My husband has restless leg synrdome..

whats it matter whats legal? he has a problem - that helps, legality is not the issue. Rls sucks I never had it before I WD from tramadol but it was easily the most annoying symptom of it, not the most painful, but definitely the most annoying. Hope he feels better

I have RLS from taking Abilify (a side effect my dr failed to mention!). Anyway, the only drug right now for RLS is Requip (Ropinirole). Sometimes, like me, they'll script you a paiin med to go with the Requip. They start you pretty low (.25 mg) and raise it once a week till you're at 1 mg so you don't get so tired. I'm up to 2 mg now twice a day and it does help. I still have pain and movement but I can sleep now and it doesn't "kill" me if I have to sit for a long period of time anymore. I believe it comes in up to 5 mg pills. GL!

The combination of Clonazepam and Lyrica would be very helpful in his case if he is looking for immediate relief. The only problems with this combination is that tolerance to benzodiazepines eventually increase. Lyrica tolerance can jump but over a much longer period of time but the dose can always be safely increased.

From what I've read though, it sounds as if he justs wants an addictive drug for a quick fix. I read a lot of excuses, like he won't take anticonvulsants or anything else but a benzo or opiate. These days its more than likely he will be offered something like Requip or Mirapex, as thats first line treatment. I'm not one to talk though because my dose of Clonazepam & Lyrica was just upped to treat my RLS. My legs still kick but it doesn't hurt anymore.

You don't have any physical pain in your legs? Do you take any opiates? I would hate to give up my oxy's but if I could go without pain in my legs I might just ask my dr about this combo...

It's not that he wants addictive drugs.. he just wont take weird drugs or new drugs.. like anti depressants ect ect.. half the time he wont take an aspirin for a headache.. he is a strange breed. He prefers a drug to be on the market for atleast 15 years before he even takes it. He doesn't get high often.. it's not about that.. when he does he only uses oxy. He just knows benzos make it go away and he knows there isnt a 1 800 my bad number for benzos... he is afraid of fucked up side effects.. lol partly due to a bad reaction he had to high blood pressure medication he did not need and a fucked up dr that scripted it to him.. He took half the pill because he felt at 22 he was too young to be on high blood pressure medication.. he wound up in the ER near dead and the dr told him if he had taken the entire thing he would have died. The does this crazy bitch put him on was a dose for someone who has already had a heart attack and was about to have another.. so yea he is afraid of doctors(he has white coat syndrome).. His blood pressure shoots through the roof even at routine checkups.

He knows drugs like valium and oxycodone have been around for a long time.. and he partakes in the use of oxycodone for recreation from time to time so it wont freak him out. He also has untreated panic disorder.. lol He is a little scared of lyrica because he is trying to lose weight, and when I was scripted it I was put off by the weight gain side effect. Also because of how the weird nurse practitioner pushed it on me so hard. This was the lady who had to google medications to make sure they didnt have negative interactions with medication I was already taking.

He also only wants medication to take before bed and only before bed that does not have ongoing effects through the day. He literally hates drs and believes they are trying to kill them due to a number of times he has almost died due to a dr's negligence. He was sent home from the ER with a ruptured appendix by some orderly not a nurse or a dr... this orderly was a friend of his mothers.. and laid around in it for a few days he had a 10% chance of living. They pushed down on his stomach and because of his high pain threshhold he didn't scream bloody murder.. they thought it was just "gas".. he almost died. It was horrible.. this was when he was 17. He was in the hospital for 6 weeks. It's not entirely his fault.. he can't smoke weed because it causes him to have panic attacks and it's not legal in our state for medicinal purposes and he can't test positive for his job. So for his anxiety and panic I think a long acting benzo would benefit him and kind of multi task for his RLS and the aformentioned shenannigans.

I do however have Lyrica here and will let him try it out if he is willing for the pain. However, it is addictive too on some levels right? You have to taper off and all that jazz.. Also what is the half life of Lyrica? Also, I don't even think Lyrica is scheduled so it's legal for him to try it anyways right?

To Violenza:

I can understand your husbands point of view. I just want to warn you that sometimes doctors may look at him like a drug seeker if he straight out asks for benzos (or especially for an opiate). If he can get one than ask for Klonopin, its the most effective. But I swear by the Klonopin+Lyrica combination. However these days doctors will prescribe Requip, tricyclic antidepressants and crap like that as first line treatment. My wife was offered (we both suffer RLS. We make a perfect couple) some antidepressants and then after the second appointment she was given Klonopin (with Requip which she didn't take.) RLS REALLY SUCKS when untreated! Especially when laying in bed. :!

And as far as the Lyrica. It is a scheduled drug but only Schedule V. The main reason why it is a Schedule drug is because in studies some people experienced "highs" (which by the way, it can very much get you high at the correct dose). Some people felt similar effects to benzodiazepines. However, I'm not sure if doctors taper you off it because I was taken it off once and he just discontinued me at 450mg (near maximum daily dose) after 8 months on it cold turkey. Very little withdrawals.

By the way Violenza, I believe you have talked to my wife, she is on this forum on occasion and she (Riley) has talked to me about you. About our similar pain suffering. :)

Anything that will increase dopamine in the brain, such as requip

Theres amphetamines too but that will defeat the purpose of sleep

RLS is contributed to a lack of dopamine in the brain

It has high affinity to the dopamine receptors and also acts on opoid receptors so it's a win win situation

If you don't have access to that lyrica will work wonders, tramadol and of course your roxy

this may a frail suggestion considering the scripts discussed before..

but what about magnesium supplements, either taken daily or in large doses as and when..
Just avoid it with calcium as they counteract each other with regards physiological roles
Mg=muscle relaxation & Ca=Muscle contraction

Be careful with too much magnesium intake, it can give you the shits big time.

Thank you so much for your reply :).... I am going to talk to him about lyrica.. for him it's not about getting "high" it's about falling asleep If I could open his mind to lyrica he might be interested. He has tried my klonopin and it helps and works for him, maybe I could give him a lyrica too and check him on the combo :)

We do suffer from similiar conditions.. if you want to talk about it I am around.. you guys can PM me I have Yahoo AIM and MSN.. both you and your wife are cool :)
