Bupe Suboxone/Buprenorphine FAQ and Megathread v.1; 2007 - 2010

Thanks for the responses guys. I don't qualify for the free suboxone because I stupidly signed up for some half-assed part-time employee insurance that covered $17.95 of a $2250 hospital bill. Anyway, he gave me the usual #60 8mg Suboxone and 60 Klonopin and told me to start tapering like Capt. Heroin said. Also, he added Wellbutrin SR to the mix because of its dopaminergenic action and it may ease the transition from Suboxone to full on sobriety. I might be able to go to him every 3 months or so, depending on my finances. Also, he said to call if I needed anything like a refill on my Klonopin in a month or some other withdrawal-related medication. Pretty much what I expected. He said a year was enough and that I probably need to get off of it anyway. Too bad though, because it is the only thing that really really helps with my depression. That's why I got started with the pain pills any damn way. I'm down to 8mg and already fiending like a motherfucker. Wish Methadone could be dispensed by a doc. I'd like that better, but I can't be chained to this town because I frequently leave town. Sigh. Thanks guys.

Good luck.

You can always cancel your current insurance, but it's a rule of thumb never to accept insurance from an employer unless it's actually good insurance. Get your trusty local Jew to help you decide what insurance policy is right for you! ;) (for the record I am not anti-semetic at all; Jews are great with insurance policies, this is a compliment)

If you can acquire any other benzodiazepines (lorazepam, alprazolam, diazepam, etc) these will help with cessating. I would save your benzos for cessating completely, or the largest drops (if you want to go from 8mg to 4mg, good time to use some) however make sure not to become dependent on benzos as well. I'm sure that's been advised to you before though, so I won't harp on it.

If you use your buprenorphine sublingually, you can also use 6/7's method to get more out of your dose. This would be my last piece of advice to help you out. This way, you can stretch your Suboxone even further. It's understandable to want to make it stretch, it sure isn't cheap.

Once again, feel free to post here with any questions/concerns you may have.

The Tired Hydro after Sub question

Swim is a little OCD, and has both checked the Mega Thread here as well as cross referenced using other references on the web.

But from personal experience, if Swim has been on Suboxone for 4 months at the ceiling level (32mgs) and recently has dropped down to 12 then down to 6-8 mgs(around a week or so), and for the past 48 hours has made the jump taking no subs, in at least another 2 days would they enjoy their hydro's or waste money at the pharmacy?

Sorry for beating this dead horse guys, just wanting to get more specific if possible.

More than likely a waste of money.

I say this because buprenorphine is a much more potent opiate. If you had tapered lower on it before 4 days of sobriety, then maybe.

Then again, some people metabolize drugs quicker than others.

I would say you could definitely feel the hydrocodone 4 days later, but it's not going to be like you have no opiate tolerance.

You say you checked the mega thread, why didn't you just post this question in there? Because...that is where this is merging off to now... ;)

One last final idea, now that this has been merged - your screen name is "recovering26", if you're trying to get clean, why not just stay on the suboxone, or not take any opiates all together? It's understandable if you have a small stash of hydrocodone you're going to use as a celebratory reward for quitting or w/e...there's a lot of difference between someone taking a few hydrocodones and someone buying a bag of heroin in terms of attempts at "one last use" of an opiate.

Do you want to get clean/stay clean? I would just stick with the Suboxone, but use lower doses of it, like 4mg/day, then 2mg/day. You will find more positive effects from these lower doses if your opiate tolerance has lowered. Some people might "need" 8mg, but there's no harm in trying out lower doses.

Hey I appreciate the info, sorry for posting in the wrong place, I am def a newbie to the site. So swim is looking at 96 hours before effects and then perhaps a week until money isn't wasted? Also, would feeling it be comparable to its effects before subs? I understand it wouldn't be similar to the VERY first time. Once again, I am sorry for asking questions I am sure have been answered b4,.

