Mum pleads for pregnant girl's life in alleged heroin smuggling case

The mother of a pregnant Briton facing execution for allegedly smuggling heroin last night made an emotional appeal for her to be freed.

Jane Orobator wept as she spoke of her fears for 20-yearold Samantha who is due on trial today in Laos after the case was brought forward.

She said: "I'm so scared. I'm appealing to the Government, to the Laos authorities to just please release her. She hasn't got a legal representative."

Samantha is being held in notorious Phonthong prison where abuse is rife. She was arrested with 600g of the drug on her after a holiday in neighbouring Thailand.

The South Londoner became pregnant in jail.

Mum-of-four Jane, 40, who lives in Dublin, added: "I don't want to imagine how she is surviving in there. It's not even fit for animals.

"To become pregnant in a prison for women, something bad happened there."

oh my god this is so damm sad, i read this and just feel like crying, i went on utube to see any news reports and there are so many people commenting on how she should be shot etc, twenty yrs old, she is still a baby. i just cant get over the laws in some countries (even mine) but things like this make me glad i live in the states and not places like that, i will be praying for this girl (which i hardly do ) yes she made a really crazy decision to do this but to loose her life for this, my heart just goes out to her ashla

^ you wouldn't believe the similarities between witch trials and our drug trials...

to take a look at how sick our judicial system is, one merely needs to watch the first episode of lexx and see the metaphors

completely true.

pisses me off how a drug offense gives the same punishment (if not worse) than murdering somebody.

That is fucking sad. She will be executed though, just like everyone else there for the same offence. Their "justice" system will show her no more mercy than they have shown any others.

it's crazy and I feel bad for this bitch cuz I mean my guess is that she was raped in prison, and there is no way a prison in Thailand is easy time.
BUT, she WAS caught with 600g of H on her, that's straight smuggling and everyone knows that SEA countries have been fighting this loosing battle for years and have death penalty cases for drugs.

I guess the question is not whether we would like to see her get out just because it seems wrong but Should she get a dramaticly different penalty than others convicted of the same time because she isn't a native of Laos /Thailand | got pregnant | is a young girl.

I saw a documentary on HBO about this girl that was convicted of smuggling marajuana in Laos. I'm telling those prisons seem like there not a joke.

I've been to Laos, it is a beautiful country.
In EVERY tourist town you can find drugs. I got an ounce of ganja from a shop owner, drank a heavy banana/mango/opium shake at a bar WITH IT ON THE MENU, and was offered yaba on the streets. I visited a tribal village and they were growing ganja within view of where the visitors slept. I was only there a few days! Most of the westerners I saw there were monged out of their dome the entire time too.
Obviously smuggling is different, but in a place where a lot of the tourism is drug tourism, I think this is perverse, to say the least.
I wonder what a half k of good #4 goes for in Laos...?

this is really fucked up, especially the last part about getting raped.

i dont wanna be a daywrecker but it IS laos.. Things like the above dont usually work out too well. Who doesnt think she will face execution?

please don't execute my daughter so she can give birth to the rape child your crooked monster prison gaurds left with her....where the fuck to begin........ =(

^Same here! My best guess is she will still face a firing squad or whatever method they use to execute people in Laos. They *might* let her have the baby first, that is questionable even imho.

Yikes, that is some grim stuff. Drug laws and judicial systems in some of those southeast Asian countries are downright terrifying. In comparison the US, for all of its flaws, looks downright enlightened.

jesus... maybe her government could at least fund or back some kind of investigation into the kid.. do a dna test and pin the asshole.......... =( never gonna happen.... so fucked up..
