Thanks mate :) Won't be painting much these days, split up with my writer boyfriend and am never dating another writer again (too many issues omg) I will paint occassionaly with one of my writer girlfriends when i see her though. Still love it though - it's just not where my passions lie. Glad i got taught how to do it though.

Oh hello there!! Good to see you round these parts again! :)

all my mates r pretty hard into the graff scene , prety much panels wholecars etc

dont really wana go throwin round crew names and such, though pretty well known
around melbourne

My lil sis knows a shitload of graffers in Melb. Some of em do those sweet art pieces; but mainly it's pointless tagging like '***skeeeee' '***oner'. One of her mates recently got chucked a $12,000 fine for graphing on a football ovals changeroom doors, lucky to escape the slammer :\

Some of it is really amazing. Some of it is pretty stupid.

I like seeing it on trains, to be honest, but only where they haven't been kept up and are in desperate need of a painting.

On buildings, I don't like it at all, and all of the arguments used in the first couple pages were really week.

Art is art, fine. We can say that grafitti is art, I won't disagree; some of it actually is. Most isn't, but I won't worry about this.

The whole "you're a drug user, drugs are illegal, so you can't criticize other illegal activity because it's illegal" is silly. You don't have to be perfectly straight to object to illegal activity. I would call the cops if I was robbed from.

Drug use does not generally hurt anyone. It's broadly considered a victimless crime.

Graffiti is not a victimless crime. Whoever owns the property is the victim. This is true whether it's a building, car, home, billboard, etc.

Second is the claim that it's okay to paint up a governmental building because we all pay the taxes that buy it. This is nonsense. Because you pay for something doesn't mean you can do whatever you want to it. It's the color it is for a reason. It's not as if the blank wall is somehow offensive and needs to be changed.

Some douche 15 year old tagged the building I live in, right on my part of it. I fuckin lost it. I got my sister to find out whos tag it was through all her mates. About two weeks later I got $100 in my letterbox. Bahahaha.

I was really angry though, it was some ugly scrawly writing, nothing nice just .. ridiculous.

lol yeh its a prick wen it happens to ya ,

my mate has had his cafe on chapel street bombed heaps

and hes even a writer (graffer) himself . bit of karma maybe ? lol

Orgasmic.

Lets not turn this into yet another "is graff art?". discussion. In 100 years, when you're 6 feet under, nobody cares.

I used to write that around Melbourne. Still chuck it up every now and again..

hahaha no shit!
it doesn't surprise me that the word 'elsd' clashes with a fellow bluelighters tag.
i don't get around much anymore.. usually do small things for friends or buffed walls under drains etc.

Cheers to those that welcomed me back... without the net at home for 6mths till recently and now have a job so have other stuff to do... i love this place though... :) I'd like to do some more graff but it hurts too much atm

^^ you should keep it up.. just be careful if your gonna go out vandalizing stuff because the australian graffiti laws are getting pretty tough these days...

there's nothing wrong with painting canvases and that either.

My x's mates (from his 'crew') just got jailed in the UK for it 8-16mths each. I don't do illegal shit. Never have and never will. I guess i'm just not "hardcore" enough and only appreciate the artistic value behind it. I'm far too old to be doing that shit really , besides i'm a mum so it's not worth the risk anyway.

I'll paint again....

any graf artists? need spray can advice

hey

ive got few sketches that i want to spray, can do decent sketches but no real experience with spray cans

i went and bought a selection of spray cans from a local record shop and came back home, tried to test them out with a simple design on my bedroom door but found that it was harder than it looked and much easier to sketch, so i need practise

just wondering if there are different nozzles u can get for the cans, when i spray up close the width of the outline is still too thick and i dont know how you could do any real detail if the narrowest line you can do is around 1 inch wide

any1 got any tips or techniques?

it's a long road of trial and error, man. nothing is set in stone. yes there are special caps. tons. so many it's ridiculous.
unless you're some strange type of prodigy, you're not going to be able to bust out your fancy looking sketches with cans right off the bat.

get good doing simple outlines with the stock caps, even if it is to thick for your taste. different brands=different caps.

experiment with different angles, spacing, speeds. be conscious of these things, you will learn faster. with stock caps, you're gonna wanna move fast, that's why you start simple.

practice tagging only first. then throwups. once you've mastered that, then move on to detailed stuff. i'm still at the throwup level with cans, and i still suck.:\ it helps to have a fat cap for doing fills quickly at this point.

look at this period of your graff career as the opportunity to let everyone know what's to come. everyone who is worth a shit has been there, and isn't gonna trip if you're stuff looks a little wack.

practice on a large piece of cardboard or plywood first. you don't want your shit looking completely bunk.

get up. stay up. have fun.

ah ok thanks for the tips man, i was a bit worried that it might be just me and that i was simply shit at it

i think i will have to practise on cardboard first cos i dont want to go around spraying shit in public if its going to look stupid!
