Klute began as the drummer, vocalist and songwriter in the English Hardcore band The Stupids and first turned to electronic production in the early 1990s, experimenting with techno before turning to Drum and Bass. He released two 12" under the Override alias in 1995-96, as well as appearing on Ninja Tune compilations. In 1998 the debut Klute LP Casual Bodies was released on the seminal Certificate 18 imprint; Fear of People followed in 2000. In 2001 he established the label Commercial Suicide.Then released his own material, including the albums Lie, Cheat & Steal (2003) No One's Listening Anymore (2005) The Emperor's New Clothes (2007) and most recently Music for Prophet (2010) All of these albums are double CDs with one drum and bass CD and another of downtempo techno and breakbeat, and received widespread acclaim in the electronic music community. The track "Time 4 Change" from No One's Listening Anymore was the last tune played on-air by John Peel. The label has also released tracks from artists like Amit, Break, Digital, Spirit, Calibre, Hive, SKC and Chris.SU, establishing itself as one of the bigger players in drum and bass Klute's style of drum & bass is strongly influenced by techno. It is deep and progressive with flavours of house,dub and trance, and frequent use of vocals. Although Klute is one of the most melodic and musical producers in drum and bass, his tracks are still typically intended for the DJ and dancefloor. As well as releasing music on his own label, Klute has releases on Hospital Records, Shogun, 31 Records, Soul:R, Metalheadz, Timeless, Violence, and Breakbeat Science Recordings.

Nice showcase of Klute's ability to lay down flawless mixes despite shenanigans.

I will hide behind the fact that everyone already knows I'm a cunty bitch when I say that if you're not going to shell out a little extra for a decent fucking sound system & gear, there is NO POINT whatsoever in bringing an artist of this caliber out at all. Seeing the visible anger/frustration on Klute's face was honestly embarrassing. I know the Juxtapoze crew has the ability & desire to do a lot better, which is why I find myself getting angrier the more I think about this.

As far as being "a bit disappointing..... good tracks not so good mixing or flow of set"... why should Klute give a fuck about even trying to impress after landing in the mess that happened last night?! In my opinion, it was his right to say 'fuck you' after being fucked - hence every red light on that mixer staying lit from start to finish (he walked into a giant redline to be completely fair).

With that said, I would fully expect as harsh a criticism (if not more so) had a show that I put on displayed this many problems. Sometimes shit goes wrong, but it shouldn't this many times/ways in one night. I wish last night went differently.

Perpetual should have been hired for last night. Back room recordings will be posted as soon as I get my recorder back. I wish I had recorded my set in the front room. I spent most of the night in the back, as the sound in the front turned to utter, unlistenable shit after I played. So disappointing.

George killed it in the back once everything got set up. The recording will prove George has much more talent than people ever gave him credit for. Dude's been away from everything for a bit and was still as flawless as you can get.

on a different note...

I've been a Juxtapoze apologist for quite some time because Tuesday nights at the Mel are spiritual to me. My first real encounters with Indianapolis DnB were near the end of the Broke(n) Tuesday saga, right before Konkrete Jungle took over. I've fought so hard to keep the support up for a night that hasn't always delivered on the goods because every once in a while, the stars align and everything just works.

Unfortunately, the past few months have been pretty embarrassing for Tuesday nights. People don't show up anymore because the quality has not met the increased $4 cover charge. There are plenty of cheaper, better put together options in Indy, which has made Tuesday nights @ The Mel insignificant for the first time in years. Gary ran this night into the ground and it eventually was saved by a group of people who I assumed had a plan to turn things around...and they did, for a little while. Supporters of the night (myself included) were often asked to donate/help out for the love of the scene with no expectation of getting compensated for their generosity because we hoped that that capital was going somewhere important. It obviously isn't anymore.

I agree with the sentiment that if you're bringing a big name like Klute out, you NEED to make sure everything is sorted out before the show. When I showed up early to bring my equipment in for the back room, I could already sense the panic setting in as speakers were strewn all over the floor, unplugged and phone calls were being made to hunt down proper equipment. BIG thanks need to go out to Wes Clay for making the best of what sound was available in the front room, along with the added EV speakers he brought.

On the flipside, I do understand there were some unforeseen problems this week that could not (maybe they could?) be prevented and many of the plans that were made had to be redone. I do understand that much of last night was done last minute because there was no other choice, but to have the equipment fail DURING Klute's set (were those CDJs tested before they were used?) with no backup plan is really embarrassing to those of us who want to make Indianapolis a place where DJs want to play, instead of just a pass-through on an already planned out US tour. Klute was a very good sport when presented with the CD player indymojo was using in the back room and made the very best with what he had. Unfortunately half of the crowd who waited until almost 1am for the headliner to play left due to it being too late or having work in the morning. The whole endeavor was one big flop.

Like I said, I've been supporting this night for years now, good or bad, and have always offered my help to keep things on track, but last night was a real head-scratcher to me. The only physical fliers I ever saw for this show were the ones Indymojo printed with their own money. The Juxtapoze fliers didn't make it to any of the events I was at, nor was I given anything to help promote. At this point, I think many people have given up on Juxtapoze and frankly, it's not hard to see why. :(

ty...didn't get to do what i had planned so i crammed 120 mins of stuff into 90. didn't really work from what i could hear but i'm glad someone liked it :) one thing is that i realized that my night-vision is HORRIBLE so i cannot see much on the HI/LO/MID/GAIN side of things; caught a laser beam in my eye and i felt like i was at a B.O.C. concert (cool)...and i'm also still confused by the fact that a lot of dj's never use the fader curve. weird :|

since we're on the topic of recorded sets from your's truly, is there any possible way you can post the set from tronic i played back on feb 4th? i know dom records them all...just wondered if that was still on a hard drive somewhere?
