MEGA - Courses and Careers related to Drugs

I need to interview a psychopharmacologist

Probably starting next week I'm going to need to interview somebody who is in a career that I'm interested in for my career planning class.

As in the title, I'm looking for psychopharmacologists. It would be a great relief to find someone in this career because I know I won't be able to find one IRL. Also, since this is my top career choice I definitely want to find some information out about what the job consists of and I'm not just doing this just to finish an assignment. I don't want to have to interview someone who's in a career that I'm not interested in just so I can complete this.

So send me a message if you can help me out!

College Drug Classes

Hey, so I was curious about taking courses in college that have to do with Drugs, their addiction potential and how they work in the body. Do these classes make drugs seem really bad or are they objective in their teachings? %)

yeah, from what I know, those courses are exactly that... objective. it's science courses you're going to find, not seminars on the merits of drug abuse... as far as I know

the drug class i took was not hardly really about drugs. it was mapping the the functions of different areas of the brain using the effects of drugs as a guide. awesome imo. was called drugs and the brain, the text book was called psychopharmacology. the moral aspect of drugs was never even mentioned.

Actually, at my school there is a social science course about psychoactive drugs. It was offered by the dept. of psychology. I have to do some digging, but I'm pretty sure it still exists.

the Drugs & Behavior class i took was purely objective, and dealt more with the neuropharmacology aspect than anything else

unless you're majoring in Psychology, there's really no reason to take such classes

^ Agreed.

Man, I have bad memories of such. I took a psychology department drug course in undergrad (which ended up being a large disappointment). My roommate was in the course with me, though, and at about week 3 I had provided him with his first dose of MDMA. More or less, he felt like a god afterward and would not shut up about drugs, drug legalization, and everything which made him come across as completely transparent for the rest of that semester. The class/teacher did not receive him well, and it was just an awkward environment. I know how to bite my tongue, but good luck finding a course that a familiarized BLer won't view as patronizing and such...

What's your major? I agree with the folks that say unless you're a psych major this class may be worthless and, more importantly, a waste of precious money. If you want to learn about how drugs affect people you're prolly better off hitting up a bookstore or searching amazon.com or something.

Psychology :)

I am interested in becoming a Psychotherapist but that may all change with time. I do know I want to go into Psychology though!

well the 3 big concentrations in psychology are Clinical Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and Behavioral Neuroscience. and then there's graduate options in therapy, psychiatry, neuroscience/pharmacology, and probably others.

figuring out exactly what you want to do is key, and then you can discuss it with your advisor to find the best path for you to take

If that's the case then you'll possibly be counseling drug addicts and the class would be of benefit.

I'm actually really interested about what the job consists of too. If you could let us know what you find that would be awesome. :)

So i am 17 and life is becoming pretty important and i cant just fuck around at school.
And im trying to find some sort of idea on what i want to be when im older . . .

and i looked at my interests , and im not gonna lie , the only things i seem to be interested in are drugs (from illiegal drugs to prescription drugs) , business and making money .
So i was looking around at different carrers when a friend of mine says his mom is a pharmacist. . . So i was like wow that has to do with drugs right ! ? turns out to become one you have to study dam hard and know every single little thing about the human body

so fuck being a pharmacist . i suck at biology and all sciences (im just about passing them )

my strengths (i.e better subjects are business , computers and drugs :P its a big interest of mine lol . i LOVE blight , and i dont know what the hell i would do without it . + drugs are so interesting . )

so any way , are there any jobs out there that you could recommend me that have something to do with drugs ?

(apart from the obvious like drug dealer , grower , etc lol )
