SYDNEY — A derivative of morphine seems to be the new drug of choice for addicts on Sydney area streets.
Cape Breton Regional Police suspect two overdoses in as many months were linked to the abuse of the prescription painkiller hydromorphone, a news release issued on Friday said.

Over the past six months, police recovered 255 hydromorphone pills from residents which resulted in 11 trafficking charges.

"Awareness is the first step in addressing any problem," Police Chief Myles Burke said. "We really want the public to understand the potential danger that exists with hydromorphone abuse; it’s readily available, it’s potent and it creates a high level of dependence and possibility for abuse."

The force plans to step up enforcement efforts in hopes of eliminating the sources of distribution on the street. Anyone with a tip is encouraged to contact police or Crime Stoppers by calling 562-8477.

What a ridiculous article. 255 pills over the course of 6 months is enough to be called a "drug of choice". They clearly underestimate how many people are using opioids if they honestly believe this.

I think this is sydney Nova Scotia, Canada...Thats a small city.lol That actually might be a sign of a small problem.
Prolly just a change from the Oxycontin their used to finding.
