FRANKIE VEGA
Communique, Kompute Music :: Chicago, IL // TECHNO http://frankievega.blogspot.com/

Modern Electronics Enthusiast..... Long standing Chicago DJ, Producer,Party Promoter, Record Label A&R and part of Chicago's leading Apple Specialist team: MacSpecialst.

In Chicago Frankie Vega is most known for joining friends in pushing
the limits of excitement of nightlife tradition. Thrill seekers out
for a night on the town wont have to look hard to find Mr Vega behind the decks turning levels up or come to the realize they're standing on the underground of an event he and friends are hosting!

His event production days began in the early 90's and were born in the basement of Chicago's legendary Trax records warehouse. This sparked a series of wild nights that rocked through the 90's from inside of warehouses, lofts, roller rinks, biker bars, expo centers and other various venues. After a 5 year hiatus Frankie and sharing friends aimed high to further electronic music influence within Chicago's techno scene through producing the sound reinforced & technically aggressive "In Your System" parties.

His connection to dance music began age 15 through his first job at
Chicago based record shop Hot Jams. From then to present, Frankie can safely say he has personally sold over a million vinyl records. Mr
Vega worked his way into becoming one of America's most known record pushing sales man. Starting out at Chicago based UC Music, he connected with hundreds of record shops in the states and launched record label Bluleine Records. The Blueline label served as a launch pad for productions by a long list of great techno artists. Blueline put forth first releases by Tim Xavier and vast selling tracks from working folks like Frankie Bones, Woody Mcbride, Glenn Wilson, Dietrich Schoenamann and many others... Vega kept the record push going through the the first half of the Y2K decade from the Chicago Distribution outlet known as Sole. As the digital era has took the lead on music sales, his salesmanship and passion for being an asset to creative professionals is now channeled through his position as apart of Chicago's leading Apple Specialist team MacSpecaiist.

At show time Vega combines the modern edge of lap top use with rooted dj technique - still utilizing turntables to aim, please and work dance floors into a sweaty mess! His works to score big as a crowd favorite with multi style dj sets, blending tracks ranging from
Chicago House, minimal, deep techno to acid tracks while offering up
handshakes, hugs and smiles. Spare time is spent working up tunes in the studio - offered through his imprints and Tora Tora Tora,
Communique, Addon, Kompute Musik and more...

MISS SYLVIA
NORDj's, Sound Bar :: Chicago, IL // Tech House
http://nordjs.com/

Born in Poland, M. Sylvia moved to Chicago at the age of 10, marking the start of her passion for electronic dance music. Influenced by artists like Prodigy, DJ Dido, and almost anything on Germany’s VIVA in 1995, she began dj’ing at 20 years old. After buying her own decks less than a year later, things took off - she joined the boys of NORdjs in 2006, and life was never the same.

Today, her resume boasts some of Chicago’s most established venues and nightlife events - the girl’s strong talent and passion for music cannot be denied. Her approachable attitude, precise mixing, and creative programming garnered attention from the well-seasoned industry crowd, as well as a diverse mix of clubgoers and socialites. With an international background and artistic approach, Sylvia’s set easily adjusts to any crowd and environment, while remaining loyal to quality house and techno. Her style is distinctive amongst Chicago DJ’s, yet retains a poise and sophistication signature to the birthplace of house music.

Three years into her career, M. Sylvia already warmed up dance floors for a myriad of talent, including Satoshi Tomiie, John Creamer & Stephane K, Jody Wisternoff (Way Out West), Chris Fortier, DJ Three, BT, Granite & Phunk, and Diana D’Rouze. Resident to Chicago’s world-recognized venue, Sound-Bar, she was also chosen to mix Vision Nightclub’s “The Seasonal: Spring 2008” CD release dedicated to tech house and minimal. In a company of four, M. Sylvia is the only woman of NORdjs, an unexampled Chicago-based DJ collective. However, Sylvia is renowned not just as a female DJ in a male-dominated industry, but as a strong and inimitable talent in music. The dawn of her hand at production approaches sunrise, and who knows what the future will bring.

DJ SOLO
Fresh Kid / Dented Sessions / Chicago, IL
Dubstep

DJ SOLO is a Chicago based dj/producer/emcee, multi-media artist, and mad scientist! Currently making big waves in the dubstep and bass music scene, SOLO continually raises the bar with turntablism and trick mixing techniques, high energy live performances, original bootlegs and remixes, and has recently returned as an emcee, rapping over dubstep and drum n bass beats.

As a rapper since the age of 7, and a musician/producer since the age of 13, SOLO has gone from of making bedroom boombox recordings, to producing original music for acts such as GZA, B-Real, Maroon 5, Matt & Kim, and Planet Asia, touring the world as an opening dj for DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill, Everlast from House of Pain, and GZA & Killah Priest from Wu-Tang Clan, and releasing an ongoing series of themed and eclectic mixtapes.

