Ok heres the deal. I IV opiates the only pills I eat are ibuprofen and xanax bars. I do smoke. I have never had any problems breathing or anything I am in near as perfect health as a person like me could be. Well I went on a bender for a few days doing a bar or two a day and shooting 15-18 30's. I don't remember a lot but one night as I was with a girl in the bathroom doing a shot I started to nod a bit sometimes drool happens with that, only this time blood started coming out and then I started spitting nothing but blood and coughing it up. Anyone have any ideas its been about 4 days and nothing else happened I went to the hospital for a foot injury and told them and they just brushed it off and worked on my foot. Any thoughts?

Ibuprofen can cause internal bleeding - all of the NSAIDS can. It's also possible that you coughed up swallowed blood from bleeding sinuses.

It might be a one-off thing, but I'd probably lay off the NSAIDS for a while - mind you other analgesics have their own risks if used to excess, especially APAP.

Sounds like the Ibuprofen, thanks. I know it wasn't swallowed blood because I wasn't just coughing it up, it started just leaking out, still have the stains on my clothes then I was spitting it up. But thanks it makes sense.

Eat some foods which are rich in vitamin K - most of the green leafy vegetables are - they'll help your blood clotting return to normal. Vitamin K is actually the antidote to overdoses of blood thinners like warfarin, but I wouldn't take a supplement in your case because you can get toxicity with some of the synthetic forms and it sounds like your bleeding was relatively minor.

Primary lung disease, such a viral, fungal, or bacterial pneumonia. Anything less than aseptic technique when you administer heroin IV is a great way to introduce blood-borne pathogens. Are you a smoker (yep, found it in you post), then you must consider neoplasia or cancer. And there's always asthma.

Also, you could have clotting abnormality from NSAID use--they can inhibit platelet function, but not as much as aspirin, and APAP is not really known as a platelet inhibitor. It can cause liver disease and blotting abnormalities these are typically noted with end-stage or very significant disease liver.

My advice would be to seek the services of a physcian right away. Be honest about your drug use, smokng, etc. Your doctor will do blood work, and recommend either chest x-rays or a CT scan.

Take this seriously, because I doubt it's the NSAID.

The thing that gets me is that like I said I wasn't really coughing it up. At first it just started coming up like saliva. Started dripping out my mouth than I spit a bunch up for a few minutes than it cleared up and hasn't happened since.

And I was at the ER the other day for cellulitus and it was either the same day or the next and I said something and they just brushed it off like it was nothing.

^^ u take good care of ur mouth/teeth/gum? cuz if its internal hemorrhage - i mean if it comes from ur upper respiratory system or from ur stomach ud notice that.

id still go see a doc if i were u, just in case since u were on painkillers u mite not notice it

Gingival bleeding, nosebleeds, small cuts and lacerations that take an exagerated time to clot typically indicate a problem with primary hemostasis, which usually means platelets.

I would still have this checked out and not at the ER.

I dont know ur smoking habits but if you smoke clove cigarettes/cigars instead of regular cigars/cigarettes you are far more likely to cough up blood.

I do take care of my teeth floss. Its nothing that I nor can anyone see anything without tools so ya I guess its back to the doctor. thanks guys.

I hope your using a micron filter.

Oh and no, I use cigarette filters. Cotton and Q-tips, are bad, I know the filters aren't great either but you won't get cotton fever. But it works for me, I am a junkie and rarely can even afford new works. So I know yea its bad but trust me not the worst I have done to mybody.
