Hey I set up a box with 2 cfl's one warm white, and the other day light. One is 40 watts and the other 45 watts. My question is that i had 5 seeds and only one started to germ and that was an ak-47 real amsterdam seed. It started germing like opend up and the white was coming out but not fully tail like other seeds do so i did not wait and put it in soil under these lights. Did i do anything wrong?? how long till it sprouts?? the soil seems hardish on top but it contains biohumus and nutrients and shit but was only 1.50 because they dont have better soil where I am. Should everything go ok. The seed was starting to germ was open and a bit of white was coming out of it.

danky,

it takes seeds a much longer time to germinate (on average) in soil. you have to keep the soil moist enough but not too wet for them to sprout. have you never heard of germinating your seeds in paper towels inside a tupperware container?

also...your grow lights are ENTIRELY insufficient as well as the wrong spectrum. if you wanted to grow 5 plants, you'll need much more light (i'm getting ahead of myself tho i think). vegetative growing calls for some good blue/green spectrum light (1800-3000 spectrum) AKA COOL WHITE, while flowering is a much more RED light (around 6500) aka DAYLIGHT.

imho CD is not a good place to find information for growing. you should check out other sites online that are solely dedicated to cultivating MJ. rollitup.org is a good one...

Yes I heard of germinating seeds. This is my first grow with cfl's I used mh and hps before but cant get it anymore. I was recommended this spectrum of lights here
http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=467496 They should be enough to let em sprout right? I was going to add more lights I will take a picture of the box. Also the seed was half germinating I dropped it water for about 32 hours and the white thing was out half way not all the way with the tail I did not wait long enough for it to start germinating

now why you say that? i made my way to BL from OG and i know some others did too and OG was undeniably the grow site of the decade.

anyway, dankycodone, he's right about the lights. ideally, you'd want 100W equivalent (be sure to note the difference between ACTUAL wattage and incandescent equivalent) daylight bulbs (they're big fuckers) for each seed to give them the best head start. the problem with CFLs is not that they don't produce enough light but rather that people often poorly shield them which leads to poor results because the majority of the lumens (the raw energy required for photosynthesis) are escaping in other directions and diffusing.

the key to really making your plants pop is to shield the bulbs properly to direct all the light at the plants and also to keep the lamps as close to the plants as possible to max out the lumen penetration and get results more reminiscent of an HID grow. i can't even remember how many times i burned leaves because i had the bulbs TOO close (rule of thumb: 3" is a good distance for most CFLs) but those were always the strongest plants %)

+1

good info here

and no nutrients until there are leaves, not cotyledons, leaves.

Actual wattage of both together is 85 watts. I will add two more 45watt daylight cfl's.
Does the set up look good? I can put these two more lights but how can't i directly point them at the plant because its a box what if i just put it in the box it will still get the light right?? how does the set up look like This is my first ever box built. I grew once before with mh and hps in my closet.

Edit- I been researching over the internet and people say that once you put the seeding in the soil there are no lights required. Maybe that killed the seed? please anyone help.

lol, look germ the seed between 2 paper towels first, not in soil but if the white part is poking out then it is okay to put it in soil, after you do water it. you really need to stick it outside for awhile to get it going on some good sunlight. but with those 2 cfl's it might break ground might not, just depends, if it does break ground it's gonna be small and weak. you need much more light and in a different spectrum, the ones you have now aren't gonna do much for them and you are gonna end up killing your plant because it's not got the right spectrum of light to photosynthesis with, not enough photosynthesis it can't feed itself an it starves to death, so I recommend you go to rollitup.com check out the beginners section and look up how to grow marijuana it will tell you the spectrum you need for veg and get a BUNCH of those and put them near the pot.

I did not germ in soil am not a newb I said I germinated in a cup of water and the tail was coming out . http://www.icmag.com/gallery/data/500/65286IM000816.JPG It looked like the third seed when I planted it in soil. My problem is the soil I dont know if u guy's can tell or not if it is really shitty or not I can't get any better soil. I am also pretty sure that if the soil is good that seed should sprout with these two lights. There is no sunlight its almost winter. What spectrum should I add??

Look at ozstoners.com and use the forums there to help you. Whats the drainage like in those pots? Do they have holes at the bottom for good drainage?

Yea it has a hole I am gonna replant it. It sprouted I need to find some good soil but everything is shitty here. It has rocks and grass and shit it sucks.

never use white bulbs EVER...proper wrong..can burn the babies... TSK man what you chatting?!

veg use CFLS(blue), and if you got enough dollar use HPS or HID lights...like a 250 for one and a 400w for 2 or 3, otherwise use Red spectrum CFL

also go to http://www.uk420.com - great site for cannabis cultivation

dankycodone hi that set look alright but i would get a small fan inside there also and id change thata aluminum foil to mylar you can find it sold as xmas rapping paper or you can get it from a fish store usually but over all the room should work out for you for now flowering should be moved to a higher room with like 400 more watts of light any more help hit me back on AIM stephon024 that me i can help with any thing about that subject hint hint
