Introduction - the best question.. WHY (warning if your a vet most of this information will make you go DUH so don't bother reading the wall of text lol)
Sitting here on a Saturday bored and wanted to contribute an opinion that may be useful for many different people who are considering going with AAS. This is not so much a RULES type of post but more of the WHY behind what a lot of people say on these boards. Many people who have been around AAS for a long time and get asked certain questions over and over again tend to spit out the same responses without every explaining to the person why. And to me the most powerful question about something is WHY. So here is a WHY post, why you are NOT ready or why you ARE ready.
1. Why do they say I need to be x weight, x bf% or x years in the gym before I do a cycle
This is the most common question and if answered incorrectly they say you are not ready and most of the time the newb doesn't know WHY this is so important so here we go. I'm going to answer this by answer other common questions that DIRECTLY relate to this one.
a. How much will I lose when I come off the cycle
Beyond water weight and PCT which I'll mention later the BIGGEST factors in this is your training, genetics and nutrition. But WHY?
Well lets explore that, if you are doing your first cycle and are not close to your genetic potential ( obtainable one that you can get to naturally) and you KNOW what you are doing then after you get off the cycle you might lose the water weight and then GAIN it back in muscle between your cycles. The reason this happens is because you know HOW to train, you know WHAT to eat, and you know what works for you (this last one is a constantly evolving/moving target of knowledge)
So how do you know that you know how to train. For this I'm going to refer you to a cycle log written by iron.E which I really enjoyed reading (his second cycle is in his sig). YOUR LOG is the first step, if you don't know where are were and where you are you don't know what works for you and what does not. Without a log you are out in the ocean without a compass, GPS, or starts to guide you. In other words you have NFI what to do or where you are going and if you eventually hit land you don't know where the hell you are and is more than likely not where you wanted to go. Without this log you CAN NOT build the kind of knowledge needed to continually grow or gain any significant amount of knowledge on YOUR body and what YOU react to. Now don't think I'm talking about a cycle log, I'm talking about a log where you keep your progress that directly relates to what you were doing in the gym during that time period and what you were stuffing in your mouth.
Now what worked for you at 150 lbs may not work for you at 200 lbs because you are closer or at your genetic limit. If you do not have the knowledge and can not connect the data points between what worked and why you can not gain the knowledge of what to do. If you add to that a crutch like AAS during your learning curve you will NEVER know how to train or what to do. With AAS in your system you can run pretty much any training and you will grow however that same training may or may not work for you when you are off. If you don't know how to train and what works then when you end the cycle you are likely to lose everything you gained or most of what you gained and also leave with faulty knowledge. There are 10000 scenarios of what can go wrong with faulty knowledge you can imagine the others.
Now how does this all relate to question 1? Well your weight, years in the gym and bf% are a good indicator of your knowledge and discipline. So it is much easier to ask those questions and tell you that you are not ready then to write everything I just did.
2. Know your AAS PCT and ancillary products
This is the second area that lets you know if you are ready yet. You need to research and this should take you at least a month or 2 at MINIMUM and a ton of questions on boards like these. You need to understand exactly what everything is going to do to your body and what to expect when on it. More so if you are using UG gear because you might just be injecting a vial of oil that has noting in it.
This is the MUCH easier side of using AAS until you really do get to the point past your genetic limits (usually 2 MAYBE 3 cycles done correctly in most cases).
Take the advice from the guys who are trying to help, do not be combative because you read on some article that it does not do things the way someone who is a MOD or a VET just told you. If someone who has been around for a while says something make sure to give them the benefit of the doubt every time and use that as a reason to do more research on the subject and then come to your conclusion. Do not dismiss a vets advice as BS unless you did additional research from many sources that conclusively dictate otherwise. Remember there are things you do not know that you do not know and many of these vets have shed light on this area through research and self experimentation. I read a post before about a guy saying he didn't know what "aspirate" was on an injection, this is the PERFECT example of not knowing what you do not know. He thought he knew how to administer and injection and then through new light realized he didn't. No offense to him whatsoever (seems like a good bro) I just figured it would make a good example of not knowing what you do not know.
Until you know every last detail about what you are going to use DO NOT USE IT YET. DO not just grab a sample cycle and run it. Yeah it might work but so will running dbol for 3 months straight. Understand what you are doing, what to expect, and have a clear path forward. This will also come in handy if you are missing some gear mid cycle, spilled a vial or anything funky happens because you will know enough to know what to do.
3. WHY is this important
a. A cycle will cost you between 4 c's to 1g and that is a lot of money to not get anything out of.
b. The more knowledge you have the more effective the cycle will be
c. Keep your gains post cycle
d. You won't kill yourself or cause permanent damage (generally) with AAS
4. If you have to ask if you're ready, you are not ready.
and finally, keep in mind that even though we talk about AAS like it has no long term effects (which is generally false because they do but will generally not send you to the grave) this ONLY applies to users who KNOW what they are doing and do not ABUSE it.
There are many more aspects to this and hopefully we can get more people posting the why's of if you are ready or not and have a very good compilation of knowledge!
