Joint Release: Government's new $17 million campagn to combat illicit drug use in Aus

the entire continent jumped down Holland's throat every time they tried to be reasonable on the drug legislation. And that was the best possible place to try it. Australia's got even less of a chance. We have role-models, but they are not the type of role models the greater public would understand/look up to

Yes, irony at it's worst.
We should submit like a hundred of them saying, "This is what could happen if you don't test your pills" lol

Demand to speak to the Wizard of Oz!!

Howdy folks. TJ from USA. This war on drugs crap don't work in the USA, tellem it 8nt gonna work in the Magic Land (of Oz) either! I would demand to speak to the Wizard & have him repeal this at once! (Ok little shite humour, but seriously...) You can see how well it works for us, haha. Not.

Interesting, I'll do my best to submit a proper film about 'facing facts' aka the damage prohibition has done to ecstasy. No doubt it doesn't stand a chance of winning but if its edited and produced with some professionalism it could be a 'controversial' finalist or whatever.

Obviously the supposed problem of illicit substance abuse, trafficking etc. isn't going to go away. It would be in a powerful politicians least interest to advocate any of the aforementioned points due to it most likely being the end of their career, just like police not arresting drug use when they are on the job because it isn't in the interest of their career's objectives. Once the now younger generation comes into power with respect to politics and dominance in relation to population numbers then we will see change.

Also guys, the movie has $10,000 prize ;)

I'm thinking of entering purely because I don't think they will get alot of submissions.
It's a difficult thing to approach, 60 seconds isn't long.

It's long enough to say all the dangers and few of the benefits.

Heres how my movie will look if I get around to making it (kinda busy with uni studies + working 20+ hours a week)

anyhow heres what I'm thinking...
Dark room... the music starts, lights come on and you see everyone dancing (all aged around 20) you see my pupils they are huge :O I start buzzing around the room and sculling waters, saying I'm so thirsty i need more water need more water.

Then everything slowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwws down, I fall faint and collapse.

And the voice says "Did you know, that people on ecstasy don't know whats going on to the point they drink enough water to kill themself, others don't have any and dehydrate themself, MDMA also knowns as Ecstasy can and does kill... Don't do drugs... and if you do, know the facts and know the risks"

Good plan? Would you guys vote for my movie?

thestudent14 you are kidding, right? I know uni students are broke but thats going too far mate just to make a dollar.

i think you would get banned on bluelight for making such a video haha.

my question, what woud you spend 10k on?

drugs!

so let's do one where an 18yr old is about to pop a pill, then he sees a cloud shaped like jesus and throws the pill in the bin, the next morning he goes to church, and when he steps outside, he reads a paper on a bench '10 killed in deadly ecstasy batch'

Cant beat them, join 'em... but use your ill gotten winnings to fund your drug habbit.

That'd be the best 'win' we could hope for. There's no such thing as exposing the real truth to the public.

That'd be like a mule with a spinning wheel... dang if they'd know what to do with a real honest video about safe drug use... enough stupid people already do drugs, and anyone who watches these Government videos seriously, is not a smart people.

Lol I was only half serious, In the sense that I'm not gonna make that video, but I think that sort of video could have a chance whilst trying to avoid making ecstasy looking too bad.

Kind of a hard thing to do in 60 seconds, because if it didn't highlight these sorts of facts it would never get any votes.

What would your video be like Dave82?
I think this is a good chance for everyone to take a second and say what their video would be like if they had the time.

Contrast dismissal: There are a number of heroin images and Jesus doing the rounds; i'm sure he'd like some of the love!

I love how every depiction of drug use in popular media has guns or a motorcycle in the background.

C'mon people, everybody knows that all drugs is heroin and anyone who ever ate a drugs is a criminal that kills people and rapes children.
:\

Cmon, the government site promoting the video competition is itself a huge contradiction.
I'd love to face the fucking facts about ecstasy, but about 25 words into the description, we are reminded that our video must rant about how pills are made using nail polish remover, gypsy tears and Pauline Hanson.

Well if I could make a video, it would show a guy testing a pill and having a great time, then pan to a dude that hasn't tested and bought from some random in the club. He collapses on the ground. It would have a voice over saying "This man tested his pill, this man didn't. Without testing, you don't know what it'll do to you".

I spose this might fit in to their guidelines, not sure though.

Great idea, but the government generally considers the acceptance of pill testing to be akin to acceptance of ecstasy use.

Not only that, but it's a less than fool proof method, and, from discussions many years ago, it appears it's also illegal, even if you test another person's pills and don't touch them. So with the legal side of things and accuracy also being an issue, even if the condoning thing wasn't there it's pretty much a certainty that reagent tests would never get the government thumbs up.

Unless inexpensive pocket sized IMS or GC/MS units become available in the near future, our only realistic hope is for a government sanctioned testing facility based on a universal early warning system, where results are available to the all, including the public. Some of us have been striving for this for many years, at times in the face of considerable opposition from all sides.

That is an a top idea. If it ever comes up for discussion again it's definately something I would give all my spare time to thrive for.

+1

great idea, hadn't considered that but it is a really good one.

pocket sized MS sounds like a dream though. I've seen one in my life... they take up the approximate area of a BATHTUB.

Thanks p_d. I wasn't aware that the act of testing was illegal. Are test kits technically illegal as well ?

I agree. A public testing service would help people a hell of a lot in making safer, less hamrful drug taking decisions. Too bad I can't see it happening anywhere in the near future :p

Once the oldies die out I'm sure the country will move a lot more left-wing. Cross our fingers for a knowledgable Prime Minister ;)
