THE mother of a young man who died from a drugs overdose has called for a website that gives advice to ecstasy users to be shut down before more lives are lost.

Campaigner Sadie O’Reilly last night said she was shocked by the content of the online ‘guide’ for drug abuse.

The website is popular with users across the north, who post detailed reports on the quality of potentially deadly ecstasy tablets.

Some contributors even give a real-time running commentary as they experiment with taking pills.

According to the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency, between 1997 and 2007 a total of 27 people died after taking lethal doses of ecstasy, which is a class A drug.

But despite the obvious health risks, large numbers of people continue to dice with death on a regular basis.

It is not clear where the website is based but it has more than 15,000 reports in an extensive database posted by people across the globe, with a dedicated section for Ireland and Britain.

While many contributors use testing kits to check the quality of ecstasy tablets before they take them, others prefer to play Russian Roulette with their lives.

On St Patrick’s Day one user in Derry posted a detailed account of taking ‘lightning bolt’ pills.

It has emerged that a quantity of high-strength ecstasy tablets is circulating in the north west.

Known as ‘iron crosses’, they are in hot demand on the drug scene across Ireland and Britain.

One poster, who describes himself as coming from Derry/Donegal, claimed the drugs were part of a £1.5 million haul smuggled into the area by dealers two years ago.

Another claimed a fresh batch of pills was imported from Rotterdam more recently.

Derry-based Ms O’Reilly, who works for anti-drug charity Hurt (Have Your Tomorrows), said she was stunned by the content of the website, which The Irish News has decided not to name.

“I was shocked and I have seen a lot of things. My God, I just don’t know where this is going to end,’’ she said.

“As I read one report I had to won-der if this person is going to be alive the next day.

“I want to make it clear every drug is unsafe. I am calling for this website to be closed down straight away but I am concerned there may be others just like it.”

Ms O’Reilly’s 22-year-old son Tony died after taking a heroin overdose 10 years ago.

She warned that ecstasy and other substances can be a passport into a life hard drug abuse.

“People coming into us tell us [ecstasy tablets] are available for 50p. In fact they are so worthless they often give them away at parties. All drugs are dangerous and people should avoid them.”

"It's not clear where the website is based".

Sterling investigative reporting there from people who don't know how to do an IP lookup. Among the million other things wrong with this article.

From the link:
"STUNNED BY CONTENT: Anti-drugs campaigner Sadie O’Reilly with a picture of her son Tony, who died of a heroin overdose, has expressed deep concern over a website that gives advice to ecstasy users"

Well, if your son died of a heroin overdose, why are you pissed about ecstasy?

Does it even say what website this is?

Ohhhhhhhhh..... there's whiskey in the jerrrrrrrrrhhhh...

Fuck... my grandmother's from Ireland. Most depressed people in the world. Why do they drink so much? It might be self-medicating. I say give all them bog-jumpers some MDMA. They're right to bring attention to how unsafe E can be, but why vilify it? Standardize, control, regulate. What what?

Peace,
PL

EDIT: Oooooh! And the namocryn (not quite a name or an acronym) should be Hyort. Damn spudfuckers can't pronounce their english properly.

P.S.- I fully aware of the "self-loathing jew" as a stereotype, but isn't it a little prejudiced to not allow people of other heritages to be self-loathing too? Americans are damn self-loathing in general; I'm just trying to spread it to people of Irish descent.

Fairly certain this is Bluelight? Does sound like bluelight.

Why'd the decide not to name it?

Even more, her son died 10 years ago. LOL

^ I assumed it was Pillreports, doesn't matter anyway. This bitch is ignorant, maybe if her son had been given better advice than "drugs are all dangerous and evil, just don't take them" 10 years ago and been told some harm reduction he would still be alive.

27 people dead in a decade is "Dicing with death" there isn't many activities with a lower level of risk, driving, skiing, horse riding, drinking etc.

Any logical person could work out a site like that is going to steer people away from dodgy pills atleast, which is reducing harm and preventing more people dieing like her son but for some reason she wants to put more lives at risk.

Since smack killed her son anyway I don't know how she makes the connection with E's, I mean yes they are both drugs but thats about where the similarities end.

It's clearly PillReports, and they're not naming it so that it doesn't get publicity, I would imagine.

As far as I can tell she became a campaigner against all drugs after her son died. Sad, but ridiculous - as drug_mentor says, they're both drugs and that's the only real similarity (apart from both being illegal).

I wonder if the mother smokes tobacco. Her hormone replacement therapy is a risk for uterine cancer. How dangerous are the anti-depressants she takes? There is lot's of bad stuff out there and mostly it's legal and sold in your local pharmacy. It's better to keep the flow of information free so people can make informed decisions for themselves. Misguided emotional campaigns to control other people is the stuff of tyranny.

Shes probably taking paroxetine and diazepam while campaining about how dangerous those drugs are. I wouldnt fucking doubt it at all.

But despite the obvious health risks, large numbers of people continue to dice with death on a regular basis.

Yes i know alcohol is really dangerous but im trying my best to quit goddamnit! Oh wait they where talking about ecstasy? Since ive never taken ecstasy i should be ok then i guess i will only have to worry about liver failure, heart problems, my sometimes violent or suicidal behaviour killing someone else or me, etc. Damn glad ive never taken E though 8) .

Seriously is anyone finding this article as much of a joke as i am?

Man... last time I diced with death I took that bitch for all he was worth. Sucka! Seriously though... for serious.

Peace,
PL

exactly. it doesn't get much safer than that. i bet most if not all of those 27 deaths could have been prevented by proper information.

Her last statement was the real LOL for me.

“People coming into us tell us [ecstasy tablets] are available for 50p. In fact they are so worthless they often give them away at parties. All drugs are dangerous and people should avoid them.”

Riiiiiiiiight. FREE PILLS FOR EVERYONE!

/sarcasm

I'm sure some could, but the number is in a range you'd expect for a fairly non-toxic (non-fatal, rather) drug used by lots of people. Some will just be especially sensitive and die as a result. This is true for all sorts of drugs. Not many people die from taking an adderall or two, but a small handful will rapidly develop heart issues and die.

This bitch isn't shutting down shit. Anyone who attempts to put heroin and ecstasy in the same playing field is a tard. She'll go bankrupt paying for lawyers and court costs trying to get the site shut down before anything even happens.
