Harm Reduction Injection Complications FAQ and Mega Thread

It seems to be raised skin I suppose. Its not like a hard bubble with like fluid underneath and it usually dissipates quickly. I think it might be a histamine release because it does not hurt or anything like that. I know I'm doing a poor job explaining but it's hard to say because it's really just a small bump i suppose at the injection site. And thanks haha one of my favorite movies.

i know when i use 31g needles (sometimes even when im using my 26g) i get a raised bit of skin from the needle exiting the arm. if thats what it is then its nothing to get hung up about.

I'm using 30g and also I have been switching between 3 rigs for a few days so new ones will hopefully help planning on going to an exchange. I think it might have something to do with removing it to fast perhaps with the 30g? Anyway you found a good technique with it removal leftwing?

I dont IV but it sounds like youre probably missing and getting an IM shot, I would say it sounds like your dose is too small but the fact that you still get high means its not. Also im pretty sure youre not supposed to have a bubble at all but i dont know for sure.

It's hard to miss an IV shot and get an IM shot instead. It's more likely to hit the subcutaneous area. When you miss a shot and you get a bump on your arm -> subcutaneous injection.

Have a bubble at all? What does that mean? You mean in the syringe? It's OK to have some very small air bubbles in the syringe, but having several units of air in the syringe can make it very difficult for you to see whether or not you're actually in the vein fully when you're registering.

Reusing needles can cause them to dull, and do more damage to your vein than a brand new one would.

ah so youve been reusing? that would definitely explain it! avoid reusing needles man, theyll be ripping the shit out of your veins and doing other damage, risking other problems.

i think the raise i get is from pulling out too quickly because i notice when i ease it out slower i never acquire the little raised bit of skin. just ease it out nice and steadily:)

good to hear youre going to an exchange. ordering sharps online is also another option you should look into.

In NJ you can't get needles, that is the problem. I had to go to Staten Island to buy a ten pack and I ended up giving most of them away so I've been using the 3 rigs for a few days but not too much since I'm not hooked. Going to try to hit up an exchange in Manhattan and get into a better situation because I tried IVing again but the needle hurt going in this time so I didn't do it and decided on waiting until I get new ones to IV again.

well my advice for the future would be change your ROA next time you run out of syringes. id try plugging the solution because it gives you the next best BA and a high similar to that of injecting. it comes on a lot quicker as well.

good luck:)

Seconded. After 2-4 uses of a needle, it becomes very dulled. I can post the picture if anyone would like to see it.

Yeah it sounds like they're too dull to be used safely.

Good idea about going up to NY to get some.

Sorry that NJ is still in the dark ages. I thought that NJ had some needle exchanges though?

I.V question?

Sometimes i will hit what i think will be a vein, but instead of the usual "mushroom cloud" of dark red blood. A slow but steady stream of dark red blood will fill the syringe. As long as i have it in, the blood will slowly fill the rig. This has happened to me a few times and i do not know what to make of it. This morning i had this happen, and out of frustration not being able to hit a decent vein, i dropped the plunger. It did not burn like a miss and i somewhat got a rush. I also am high, but not how i usually get when i do the amount i did. So does anyone know whats going on here? Anyone else encounter this? What exactly am i hitting. ANY info would be greatly appreciated.

So you still think i am in a vein even though i am not getting the "explosion" of blood? I figured i was since i got a rush (even though it was a small rush). I just want to make sure that the slow steady stream of blood means i'm in a vein, for future reference.

I have a question, in my left arm crook the big vein closest to your body that kinda swoops across and onto your forearm.
I have used that vein for like 15+ years and the vein itself has grown, become larger so its quit visible and there is alot of "brosk"(spelling?) in it so u gotta really push through to get into the vein.
Anyway, it looks like it just stops at a point, it goes a few millimeters onto the forearm then its just a big wall, like a sealed off pipe.
I dont know if it goes down into the arm or whatever cause i have very visible veins and i cant se anything when i tie up the arm just that wall.

It goes fine upward my shoulder though.
Is this something normal?

Yes you are in a vein. Its different for each vein of mine.

The same thing seems to happen to me all the time. Usually I'll pull back slightly on the plunger and have little wisps of blood come into the barrel, but every once in a while it will just slowly ooze.

The thing is, though, while it depends on the vein for you, I use the same vein to shoot in every time, and it oozes instead of wisping randomly. Any reason for that?

Yeah it's happened to me depending on the vein. Harder to hit ones often result in that slow trickle for me at least.

Ok my friend is feeling sick lately, shes a dope addict. She's really pale, has a nasty taste in her throat, blood seems darker, she bleeds more and has been nauseous a lot.

I told her to go to the doctor just in case, but anyone have any idea what could be wrong?
