Other bluelight novelists?

Yah that's true, thank you. :) Someone once told me if you write a story you care about, love and are moved by then chances are a good group of the rest of the world out there is going to care about, be moved by and love your story too. Maybe not everyone, but the ones that will are the ones I want to reach. <3

Planning something right now. Figuring out how to organize structure, and stuff... but I have a world invisioned, a few characters, plot points and themes to discuss, as well as as far as I know a new crossbreed genre, and a focus with examing human culture: birth, life, and death of culture/civilization/society.

I have the words in my head, the drugs to dream the rocketsauce, and I'm am getting hungry with motivation.

I think I need to set some goals and giver.

It's my first time around these parts, but are there any updates as to how the books are coming along? I would be interested in seeing how these turned out.

Yeah, at some point. Thanks! :) I am re-working and changing a lot of the stuff from chapter 4 onward now, because I decided some things were not working and I basically changed the entire life story of 2 of the characters. lol, sometimes I wonder if it's EVER going to be done.

HI Deja,

Good luck with your book! I changed around a lot in my first novella. I tried to get an agent and got a total of 15 rejections before I decided to self publish. It's kinda cool even though I won't make much on my book. I designed a cover and all, and I have a cool book sitting on my shelf with my name on it. Because of school, I have not had the chance to market it, but if you decide to self publish, give me a shout and I can give you some pointers. It should be the last effort to see your name on a bound book, though. I hope you get REALLY published! Good luck!

What is your book about Lysis? Have you only published a handful of copies, or do you have the rest sitting around in storage until you get the chance to market them?

I really admire all of you who can put in the dedication to write a whole book. I think the most I could ever manage would be a short story.

Good luck on all your writings!

Thanks! :) There are a lot of debates on self publishing in the writing community.. it seems a lot of people think that it's dooming your career, and that most publishers wont ever publish an author who has been self pubished (don't know why, or if that's true, it doesn't make sense to me but I'm a beginner in the industry). I've heard others say considering self publishing would be a really good idea, especially if you are very independent and don't like to have agents or other people try and tell you things about your craft (*such as how to alter it to make it more marketable*) and want to be in complete control.

What happens after you self publish? Do you have to go to bookstores and libraries and things yourself and try and sell your book? What are the steps for "getting it out there"?

^Self-publishing is a surefire way to kill your writing career. Is your novel something that can be serialized or broken up into smaller, "self-contained" segments? If so, the small presses, and even the so-called "micro-presses", might be something to look into. From there, you can eventually "compile" your book and shoot for a bigger publisher.

Just a thought :)

I'm about 12 pages into a short story that is rapidly turning into a novel or at least a novella. I've planned out the entire thing, only been writing it for a couple of days. It's pouring out of me.

here is a link addressing poetry self-publishing:

That was very useful and I don't think it just pertains to poetry. It makes a lot of really interesting points. I found the sections on 'Vanity Publishing' particularly interesting.

Thanks.

I wrote short stories every time I enter a psychiatric hospital. I have about 12 stories from various facilities and and parks.

I tried writing a novel in the style of Dostoyevsky. Finished like 6 chapters and got bored. I hadn't really made up a story beforehand, just sort of made it all up as I wrote. The theme was drugs, philosophy and the like. In Swedish though.
