I haven't smoked in 2 years due to some silly girlfriend related stuff. I never smoked all that much. I found my experiences to vary a lot.
Sometimes it'd be great, and other times the pounding of my heart and its rate would overtake any possible positivity.

Pretty much I'm just wondering if there's any possible advice anyone could offer me for if I start smoking again on occasions. I really want to avoid weird heart stuff and getting freaked out.

Thanks.

I find that my heart races alot when I smoke heavy indicas but not so much when i smoke Sativas. Maybe that would be an option?

Try and start off by smoking in a comfortable, relaxed setting when your already feeling a bit chilled to start with.

Get used to the high, get to know it. Then hopefully with that experience you won't 'freak out' when smoking on other occasions.

Also, increased heart-rate is a side effect of THC, at times it can make it feel like your heart is going to explode (avoid caffeine/stimulants before smoking). But don't worry it won't ;) What your feeling is a combination of a panic reaction and being stoned, and no one has EVER died from a panic attack nor from being stoned. The panic/anxiety will exacerbate that racing heart feeling. Just try to relax I suppose is the best advice I can give.

the weed high is the most natural-feeling, often smooth high out there. i had a friend who didn't like weed when he first started for the same reasons you cited. he now smokes every day. he started smoking alone, late at night before bed and before i knew it i was buying bags from his dealer.

i would just get comfortable (sweat pants and chillin on a comfy couch or bed) and enjoy. remember, weed has never killed anyone.

Thanks for the advice everybody.

JointsNRoaches- I've actually read a lot of things that say the opposite, that sativa makes their heart go where as indica just relaxes them.
I never knew much on the strains I had, but my best high ever was completely not a couch-locking one. So, I really don't know which way to go on the whole indica/sativa. I'll just go with whatever my friends have haha.

Yea bro I mean when I first started I was always very very very paranoid about getting caught and everything. So make sure you are in a good mood when you decide to smoke. Do it in a place where you can act however you want, and do it in a place where yoleu are able to be calm as apposed to having to go from point a to point b. I enjoy going in the woods, or to natural parks, or if you have the house to yourself, then in your garage/bac yard. Then you can just either relax in the woods and just enjoy the beauty of nature and everything, or be inside at you rown home where you are naturally comfortable.

Oh yea. Some basic things i hav foound while smoking is that If you have everything prepared to make your expierience great, then there is no reason at all you will freak out and your heart will have no reason for your heart to beat quickly.

So air freshener in car, gum available all the time, bug spray for the woods, flashlight? know where you want to eat... idk man stuff like that! haha

My heart rate didn't bother me. However, I was reminded of what bothered me even more. I don't know if this is normal, but it makes me worry I'm unhealthy or have some condition. I get a very tight heavy feeling in my chest. And my throat seems to swell and have hella loogies..making me a bit nauseous.
Does this sound normal? I enjoy everything else about weed..I just want it to be how it seems to be for everyone else.

If your only feeling this way after smoking some weed I'd highly doubt it is because of a physical problem you have otherwise you'd be experiencing symptoms when your sober too.

I get a very tight heavy feeling in my chest

That sounds like anxiety.

I don't know if I'm just imagining it but I kinds feel like my chest still feels a bit funny. While high at times it feels hella strained..like pulling. And I feel like there's pressure weighing down on that area..it makes me exhale and inhaling is harder. What really freaks me out is if I could have some heart problem though.
Does anyone else seem to get what I'm feeling? I just don't think it feels normal..

for the first 3 yrs weed was fun then it satrted getting more and more edgy and smetimes after smoking the next day i will have more worries than usual and it impacts my concentration cuz it would make me worry about small things too much and i hate that feeling cuz u cant relax anymore. when u combine it with alcohol it makes it much more fun in my opinions.

Smoke half a bowl. Gauge where you are at after 5 min -- this is when you should start to peak. Smoke more as needed.

A good rule of thumb to remember is drugs are always 50% mind over matter. Depending on the mind state you have going into the drug will often determin the quality of the outcome. So basicly since your not used to burning make sure you have good situations. Cheers ;)

So I've tried smoking twice since originally posting this thread.

1st was odd. I was high, but not how I remembered it being. I didn't feel all disconnected, or much of a "stoned" feeling in my face. I was high though, and got the weird feeling I recalled in my chest..heart rate didn't bother me. I swear my chest didn't feel right for days, coulda been psychological though.

2nd time was much more intense. I wanted sativa as it seemed like that'd suit me best. I smoked probably something like .25g and it was weird. So much of a headfuck, really neat mental stuff, stoned feeling how I remembered..I felt the numb/fuzzy feeling in my chest. I got really, REALLY nauseous and these 2 things made me fucking freak out for the first 30 mins or more. Really not fun. Everything else of the high was how I want it.

What the hell is wrong with me? Do I just need to get used to it and get past that stage? Maybe a doctor's appointment? Anxiety?

I wanna get this figured out so I can enjoy it.

thanks.

New smokers have these symptoms a lot. Honestly I think you can "smoke through it," but if you aren't enjoying it, why force it?

You could try smoking in smaller groups, at night, near your home, anything which reduces anxiety. If you worry about your chest, take Advil, maybe a placebo effect will help ease your mind.
