Does it annoy anyone else that it seems like a lot of people who have never done MDMA completely misunderstand and it would seem misappropriate the affects it has on the user?

I was flipping around Youtube and ended up watching some horrible NBC Dateline special on ecstasy. It's terrible. Don't watch it. But on top of that it seemed so much like propaganda that I got mad. It was just at points making things up. They mention "ecstasy paraphernalia" for goodness sakes. That and it seems like whenever I start to talk to someone about MDMA and what it does it seems as though a lot of people just have these very uneducated and quite backward ideas about what it even does, not to mention the "damage" they think it does.

That's what government created fear and propaganda will do. Unfortunately the general population as a whole is not an overly intelligent (or rational) group of people. Its very easy to fall into a sheep mentality and believe everything that the government says.

That's why its important to have sites and organizations like bluelight, erowid, dancesafe, ecstasy data...etc so that people can become more informed.

Dateline NBC is pretty dodgy to begin with. I've found ABC's Ecstasy Rising to be a surprisingly unbiased look at ecstasy.

And yes, I do find it annoying.

Drug Policy 101: Lie.

It causes more harm than good, the boy who cried wolf has gone global. We're so used to being lied to even Joe Average takes things with a pinch of salt.

Worse yet, some people get so used to blindly following government dictats, that they rely on it. Then something like Mephdrone hits the legal highs market and you get 12 year old's eating 2g at a time because "it' must be safe if it's legal"

It's true. True and sad. I've heard people talk about smoking Salvia and man I don't want to ever do that stuff. I've heard both good and bad things about it but it just doesn't sound right for me. But still people are like oh well it must be safe and fun if it's legal.

lol I think there is a case for this. If you see someone with a binky in their mouth and vics slathered on their face while staring at glowsticks I think it's pretty safe to say that they are under the influence of MDMA.

It bugs the shit out of me. I'm not talking about the media, but rather the people who have these wild misconceptions of what drugs really are. I know a couple of people in my class that have only smoked Cannabis, and think that they're the shit because of it, but they're too afraid to try anything else. I hear them talk about meth, coke, mdma, etc, but the one that irritates me most are LSD/ Shrooms. "HAHA DUDE THAT MUST BE LIKE WHAT SHROOMS ARE LIKE"

No, it's not >.< stfu and get educated!

QFT! I'm sure a lot of people would rather not suck on a binky in public unless absolutely necessary :D

if this thread had a "like" button, i would press it. good OP post and good replies.

everyone is born into this kind of ignorant bubble so you cant really expect people to believe you right away. if someone came up to me when i was 12 was like "yo dude, the government lies, ecstasy and weed are good for you man" i'd be like WTF?

you have to keep bugging them about being open minded eventually they might understand

I totally agree. I just figure that if and when i'm wrong I always try to humble myself instead of getting defensive and actually learn from it. Like if someone tells me flat out that i'm wrong, i'll ask them to then teach me the proper way or what have you. I think if more people did that, things wouldn't be so touchy between us all.

Dont mean to burst your bubble or anything, but salvia is pretty safe ;).

The drug itself is pretty safe, but the things people do on it aren't so safe haha. With a sitter it's pretty great though.

Omfg, story of my life. It seems no matter what you have to say about drugs, if it's talking with someone who is against the use of drugs you (well, me anyway) get shot down straight away. I don't think people think it's possible for the government to be wrong or inaccurate it's just "well the government said all drugs are bad so they must be right".

In all fairness though, I was once upon a time one of those people and I think if it wasn't for bluelight, erowid etc. I would probably still think the same way about drugs and the people that use them as I used to. :)

"Sheep mentality". I use that exact term quite often. I am VERY happy that I signed up here. Feels like home already.

Ecstasy Rising is one of the most accurate and unbiased televised documetaries on mdma. If people in here haven't seen it, you must!!

A very good documentary! Please watch if you haven't!

LOL so true. I have since switched to a mouth guard however since a binky can mess with your teeth. MMMM Vicks. Is it sad that even the thought of it makes me grin?

I'm one of those people that grew up being told "All drugs are bad, do bad things to you and have no good, redeeming qualities what so ever. Here, have some cigarettes and alcohol."

I think that kind of thinking has done me more harm than good. As soon as my bubble was broken and I learned that many illegal drugs are not even as bad for you as alcohol or cigarettes and their positive effects are even WAY better, I began wondering if all I've been told about harder drugs like crystal meth and heroin were lies too. Of course, I've done my research and found that those drugs ARE really something I'm not interested in, but if I hadn't looked that up what would have happened?

i completely agree with you. i feel sorry for people who have never experienced the full goodness of what MDMA can do for a person. ive been in a few treatment facilities and there were kids who would say things like, "oh man i love going to the club and popping a thizz and getting all crazy and violent" or "i get mean when i thizz" i respond with, "that aint E. its something else." its really annoying how misinformed people are. what really irritates me is people saying Mac Dre started thizz and ecstasy and what not. personally i dont like Mac Dre and he's partly to blame why youth these days have the wrong idea on Ecstasy. the governemtn and its propaganda also bugs me. MDMA being schedule 1 also bugs the shit out of me. my clean date started when the last time i rolled. i took 150mg of MDMA and i had such a great experience that i didnt feel the need to use anything else anymore. i had no desire to drink or smoke weed or pop pills. its definitely more therapeutic than the medicine we are given.
