OK so I am testing drugs on the these little critters to see if they interfere with meiotic recombination.

After gassing & tubing them a few didn't wake up and one escaped so in desperation I put in a whole bunch of either sex at random in the testtube to look at in a weeks time.

Now my question is: can I tell the difference between a 7 day year old offspring and their fully grown parents?? Since I don't know how many adults are there, is it still possible to differentiate them from the kids?

If not then I've screwed up and have to book the lab to do it again.

For a minute there I thought you were saying your flies were having sex at random from the drugs you gave them and I was kinda wondering: what drug? :D never mind then..

Regarding the age, if they are staying out late drinking, sneak around with girlfriends and lie about smoking they are probably not mature yet. Other than that, sorry cant be of any help.

This isn't drugs-forum. You don't have to use animals to encode your question.

No, you cant'. Check the life-cycle of Drosophila at Wiki: HERE.

This is probably the wrong forum for such questions...
