Dopamine Hornyness

When I was first prescribed Methylphenidate and had no tolerance it made me incredibly horny. Once I built up some tolerance it stoped doing that.

To date, has anyone figured out which dopamine receptors have to be effected in what manner to produce hornyness?

Perhaps the goverment is withholding the info because they don't want to introduce a drug into society that would make everyone sex maniacs. Ok, I'm letting my imagination run away...

Drugs that increase serotonin -- or agonize 5-ht1a (blocking this receptor makes getting hard easier) -- have been known to cause limpdick for a while. This goes for ecstasy, cocaine, Prozac, MDAI, DXM, and in my experience some 2Cs. Cannabidiol is a 5-ht1a agonist, but this is usually offset by its vasodilator effects in my experience.

Methylphenidate, though, has no serotonin activity.

odly everyone says MDPV had a massive PERV factor (it also did wit me).

What was more atypical was Benzylpiperazine (BZP) had an EVEN BIGGER perv factor with me. Like a say, VERY ATYPICAL!

it has to do with the relationship between prolactin and dopamine, and dopamine and testosterone. as i remember it prolactin decreases testosterone levels and dopamine levels. but dopamine can also decrease prolactin levels, which increases testosterone. its something like that. look up prolactin and you'll figure it out.

It doesn't have anything to do with testosterone, but prolactin/oxytocin likely play a role. This hypersexuality (as well as compulsive gambling and other rewarding behaviors) can be seen with D2 agonists such as those use to RLS....

It's because increased dopamine increases hornyness... I thought that was a given. It's why someone who has very low dopamine like schizophrenia/ parkinsons doesn't get horny.

That's why gay men use meth so much because it makes you incredibly horny. It doesn't matter if you can't get hard... that's irrelevant.

Yep I remember some lawsuit (don't know if it came to anything) by someone who'd gambled away thousands while geting treatmewnt with a dopamine agonist for RLS


BTW methamphetamine causes 5-HT release so is likely to lead to limp dick anyway. MDPV is almost exclusively a DRI, so hence the hypersexuality (It didn't get the name 'pervert powder' for nothing!)

are you serious? uhh no schizophrenia is from lack of production of dopamine. yes there may be more dopamine in the prefrontal cortex or w/e it's called but if you read about schizophrenia, it all has to do with what comes from not producing enough...

That's why people who have schiz have lack of motivation, lack of pleasure in life, all those things which "high levels" would be the opposite ( extremely motivated, high levels of energy).

Actually, you're both wrong, or half right if you want to see things that way, in that there's the "negative symptoms" of schizophrenia -- apathy, anhedonia, etc. -- linked to dopamine deficits, among other things ... and the "positive" symptoms of schizophrenia -- hallucinations, delusions, disorganized speech/thought, etc. and these are linked to excessive dopamine activity. Both can occur in a single patient at varying points, or even together, which predictably is correlated with a mixed picture neurologically and with regards to dopamine activity.

Note that anti-dopaminergic drugs (antipsychotics) are used to halt schizophrenia's positive symptoms, but these often do nothing for or in fact worsen the negative symptomology, especially over time. And, point of fact, amphetamine given to a schizophrenic patient helps the negative symptoms you mention but worsens the positive ones with a good deal of reliability.

It's just not at all as simple as either explanation -- "too much dopamine" or "lack of dopamine production". There is some profound dysregulation that occurs involving dopamine and the other neurotransmitters besides, that much is certain.
