gold, red & brown weed

So after reading up on some of the links on a thread about weed in the past and i was wondering why we no longer see golden or red weed. i understand the reasons why it was so common back then for example if i'm someone who does't fully understand the intricacies and nuances to know the perfect time for harvesting the buds and its alot easier to tell when a whole field was done growing.
Then names with like panama red and Colombian gold becoming stoner household names it was also easier to pass off your random quality weed at a higher price then it would normally get.
anyway what i was wondering a few questions overall
how does letting your plant grow like that affect the bud? is the smoking and high still enjoyable and was it because it was done like that in places where hashish production was large as letting your plants change colors is common place in Lebanon morocco Afghanistan, Nepal and other places as it is common in weed that is grown for hashish making
was it just different growing styles people used because they were just accustomed to it because it is the same in tobacco growing which is another smokable plant
i'm also interested in green weed around these times in the 70s came by there was still stuff like Maui wowie and it was green from what i understand. So what were the differences in the quality of green versus autumn coloured plants
 
There's herb like this around but it's schwag or mids. The schwag I smoked in my youth was golden sort of like hay or like certain types of white tea are.
 
dude how high were you when you posted this? i can barely understand it. maui wowie is still around dude..and so is all that other bud you talk about. its called mids, schwag, shit, hay, and some OD.

the market changes with time. its become alot more competitive so growers have to step it up. pretty sure there is an increasing number of growers. stoners have become harder to please as well. most want the best for the lowest price. u kno.. that supply&demand shit they talked about in skool?
 
the idea that brown, gold & red bud is to do with quality or general types (ie mids regs and other stupid terms - no offence to you)

read the threads and you'll see the gold & red colour of the buds the OP described is to do with environment & terroir.
(in the case of the gold buds ie colombian gold, being that the growers would
strip away parts of the stem during the end
of flowering to limit water uptake by the buds, thus making them turn golden)

brown is often indicative of improper storage techniques, and the bud "sweating" in its own oils however. not always though.

i have had some mean looking thai stick (dark green/brown) that smelled earthy & musky beyond belief
but put me on my ass and made me incredibly high (it was sativa) better than most of the "proper" bud ive had.

so the way it looks is not always due to its "quality" or "class" (ie regs & mids).

real landrace strains are an almost mystical thing now,
as its mainly all about the crazy hybrids and resin production.
you will find the people who actively go out of their way to grow these classics are
often doing it for their own personal smoke, and are true lovers & connoisseurs of cannabis.
the terpene & cannabinoid mix in these strains is supposed to be more varied than most strains nowadays which seem to be all about thc.
dont quote me on that last part though as it is mostly just alleged to be more varied.
 
ok so maybe i was pretty blazed myself, but i still dont think i was completely wrong since you even said so yourself that growers have adapted to meet the needs of a changing market. brown, gold and red leaves can just as well indicate shitty weed as well as the OD land races that you talk about. colors can indicate a number of things.
 
yes, i never meant you were WRONG per se, just that the regs thing wasnt the only reason.

the OP seemed to be talking about "back in the day" buds like Panama Red etc.
either way you gotta admit those 2 threads i linked are an amazing read eh?
i found them last year in the archives.
dunno if you ever visit the archives of each forum (CD, PD etc) but they are full of brilliantly written threads like that.
that Jspun dude sure is good for entertaining a blazed mind ;)
 
i'm not asking if it's still around or anything i'm asking about why people would purposely sell them as such such as in the situation sega420 described with the Colombian growers
and if it was common enough that people preffered red to gold weed or green to brown and etc and when did such harvesting ways change?

they pretty much explain the info you are looking for.

also they are both GREAT reads. classics from Cannabis Discussion days past..
(and no, i am not Jspun trying to "big myself up", i just think they are great)

and it isnt harvesting ways, its growing & environment.
read the links, man, you'll understand more than you would even imagine would be the case with cannabis.

they are real eye openers to the way the plant works etc.
 
I had some thai stick awhile back though it wasnt what i was used to it was a nice changeup from the usual.

it doesnt even look like normal weed its mainly stems and little pieces of bud that is brown but it has an amazing high.

not to sound like a arrogant ass but i understand a great deal about cannabis and i was just wondering why the time of harvesting changed so much as i've recently heard farmers in countries that export cannabis wait until the plant was very dry and produced one last rush of resin and i was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to whether or not thats true
 
this aint aaaalways true, but generally in countries that export the weather is so dry and arid that by the time of harvest,
the bud is dry enough to rip apart with your hands.
i do not know if this affects resin production, as it was to my knowledge that UV light aka sun affects this.
the more UV light, the more thc laden resin the plant pushes out to protect itself.

I have seen herb that was white and red.

Some dreaded up trustafarian at a Bob Dylan show I saw more than a decade ago had some red and white herb for sale but I did not get to sample any and I didn't get any from him though since I did not have cash. :(

ya man i definitely a good read. im fairly young myself(almost 21 XD) but i'll smoke with a couple old fuckers, and they always talk about that exact type of shit. this 40 sumthing year old guy rants non-stop about thai stick and other bud "back in the day". kinda thought he was exaggerating or bsin but apparently i still have alot to learn :D
 
ya i forgot to mention i got some vibrant yellow chronic like 2 years ago and that shit was awsome.
 
Occasionally I'll come across some good corn, an itll be hardcore yellow, almost like the color of corn. haha It never was too bad of stuff though, but just some mids I'd say.
