Middletown, Ind. —
A mother of two is dead after using a synthetic-marijuana laced incense known as "Spice."
Now her friends and family want the drug outlawed since more and more people appear to be dying from it.

"Yesterday I lost one of the most important people in my life," says Heather Hogan, blinking back tears, still trying to make sense of a life taken so suddenly.

28-year-old Lilly Helsley of Middletown died after smoking the drug designed to mimic the effects of marijuana. Hogan's 16-year-old son says this drug is legal and not hard to find.

It doesn't mention what the actual cause of death was, so it's quite possible that she died due to bad health and the Spice just added to what was wrong.
I cannot see a Cannabinoid, synthetic or not, causing someone to died without there being something wrong physically with the person in the first place.

Heart / Circulatory problem perhaps?

And since it's not regulated by the Federal Drug Administration, the drug is to blame for a growing number of hospital visits.

Do they want it banned or regulated?

Seeing that most of these people wouldnt be using unstudied mystery drugs if marijuana was legal, the most effective way to combat these new cannabinoids would be to legalize marijuana which has a long, documented history of human use and is pretty benign physically and mentally.

Or they could just ban it, seems to have worked for marijuana. 8)

there has been talk lately about banning K2/spice here in indiana, and it's about to finally go through

I watched my friend overdose on JWH-018 and nearly die. If I didn't roll him over while he was laying on his back convulsing and puking in his own mouth and throat, he probably would have asphyxiated.

^marijuana's side effect profile is much more benign. there are physical and far more mental negative reports from JWH. marijuana has been used for thousands of years and been well studied, while JWH is a mystery and apparently may have napthalene radicals and other carcinogenic worries

it also feels harsh as hell on my throat

if both were legal, yes some would experiment with RC-weed, maybe many. but i'm pretty sure we'd keep cannabis as our drug of choice and use of JWH would be even less than it is now (if green is next to K2 at the gas station, it'd be sort of ridiculous to buy the K2 unless you're looking for something like incomplete cross tolerance or a short buzz... even then, just smoking more weed instead would be economical (if legal) and less harmful most likely. and people feel that it's less harmful. JWH feels "dirty" to many of the people who try it for more than several uses)

I still prefer the JWH-018 high that of natural cannabis. I recently found it to reduce my heavy tolerance to hash and kief as well, after not using it for months but building tolerance to cannabis.

I've been playing with smoking blends for about two weeks now. Not local blends since it's illegal in my state but I've got a friend in Florida who'll ship to me at cost.

Anyways, I obviously don't know which, if any, JWH these contain, but the effects are similar to trip reports I've read.

Getting to the point it seems to induce some "chest anxiety" in me. I get this "anxious" feeling near my heart. Not pain or pressure, just a "feeling."

I'm only doing this, because like many others, I'm about to get DT for a job.

Has the medically determined cause of death been announced yet? I've never heard of this before, I could see problems with pure JWH-018 but not in a blend such as spice.

I completely agree, Ive chosen doing other harder drugs over marijuana for one of many reasons, the most important being its easily detected smell (harder to mask and hide) and much easier to get busted for, these new "spice blends" out there are just not as safe, I havent smoked them but Ive smoked JWH-018 in its chemical form, i had tremors and I felt the normal paranoia of marijuana 10 fold. I cant pinpoint my exact fears, it was just an overwhelming sensation of fear coupled with leg tremors and facial twitching. Had I smoked any more I could have seizured, the reports Ive heard about on it are of people seizuring and writhing on the floor and puking. I think ill stick to bud versus other synthetic cannabinoids

I have heard of seizures happening before on K2. That kind of scares me, but not to the point where I won't take it.
It would be a lot more helpful if they actually waited until the autopsy report before they reported their findings. Then again that wouldn't be sensational.

They want to scare you...

The soooner you learn this, the sooner you can cancel out mis-information.

Widespread instant deaths would be a sign to be afraid. One juiced up 6 o'clock story is not.

I know of two users experiencing seizures after smoking pure JWH-018, so it isn't media mis-information. JWH-018 causes seizures in some people, period.
