So i've heard people say that the police heat scan states to check for people growing cannabis. Is there any truth to this? Wouldn't they need a warrant?

you dont need a warrant for anything anymore. hell last i knew its ok for evidence gained thru illegal seizure to be used in court.

I'm pretty sure they only scout out larger operations and that you will be okay if u don't have the whole house lit up. Set up shop at a house next to an airport. Or put up foil/mylar on the ceiling.

They do this over my neighbourhood all the time, every few weeks theres a copter hovering above my area just chillin, it's gotta be scanning for something. Luckily it can only detect growers and not the smokers. <.< >.>

man cops dnt need wrrants and they sure dont care whether what they are doing is illegal or not. as long as they get a bust theyre happy. its funny how they say we are innocent until proven guilty. but it seems like we are guilty until proven innocent.

Actually, people don't use lead paint anymore. Sorry, dude. 8)

Frosty, thermal imaging was ruled illegal without a proper warrant in the United States for residential buildings. I don't have the link to the article because I have to find it within another forum, but it was the Supreme Court that heard the case.

Lets say the police were using a helicopter to do thermal imaging at night (best time to check elevated heat levels), and they found a few houses that were lit up. Before this evidence can be used, they need to be able to correlate something more substantial. ex. searching through the houses trash for any evidence, checking with the electrical company to see the houses energy use per day.

God help you of there is a CI that knows about your grow-op. Mylar doesn't prevent thermal imaging by the way. Keep things simple if your growing. Don't use more than 1000W per bedroom in the house. Don't throw trash outside in your trash can that can at all be connected to anything illegal. Use carbon filters. Don't tell anyone.

i recollect hearing of thermal imaging when i was a child like 6-7

also my brother and i had a discussion about it like 2 months ago, and skoat it is correct that its illegal now, but i think they might do it still regardless sometimes

if ur not on something big and arent in a are known for drug use/solicitation they prob wont just randomly scan your neighborhood

Yes, they do whatever they want regardless of the law. It's a fact that they have raided houses that the FLIR discovered, only to find out it was a water heater or some other non-growing heat related issue. Then the people have to sue the police for the damages they do during the raid. Rule #1, if they don't have a warrant do not even open the door. Then proceed to eliminate the grow room, they will be back.

People in my area are always talking about it, someone goes around perpetuating BS.

I would be interested in reading about thermal imagine being illegal. I recall a few police cars when I was younger having these devices on the top of their cars, for finding suspects who are hiding. I always assumed that all police helicopters had them equipped as well, not entirely for searching out grow-ops.

How does the heat scan find a plant outdoors? I have 2 seedlings in my backyard now, and I can't really move them outside my backyard but I plan to hide them when they get bigger somewhere where there's plants in my yard but I dunno what to do..

this should be a fairly easy ? to answer, wheres the customer service around here!

Welp story goes round these here parts:

Cannabis retains heat (like pine trees) Flir would noticed rows of these plantings. And regardless of its public or private land somthing out of the ordianry like rows of heat retaining plants would be probable cause of somthing illegal happening.

But.

What fucking county in the USA has the money for those kind of operations?

^ mine definatly does. Lets say a copter went over a forest and detected a patch of around 10 plants. how would the police handle it if the plants were on public property?