Relocating to Los Angeles from Chicago in 2003, DJ SOLO became part of the LA based artist crew, Soul Assassins (Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Mr. Cartoon, Estevan Oriol). Along with touring, DJing, and producing music for their roster of artists, he was also the head graphic designer, helping the company launch a new look in print and on the web, as well as creating original graphics for their t-shirt line, hats, cd covers, and collaborative pieces with brands such as Diamond Supply, Circa, and La Coka Nostra. While there, he hosted a weekly two-hour live internet TV show called “40s & Blunts” that broadcast every week from DJ Muggs’ studio, featuring live mixes of brand new music, with guest rappers and DJs ranging from local talent to LA legends.

During his time in LA, SOLO was turned on to the emerging genre of dubstep coming mainly from the UK and select pockets of the US. Noticing quickly that this genre would allow him to express the full range of his musical palette and eclectic tastes, he shifted gears away from hip-hop and into bass music. In a short amount of time, he had adapted his hip-hop/party rocking style of djing to dubstep and electronic music, and continues to explore and create within those genres. Since returning to Chicago in late 2009, he has released several dubstep mixes, original productions and remixes, performs all over Chicago and the Midwest, helped create and launch the Chicago Bass Culture crew “Fresh Kid”, featured regularly on dubstep.fm radio’s “The Dented Sessions” as well as their monthly bass music night, and continues to bring you the finest quality music, videos, and no-holds-barred dj sets!!

as a dedicated dancer and proponent of edm, all i ask is this:
please turn off those orange accent lights at the top of the venue.
...at least for this event...let us feel the full effect of those lasers..
..if they need them over the bar, is there a way to do that ?
...just an idea..at least that's what i keep thinking while I'm gettin
down..
see you all there! ......exciting!

no...........

close your eyes?

um......no...... If they wanna have it like that for their 'no-cover' night whatever but the second I start shellin out anything over $ 4.00 to go to a bar.....
it would be nice if it seemed a little more of a dive.
& that is hard with all the lights.
It is just an obvious, advantageous and traditional aspect of optimum dancing - conditions

I'm in the darker = better camp, except for in the DJ booth, but I thought everything looked great tonight, even with those orange lights. The sound was excellent too. However, I've said this before and I'll probably say it again, watching a DJ constantly solid-clipping red on the mixer makes me want to smack them and ask what the hell is wrong with them. Especially when they've been doing this for as long or longer than me. Moreso when there's an independent booth and master level adjustment which allows for keeping things plenty loud without clipping.

I loved the future-garage stuff Submorphics opened with. I actually would have preferred a whole set of that, since Shiva's the only one I know of around here who plays it, aside from vettJD up in Ft. Wayne. If anyone else is feelin' that vibe, I highly recommend checking out Scuba's Substance mix that came out earlier this year.

I recorded all of the mixes in the downstairs room tonight. I'll get them uploaded as soon as I get my recorder back.

I went. I paid. I pondered. Sound System 2nd. floor good, yet, improperly EQed or.....DJtampered........I run the risk of causing a big stink w/ any further analyzation..........so......3quick things:
- Thank you to all who put time, energy and $ into providing us w/ EDM, that is awesome.- Crowd was primarily Nondancing, Drinkholding, Letsmakefunofourselvesmockingdancemoves - BROski and HOs ( not that they are not valid party-goers, it just makes it a little less interesting)
- I undoubtedly had a BETTER TIME ON WED. NIGHT AND PAID 0.00 TO DO SO.
*setting the promotion and crowd aside here‘s what would have made sense:*
$3 downstairs all night.
$5 upstairs till 12am & $10 after...................................
....................................................i only suggest this after seeing the sad scene of the TRU door practically begging passers-by to come in........dropping their prices as the night went on.....why let it get to that ?

channel gains got turned down as ms sylvia went on & then i fixed them. actually, although it was way too quiet, i really respect her for not cranking the main mix up; she didn't want to redline. yay for DJ's who give a shit about the equipment they're playing on!

Amen to that! I've had DJs blow components in my speakers even after adding a compressor/gate into my setup to prevent it from happening. Having to shell out money to fix speakers due to someone else's carelessness is no fun.

Some of that comes with doing an event in Broad Ripple, where the "mainstream crowd" has no idea of the value of the DJ's who are playing that they've never heard of. Throw a $7 cover at them and they dismiss it as ridiculous for a club that has a spotty attendance record at best most of the time. Especially when they can get into most of the douche bag meat-market bars for less, and can see that it's packed from the outside.

Sometimes you gotta meet them halfway and give them a discount, just to get some extra bodies in there.

I actually thought it sounded great. Some of the best sound that building has seen...err...heard.

I didn't think it was too quiet either. Call it "old age", but I liked being able to hear people speaking at the bar and leaving with my voice intact. =D

Seemed just right to me, but everyone hears differently I suppose. Deaf ass DJ's crankin the volume! :p =D

I began typing a response but then decided not to bother.
