that sort of thing).

I wouldn't recommend that.

If one wants to hunt mushrooms, it would be best to visit Shroomery and post pictures of their finds. They have an entire forum dedicated to that and years of experience. You could get an expert answer and wouldn't have to worry about making a mistake (which is too easy with fungus).

You can't grow mushrooms hydroponicly since they are a fungus. Mushrooms grown at home on a rice patty in a will be more potent than ones of the same species that grow in the wild. Sometimes I hear other people refer to these as "hydroponic mushrooms" or " dro shrooms" because of the fact that they are potent just like lots of people call good weed hydro and dro even though it may not be grown hydroponicly.

Are you on ssris if not then it sounds like you just got some bunk mushrooms.

I really don't think you can grow mushrooms hydroponically in the literal sense. Maybe you can prepare some sort of advanced sort of soil (which has to be quite wet in pretty much every tek) but the fruitbodies will not grow in so-called liquid culture.

It is possible to grow sclerotia in liquid culture though, but not very well. I know this because they formed in my liquid culture of sclerotia-forming psilocybe spores. It looked pretty disgusting and it's really not the way to go.

The best way to grow them is to imitate their natural habitat. It doesn't work like plants.

I will have to look into that mycotopia link though because it sounds like someone did it anyway. That would be extraordinary. The well-known cultivator RogerRabbit pays some sort of reward for anyone who succeeds in what he holds as (virtually) impossible. And he is quite the expert.
I'm curious about the pictures. You can grow mycelium floating around in your liquid culture but the best thing that will grow on it would probably aborts. Though if the mycelium rises above the water fruitbodies might actually grow. But that's kind of cheating (a little).

But the main point is I can't imagine them being sold as being especially good mushrooms. I think if you succeed in growing them on liquid nutrient basis they will be normal or not very good. It sounds like someone told you a bullshit story, sorry.

^this. shrooms cannot be grown "hydroponically" as the term is used for plants grown in a soil-free medium. anyone who claims their mushrooms are "hydro" is either completely retarded (stay away) or is trying to rip you off (stay very far away)

From what I've heard the people are just trying to say they're grown indoors and are probably just retarded...

There isn't really much of a difference between indoor and outdoor shrooms, outdoor ones are usually thicker and what not, but by weight they should both be pretty much the same. Getting charged more for them is absolutely a rip off though...
