Vitamin B12:

Wikipedia said:
A common synthetic form of the vitamin, cyanocobalamin, does not occur in nature, but is used in many pharmaceuticals and supplements, and as a food additive, due to its stability and lower cost. In the body it is converted to the physiological forms, methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, leaving behind the cyanide, albeit in minimal concentration.

Was researching this vitamin when I came across this. Cyanocobalamin IS in the B12 supplements I take, so I was wondering just exactly how much of the supplement would I need to take for this to become toxic?

This question stems from pure curiosity (and somewhat safety), I'm not planning to go King of Hearts or anything.

Also, sorry for wasting your time on this somewhat meaningless question.

interesting, I did not know this. I have taken up to 1mg twice weekly before I.M. with no negative effect.

I was under the impression this form of B12 was also used in horses though and IIRC they are highly sensitive to cyanide.

I am also interested.

the amount of cyanide is minimal, something like 3% by weight if all the cyanide was released, it isn't released readily. the body can easily deal with cyanide in low doses. apple pips and almonds contain more cyanide than the cyano B12 and in a form that is readily available.

if you are taking less than tens of grams at a time the potential problem wih the cyanide is non existent.

into your self? sorry I'm no where near as smart as you guys I wish I was specially you man. but yeah Can you inject Vitamin b12 into your self so you wouldn't have to take it in a pill?

I've personally noticed a huge difference between sublingual/oral b12 and I.M. b12.

A fun little factoid, if I remember correctly, Hitler was told he was being given vitamin b12 injections when in reality he was being given amphetamines.

B12 has next to no oral bioavailability. I have used before as an endurance athlete and as a weightlifter since it is supposed to increase appetite among other things. I typically used 1-2mg EOD and would take it IM. Worked relatively well, I noticed also that I generally felt more "energized" or possibly less tired. It is not stimulating but it does help with fatigue from workingout. The appetite increase is mild-mediocre.

^B-12 in the form of cyanocobalamin is basically useless. What you want is methylcobalamin along with folic acid to increase BA. Trust me, it works. I've been taking it for 10+ years and it improves my focus and sleep tremendously
