Weed and College. Studying High.

I'm a math & science person, and I must say that pot has some pretty odd effects on my performance. Like I'll make these ingenious logical leaps while solving problems that surprise even my professors with how novel and apt they are, but then in the next step of the problem I'll screw up some really obvious and elementary shit.

I definitely don't recommend making a habit of it, but it won't absolutely fuck your grades unless you actively allow it to. Your grades are your responsibility, regardless of what drugs you're ingesting they should come first.

What are you studying/majoring in?

I used to enjoy writing short papers while buzzed/drunk or high at rare times, or sometimes the very long essay where it was for an intro class and it was say 25-50 pages and I knew the prof wasn't going to read all of the essay or all of the essays in a class of 25-50 people.

Stimulants like low doses of Ritilian and Adderall and large/moderate doses of caffeine work best though.

99% of the time I did all of my studying sober and I would write papers sober too.

More than a few times I smoked or got drunk before I went to class and it made boring lectures more interesting but as far as note taking goes forget it.

My experience has been similar to that of Roger&Me, that is, MMV (my mileage varies).

I'm a grad student who has been writing a research paper for the last week or two. I've been trying writing at night while "altered" on weed (complemented with sober writing during the day, of course). I think the key here is to get the dose right - if I get too high, my mind wanders and I feel like tripping out to music or something like that. At the right level though, I'm able to maintain focus on writing, while still having my thought patterns scattered enough to allow new ideas to float in, which I've found very helpful. I also tend to obsess a little more about my sentence construction and "phrasing", which may be making my writing clearer to understand. But, I do not plan to make a habit of this, because it's all too easy to get over the limit and waste the entire night. My will power is inversely proportional to the amount of THC in my system. ;)

There was another occasion where I had a rather interesting experience with weed and studies. I was trying to read a paper that had some quite difficult technical concepts (math/robotics), on a Friday afternoon in the lab (sober). I didn't fully "get" the idea of the paper, and kinda gave up on it. That night, I got very high, and decided to read it again. My imagination was running wild, and I found that I was a bit slower reading it, but I could visualize all the concepts so much better. I completely understood everything the paper had to offer, and was even able to implement those ideas in the next week.

So my personal rules are - keep a low tolerance, don't get high and study every day, and if you choose to do it, try small doses, and you might find it beneficial. Of, course, YMMV (in very large letters).

me too, word for word.

the way that weed works best for me is at the end of a study session. i have a hard time reading or grasping new concepts when i'm stoned, but if i've already had math on my mind for an hour or two before i smoke, i can have some great insights and revelations.

of course, that's just with math, which i'm studying now. i got my undergraduate degree in psychology because i just wanted to take easy classes and smoke pot all the time, and that worked splendidly.

Cannabis at times makes studying more enjoyable, but I tried to not get high before class. Most teachers see it as a sign of disrespect. Also, it helps to not get high before tests.

i don't like this thread because i can't be a part of the "i'm so good at studying high!" circle-jerk.

Granted, in college I didn't have to study so much.

BUT, I always used weed as the carrot at the end of the stick, as they say, and rewarded myself once I finished all my shit for the day.

Smoking and schoolwork don't mesh too well for me.

IMO, weed isn't the drug for studying, reading, writing papers, taking tests, etc. Weed makes me distracted, forgetful and prone to digression. Opiates and/or stimulants are the way to go.

i was put on academic probation my first year of college because weed made me too lazy to study. i'm already lazy as is so smoking is not compatible with school. subsequent semesters i would reward myself with a bowl for completing shit, no wake n' bake. my last semester i was using kratom, phenibut and alcohol which didn't really interfere with my studies. i could work on the kratom and phenibut and never liked drinking before 9pm. i got an A- and B+ (only two classes.)
now i'm taking a semester off, working on getting into recovery, hopefully next semester i'll still be sober (maybe some nootropics) and see how that works out.

I really do need to try using weed as a creative tool... could be interesting. The problem is if I dose low, I get non-overwhelming effects but I also get completely unmotivated. If I dose high, I can have the most insane, off the wall, mind-blowing and interesting ideas and such, but I become almost completely dysfunctional at many things. And occasionally those mind-blowing ideas and such aren't ACTUALLY that mind-blowing... ;)

Actually studying in different states of mind can help tremendously, but there's a catch, to completely remember what you learned you'd have to be in the same state of mind as when you learned it.

fro me math and weed went good in college.i would actually get a's.i guess it depends on the person.altough i can hardly remember what went on in my history class, i look back at how i would go blazed out of my mind to first period history and it was only 8 am.back then i would smoke some regs and afterclass it was a bitch coming down.no more regs for me no only the good stuff.

I find that college course work, studying, papers, and such, are best done while clean.

Everyone is different, but in general I would not suggest mixing drugs with serious college studies. College is for getting ahead, laying the foundation to improve your overall quality of life, the work that you do in your future; it's serious stuff and I think it's best to take it seriously.

This is good and sincere/mature advice! You seem to have a strong hold of your priorities and a good control over your usage! You evoke my respect!:)

pot + studying = bad

Uppers are the only acceptable things to take while studying (Adderall is the best)

I have EXTREME ADD so just one puff of weed or one little distraction and I cant concentrate on studying so maybe its different for me... but weed makes you lazy + you get short term memory loss, like i said uppers or coffee seem to the best suited for studying,

Source: I just graduated, but nearly failed out of my first semester of college when I got high alot,

Weed + school + exams = AWESOME grades for me!
I got 3 A* grades (English language, health and social care and child development)
3 A grades (product design, English literature x2)

Well basically I passed everything. I didn't study high (I didn't study at all) but I went to class high several times and didn't go into exams high but smoked the night before. This made me go to the exams calm, relaxed and focused - I kept my head while others around me were freaking out.
Good.

but working through problems is fantastic.
This is pretty much the only way weed and studying meshed for me. When I would hit a wall while trying to figure out an engineering problem I'd take a break, go smoke and then come back to it. It would help me see the problem in a new light. But other than that I try to keep the two separate.

I like to get my homework and studying out of the way. Then relax and get ripped.

This is the way to go. I want smoking to be associated with having fun and relaxing. Not trying to study or do work.

I usually get tongue-tied or when I speak I can't keep a flow of thoughts moving when I'm high. Cost me my old job. Studying on the other hand, if you can keep focused while blazed do it. Better than stimulants for sure.

i personally love smoking in college,
im doing a very creative course (mainly film-making and photography),
and it really does help my ideas..
plus, theres nothing better than editing, or spending time in the darkroom while blazed..

that said, i got caught with alot of hash and mephedrone, aswell as scales, baggys etc in college recently.
after a meeting with college and the police today i somehow (amazingly, im so grateful) managed to get away with no problems, no criminal proceedings, still in college..
but i think for a while its time i cut down in college,
gonna be hard..
