^ Way too impractical! I dare say legalising drugs would cause wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more problems then it would solve.

Should be less enforced though, their should be less focus on drug use/abuse and more on these other issues that you mentioned.

A properly regulated system would definitely reduce many of the consequences of the present, largely illicit market. It could also provide a much needed evaluation process for new 'legals' entering the market.

Why? You would rather trust a black market than professional scientists etc.

How would it cause more problems, please elaborate, Do you not want clean pure forms of all existing chemicals made properly and obtainable more safely by you.

I hope this will decrease duds going around and bring in more high mdma pills. Plus, Powdered form and capsule production will just take over the pill, imo this isn't doing much.

Why not legalize and regulate all drugs, no more deaths, no more lives ruined, more money. Combat the real problems such as poverty and REAL crimes (murder etc).
Are you kidding me?
Alcohol and Tobacco cause more deaths than illegal drugs and lives are ruined by alcohol too, just look up in the aboriginal communities.

True, the drugs would be of higher quality and of purity.

As previously stated alcohol and tobacco are the biggest killers in the country as it is. Now if other more dangerous drugs were legalised it would be foolish to think that meth, MDMA, heroin, K, 4-mmc, LSD, Cocaine and many more would not all be far worse.

YES, they are associated with far less deaths then alcohol or tobacco, but thats because of how much less they are used, if they were legalised in society it would be nothing short of chaotic.

Health issues concerned would go through the roof as people try mixing drugs due to how accessable they would become. Peoples problems with addiction especially with Meth And Heroin and I suspect MDMA would go way up.

So... you might be thinking this would be outweighed by how much organised crime would go down. To that I say their always be a place for organised crime, legalising a lesser evil will just make them turn to something else. The illegal weapons trade in Australia would most likely go through the roof.

My dad who is very very anti drugs, said something which I thought was pretty wise. We were talking about weather or not weed should be legalised, to which I stated people who want to do it, will still do it, and lets not forget that their is far more deaths purely from alcohol, And then if you throw in the massive amounts of damage done from drunk people on a weekly basis surely alcohol is worse then weed.
He said I was probably right, but he also said that just because one thing is worse then the other doesn't mean that the weaker should be legalised.

percentages and statistics aside, if weed was legal, it would cause more harm. Still might not be as bad as alcohol or tobacco but it will stilll cause more harm then it currently does.

This in my eyes applies to all drugs.

I love my drugs... but I'm smart enough to see that they need to be controlled to some extent, all that we can hope for is a reduction of busts in personal use. Maybe one day their could be some level of regulation amongst illicit drugs, but if someone can find a way to make it viable then I'd encourage them to make it happen.

So givemeword, what makes you think the country would be a safer place with legalisation of ALL drugs. Your turn ;)

I don't agree that marijuana is dangerous at all. Its literally the most NON toxic plant to humans available on this planet. No othe rplant contains LESS damaging substances then the Cannabis plants...

Where did you read that?

Not so sure about that, but I can say that LSD is one of the least toxic chemicals known to man :)

The point is that people are aware of the risks when they consume tobacco or alcohol, but they make the decision anyway, thus they are making a legal decision based on the information.

Why can't this be the same for something that causes less harm? What gives alcohol and tobacco its "charm"?

I'll tell you!

Stigma.

Stigma, the bane of all recreational drugs. How I wish western culture had gone the way of the east and smoked hookahs for hundreds of years. How I wish those grapes and hops weren't so easy to grow for our ancestors.

I'd love to write more about this but I'm at work so I'll have to leave it here.

The bottom line is this; why give a man in a suit the right to decide which plants that grow in the dirt you can and can't ingest, under your own roof, with your own plant, with your own pipe and your very own lighter.

Because of stigma!

This thread has gone way off course. If someone cares to start another, appropriately titled thread to continue this discussion I'll split off the relevant posts. Until then, closed.
