We all read regularly the dangers of injecting pharmaceutical tablets, capsules, gelcaps, be they oral, buccal, sublingual, etc.

Certain inactive binders/fillers are prone to creating specific health problems when administered through IV. It might be a benefit to list the exact medical problems that are likely to occur when injecting specific pills. A list of common brand/generic medications and their ingredients, with the effect of each inactive next to it in chart/list form. Anyone think this could be a beneficial resource for promoting harm reduction? Or just a plain list of common pharmaceutical pill inactives with side effects/health hazards listed next to each?

examples without side effects listed:

-Oxycodone

-Polyethylene glycol 400
-Povidone
-Sodium hydroxide
-Sorbic acid
-Stearyl alcohol
-Talc
-Titanium Dioxide
-Triacetin
-Polysorbate 80
-Yellow Iron Oxide

Anyone think this is a worthwhile endeavour?

Makes me kind of wonder why the put all those heavy metals and talc in their when they could just put something harmless like flour, millet, or minerals.

It could be a similar situation as the Chinese and the Melamine problem, or the way we used Flouride in drinking water,or a kind of Industrial Complex.

Or as a means of abuse prevention by making the side effects and consequences of injecting pills terrible.

-Starch (corn starch, potato starch, wheat starch): starch is said to make your hands/arms/legs/feet/(wherever you shoot) swell on the long term.
That's why usually long-term pill addicts who shoot IV have BIG swollen hands...

-I think lactose is quite safe to shoot.

It's gonna be very hard to find the side effects of intravenous use of common binders/fillers. You can find infos on some of them, chemical data usually, solubility, stuff like that, but nothing more...

For most pills, there is a list of like 10 binders. Usually it's only 1 or 2 of them in huge quantities, and the others in very small quantities.

-Yellow Iron Oxide
[...]
-Titanium Dioxide
[...]
-FD&C Blue #2
[...]
-Yellow Iron Oxide

These are coloring agents, they should be in the coating only, so you shouldn't worry about them...

Here is a list from a harm reduction website.

Methadone syrup was never designed for injection. Each millilitre contains 5 mg of methadone hydrochloride, sodium benzoate, ethanol, sorbitol solution, glycerol, caramel and finally, flavour pharmaceutical 503.978/A. These can have the following effects when injected:

Methadone hydrochloride: respiratory depression
Sodium benzoate: Hypersensitivity and allergic reactions. Respiratory reactions have occurred in people susceptible to aspirin-induced asthma.
Ethanol: Central nervous system depression, which can lead to stopping breathing and coma
Sorbitol solution: effects can be similar to a ‘dirty hit’: facial flushing, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and sweating. High levels may lead to kidney failure or kidney stones.
Glycerol, caramel and flavour pharmaceutical 503.978/A:
effects unknown.

I included some of the info in that article in my other related post in OD, about "Dirty Hits/Dirty Rushes"

The article mentioned above concerns the Methadone concentrated solution used in Austrailia for MMT. American clinics use Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals' Methadose brand Methadone syrup, which, according to the company issued package insert, contains:

Other ingredients of Methadose Oral Concentrate: Artificial cherry flavor, citric acid anhydrous
USP, FD&C Red No 40, D&C Red No 33, methylparaben NF, polaxamer 407 NF, propylene
glycol USP, propylparaben NF, purified water USP, sodium citrate dihydrate USP, sucrose NF.

This is the lovely red cherry syrup we gulp down everyday. They also produce a dye and sugar free version, which is clear and only contains:

Other ingredients of Methadose Sugar-Free Oral Concentrate: Citric acid anhydrous USP, purified water
USP, sodium benzoate NF.

Also, many pills contain Talc, which is related to a specific condition called Talc Pneumoconiosis (Talcosis).

Talcs are fibrous silicates used in a number of industries and in cosmetic talc.

Inhalation of talc results in foreign body granulomas throughout the lung and in interstitial pulmonary fibrosis. (Foreign body granuloma of skin )

Platelike crystals are readily identifiable in the granulomas.

A related lesion is found in drug abusers who use talc as the carrier material for drugs injected intravenously.

The methadone i get is clear, and i asked the person at the clinic what brand it was, and she said it was methadose. Does this mean it is the sugar free oral concentration? and if so, it is safe to shoot?

This thread kinda makes me want to stop taking anything, including plain ol' alieve. Sounds like they are formulated to cause cancer so you can spend more money at the doc. Oh well, I guess just about everything causes cancer these days :(

I know some people may disagree but I know for a fact, for my physiology that is, that Name brand adderall is sooo much better than generic. I used to take generic and quit for about 2 years, did not take a single adderall, and recently I was offered some name brand adderall. I hesitated, but after looking on BL at the different opinions, I took it and WOW. Generic gave me all of the bad side effects which is why I quit taking it, swore it off is more like it. But this name brand, for me, is completely different. No headache, no upset stomach, and the come down is almost non existent. I really could not believe the difference, until I looked up what generic manufacturers can do vs. name brand manufacturers. It has to be the binder and fillers making the difference, not to mention the quality of the active ingredients.

Wow. Sounds like you were dealing with a moron. She should not be working there as she does not even know the answer to a simple question. Rather than say i don't know she goes and gives you the wrong information. Methadose do not make methadone or any other meds. Methadose is a system for dispensing methadone. Its a little more advanced than using a plastic syringe. I'm not sure where you are but in Australia the only additive (almost) free methadone is Biodone, it has only Methadone HCL purified water and red food colouring.

Lol Magnesium helps reduce opiate tolerance I believe. It is listed as "inactive".

The amount present in pills is so small, and in a salt form that is very poorly-absorbed, it really IS inactive.

And btw anything involving "stearyl" or "stearic" can be considered wax.

a lot of people (including myself) are allergic to flour (look up celiac disease)

I know my bad for not specifying
gluten is found in wheat, rye, and barley flours.
all other flours are fine for celiacs to ingest

i just assumed tsukasa was referring to wheat flour since it is the generally the most common flour used in western cooking.

^ I don't think such a specification was needed - the only reason they'd want to use any flour at all would be the gluten itself, as gluten is basically a natural glue (hence, "binders").

i found out i'm very allergic some of the inactives in generic vicoprofen and brand named 15mg oxycontin.

are there any pain medications out there i can take that have almost NO allergens? I have lyme disease which causes me to have a lot of chemical sensitivities so the less ingredients the better. any particular medication I could mention to my doctor? We've already tried oxycontin, vicoprofen, and percocet.... he's the most open-minded doctor i've ever seen; so I'd appreciate ANYTHING at all.

i would even be willing to have something made up at a compounding pharamacy if that is what requires me to live pain free without debilitating allergies.

i've asked this question all over the web and i can't get a good answer.