I see you noticed the blatant contradiction, and there is a method to my madness. It is equal parts, I am scared shitless of the W/D after reading horror stories here and elsewhere for a few days now, but partially selfish as well. I am in a situation for a last hurrah with a very temporary availability. Thanks for asking though, probably a stupid idea, but it gunna happen.

First welcome to bluelight. Second enough with the SWIM routine. We all know its you, its cool man. Saying SWIM isn't gonna help ya so bluelighters don't bother.

I'd say don't do it bro. Stay strong and just keep telling yourself that you'll do it tomorrow. Chances are the hydro won't feel the same but, no one can really tell you that. I've had good expiriences with oxy after using bupe in the same day. Then again I've had no feeling from oxy after using bupe a couple days before. Its not something you can easily predict but IMO if you are in full blown wd you have a better chance of catching a high. Peace

And another thing its never like the first time ever again!. Do yourself a favor and learn that. Chasing your first high or even your first few highs is the definition of a wild goose chase.

Thanks dude, did kinda feel like a dipshit. I will say I am surprised there are like no W/D's yet from the subs, and you're right I would kind of be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory, just hard finding a new way to chill out.

I hear ya dude. Boredom has gotten me a lot of times in the past. You know what will happen though. The cycle starts all over again.

I play video games, build shit, chase girls, and even come on here and just chill. Whatever you gotta do there's a lot of time to fill when you don't use anymore. Goodluck

On another note, good god, Subs actually do work for Heroin??? I think my doc put me on way to high a dose to start out with, like 24 MGS a day for a Vic/Hydro habit, you seemed to be suggesting 8? What kind of break down is there for starting points, e.g. Heroin maybe 16MGS, Oxys 12, dros 8 etc.... or is it just probably all over the place due to lack of study and incompentence?

It's unique for different people.

When I first started to quit heroin (mostly snorting), I only needed 6mg max a day. This quickly became 4mg.

I never needed a whole 8mg/day.

Others might have never used heroin, but might have needed more than me just because people are unique and the way they react to drugs is unique as well.

Fascinating stuff. I guess the consensus is that I am hooked again immediately even just once, so even though it will suck, I will take on the w/d balls to the wall. I at least know this beats the alternative

Whats with the green writing?:D

When I switch from Heroin to Subutex, I tend to use quite a lot on the first couple days (12-16mg), but then in less than a week bring it right down to around 4mg.

IME, its not 'till around the 1.5mg/day that I start getting WD in the morning before my dose.

I have been taking subs for about 4 months, and at a 8+ mg level. I am without for 48 hrs, when can I expect to start withdrawal?

When I'm quickly browsing through a thread I've moderated (either unapproved posts, merged threads into threads, etc) it is easier for me to see my text in my own font/color to distinguish it from the post of others.

Within 3 days of cessation. It could be sooner, could be later depending on you personally. I would feel withdrawal from buprenorphine at hour 12 since dosing. That is just me personally though, and I take 0.3mg at a time.

suboxone

so i'm not quite sure if this is the right forum but oh well.

i'm going to the doctor on either wednesday or friday to get put on suboxone. i've been using methadone for a few weeks to get off opiates, but i know once i run out of done i will be sick. and then i'll end up buying whatever i can get my hands on and restarting it..

i have a few questions about it though.. do i have to be clean from methadone, or any opiates before being put on suboxone?

does it go on your doctor record so i wont ever get opiates if needed later in life?

and does it kill pain at all? even a little bit? i get back pain and migranes ALL of the time.. and tylenol/aleve does not do ANYTHING except make me sick..

sorry if this is the wrong forum or already posted.. i just needed to know the answers to 3 questions.

People aren't kidding about that long suboxone half life, it has been about 52 hours and no withdrawals yet. I feel like I'm tied to the railroad tracks waiting for the locomotive to come around and turn me into a red spot, but it aint here yet at least.

Also when that train hits, is this also the spot to ask members about ways to lessen discomfort associated with suboxone paws?
