I am definitely a cat person. I like that they can be lovey but self contained at the same time. It also helps to have some of the finest looking felines on the planet!!

Here's Sasha (she's a Bengal btw)

and here's Sister (she's just a mix, but has some of the features of an American Short hair)

Ohhhh she is adorable poopie!!! She looks like SUCH a sweetheart! <3
Labrador x Ridgeback??

Ummmm... are you crazy?

Cats are intelligent enough to get the blind person to re-write their Last Will and Testament with the cat as sole beneficiary, then walk that blind-ass sucker infront of a bus... all the while watching calmly through their murderous slitty eyes.

The powers that be know this.

haha so true. Their intelligence is totally different to dogs, very much individuals.

I love bengals, but fear it'd get nabbed outside. Just don't feel my house is big enough for house cats.

^^

I am contractually obligated by the breeder that I purchased her from to to keep her indoors. If you bought a Bengal from a breeder more than likely there will be a contract and a few stipulations that you will need to uphold on your end and the breeder will have stipulations that they must keep on their end.

The nice things about cats is that they don't require tons of space. I don't know how big your house is, but more than likely you would have enough space for a kitty or two. :)

Same with our Siberian. Contract states that he must remain an indoor cat. Realistically, there's no way to check up on this, but we'd be reluctant to let him out on his own anyway. We let him out into the garden (had his vaccinations), but no further.

^haha so wait, what are they goin to do if you don't follow the contract? Come take your cat away? catnap her?

They could potentially take me to court (however unlikely since they live 7 hours away from me) and have the cat taken away from me due to breach of contract. Just like if the cat had become seriously ill or if the vet found a genetic defect in her, I could take the breeder to court (if it had to come to that) and they would have to give me a new kitten under the same contract.

I wouldn't let her out anyway, we don't live in an area that would be safe for her (we live on a busy road and there are woods all around our house with plenty of wildlife that could eat her) and I also have spent a good amount of money on her so far (actual purchase price plus several other expenses).

Keeping kitties indoors is quite common when purchasing purebred cats as is stipulations against declawing. I think breeders creating such requirements shows that they really do care for the welfare of animals that they breeding and the animals aren't just a paycheck.

Yah, I can see why breeders would be selective like that. There are some people who still care about that animal, and not just makin a buck. But, I'm sure with all this contract stuff, this certain breeder is probably on the higher end $$ wise.

Point being he/she's probably coming out better doing things this way as well...but, with this type of deal everyone wins so more power to them.

After seeing how my other cat reacted to forcibly being a house cat i would never have a cat that didn't have the option of going out. It caused severe behavioural problems in her and really I feel keeping her inside for a year was almost cruel on our part. We did offer her the chance to go out but for reasons I never quite understood she just wouldn't go outside in the house we lived in. We live in a 2 bed semi now with a cat flap and she can come and go as she pelases and she is a much happier healthier cat. I know all cats are different and some aren't arsed about going outside but you can't tell that when you first get them.

I agree with the idea that going outside should be optional for cats. I understand if you have an area is unsafe for cats to go out/might be eaten (whatever, that's almost anywhere in the US). Regardless, I'm all for outside-free kitties. I had an inside cat as a child and it was so sad (not that being inside was the only issue but I suspect it didn't help with him).

I had an inside/outdoor cat for a long while after that and it was perfectly healthy, loving and seemed super happy to have access to both EVEN WHEN IT WAS SNOWING (plus she's declawed - don't blame me we got her from a shelter ;)).

IP: Your kitties are GORGEOUS! How much care does their fur require? I would imagine you and the missus spend quite a bit of time grooming.

Tath: I love those kitty pics! It's so funny what cats get into. My cat (who just passed away this past summer :() loved to sleep in cloth bags that I would keep all my work crap in. It was so funny!
