Words That Have Changed You.

Three passions have governed my life:
The longings for love, the search for knowledge,
And unbearable pity for the suffering of [humankind].

Love brings ecstasy and relieves loneliness.
In the union of love I have seen
In a mystic miniature the prefiguring vision
Of the heavens that saints and poets have imagined.

With equal passion I have sought knowledge.
I have wished to understand the hearts of [people].
I have wished to know why the stars shine.

Love and knowledge led upwards to the heavens,
But always pity brought me back to earth;
Cries of pain reverberated in my heart
Of children in famine, of victims tortured
And of old people left helpless.
I long to alleviate the evil, but I cannot,
And I too suffer.

This has been my life; I found it worth living.

Diamonds- this is beautiful- who wrote it??

diamonds...that reminds of some words/quotes I find fitting to my life.

Cordell: Smoking'll kill you, brü.
Archer: Ah... only if I live, right?

Commander Zero: Maybe we just kill you and take away what you bring (lapses into Creole).
Archer: Then you get one more dead body, instead of aeroplane way-full with grenade launchers!
Archer: So I think I'm gon' go to dem government! Dem government, at least dey gon' pay me!
Commander Zero: Wait, wait, my friend. Here is what you want. (Takes out a can full of diamonds) So many, I don't know what do with them all. Hey Archer! Next time, you bring a satellite TV, eh? I want see Baywatch!
Archer: Ja ja.

know how to play hand, keep cool, and fuck fear.

Rudyard Kipling - If.

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with triumph and disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breath a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on";

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings - nor lose the common touch;
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run -
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it.

I absolutely love this. Thank you. :)

kipling...here is another by him, means alot to me.

I went into a public-'ouse to get a pint o' beer,
The publican 'e up an' sez, "We serve no red-coats here."
The girls be'ind the bar they laughed an' giggled fit to die,
I outs into the street again an' to myself sez I:
O it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, go away";
But it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play,
The band begins to play, my boys, the band begins to play,
O it's "Thank you, Mister Atkins", when the band begins to play.

I went into a theatre as sober as could be,
They gave a drunk civilian room, but 'adn't none for me;
They sent me to the gallery or round the music-'alls,
But when it comes to fightin', Lord! they'll shove me in the stalls!
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, wait outside";
But it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide,
The troopship's on the tide, my boys, the troopship's on the tide,
O it's "Special train for Atkins" when the trooper's on the tide.

Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap;
An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit
Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit.
Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?"
But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll,
The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll,
O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll.

We aren't no thin red 'eroes, nor we aren't no blackguards too,
But single men in barricks, most remarkable like you;
An' if sometimes our conduck isn't all your fancy paints,
Why, single men in barricks don't grow into plaster saints;
While it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, fall be'ind",
But it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind,
There's trouble in the wind, my boys, there's trouble in the wind,
O it's "Please to walk in front, sir", when there's trouble in the wind.

You talk o' better food for us, an' schools, an' fires, an' all:
We'll wait for extry rations if you treat us rational.
Don't mess about the cook-room slops, but prove it to our face
The Widow's Uniform is not the soldier-man's disgrace.
For it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Chuck him out, the brute!"
But it's "Saviour of 'is country" when the guns begin to shoot;
An' it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' anything you please;
An' Tommy ain't a bloomin' fool -- you bet that Tommy sees!

fathers words... 8) let's see:

anorexia:
"eating disorders are bullshit, if you had just decided to become a soccer player instead of a gymnast I would be saving thousands a year and your mother wouldn't be so upset all the time"
"over-exercising? that's bullshit. we're having friends over this evening and it's an adult and intellectual affair... three or four hours should be sufficient, you can find stuff to do there"
"would you stop losing weight for fuck's sake? it's making your mother look bad, stand over there so she doesn't look so large in comparison"

in regards to meth:
"meth addiction? what the fuck is that? you're addicted to shoving bleach up your nose? that just means you're insane, not a drug addict"
"meth makes you not hungry and that's why you like it? you have a credit card, save yourself some money and go order some illegally imported diet pills on the internet like the rest of your friends"
"what the fuck goes on in meth detox? you want to see a REAL drug addiction? go call your brother and he'll tell you what it's like to actually be addicted to a drug [heroin] and what real withdrawal feels like"

and my two personal favorites:
"you like your therapist now huh? well if you don't finish those potatoes I'll switch you to getting treated with some fat uncertified fraud, see how much you enjoy therapy then”
"your weight has dropped below what we chose was the minimum, so therefore I'm having you removed from our medical insurance policy” me: “so basically I can’t get treatment for eating anymore… because I obviously need treatment for eating?” his response: “I guess you could look at it that way, however I chose to see it differently”

While none of it wise and most sent me into crying fits, I’ve now managed to get into the spirit of seeing them as some ignorant and openly idiotic humor 8)

Your father and my stepfather would make great buddies.:(

"You say you want to be closer to me, but everyday that you talk bad about me and put me down you're pushing me further and further away from you. One day, you'll push me out the door."-Me,on my relationship with my "stepfather" Rick

"Rather be dead than cool."-Kurt Cobain

"I think you need to hit rock bottom before you make a decision about what you're going to do in the future."-Courtney Love

"Are you there?! Are you fucking anywhere?! Are you an angel now?! Fuck you."- Courtney Love, laying in Kurt Cobain's blood after his suicide

"He's not going to get away from me that easily.I'll follow him through hell."-Courtney Love(after kurt's suicide attempt in Rome, a month before his actual death)

"Cocaine is like really evil coffee!"- Courtney Love(i love this one! thought you BL'ers would appreshiate this! LOL!)

"Don't read my diary. Ok, I'm going to work now. When you wake up read my diary, look through my things, and figure me out."-Kurt Cobain

“It is not heroin or cocaine that makes one an addict, it is the need to escape from a harsh reality. There are more television addicts, more baseball and football addicts, more movie addicts, and certainly more alcohol addicts in this country than there are narcotics addicts.”-Shirley Chisholm

And last but definately not least...

"I wish I was like you, easily amuzed.-Kurt Cobain

The last one brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear him sing it, because thats how I feel about my addiction to heroin. I WISH I could just be amuzed and happy with all the dumb lil things in life that 'normal" people are amuzed by.:\

Sorry for all the Kurt and Courtney quotes, I just think that despite all their problems, they are/were intelligent people.;)

Did you ever go to Numbers??? I used to go there from like 15-17.....
:) oh man......... It was fun but now I look back and have to laugh........so goth.

Omygod yes! We were probably hung around there about the same time... remember nickel beer night? =D

Did you ever go to Lola's? That was my home away from home. Funny how smoking cigarettes is now prohibited in the bar, while people are consuming every illicit substance known to man in the darkness of the corners... :D

And now you're in Washington State, eh? I just moved back to Texas from Seattle last summer!

No- never went to Lola's........Well- I may have? I was usually so far gone:) who knows.
Maybe we did go about the same time.......did you live in Houston?
I lived outside of Houston but spent alot of time in Houston. :)

Yeah, I grew up up north near The Woodlands, but moved into the city at 19. Lived in Houston for many years, before I finally escaped....

H-Town is a dirty, humid, polluted, mosquito-infested, crime-ridden, hellhole full of shallow, money-obsessed people, and I don't care if I never go there again.

It holds a special place in my heart. <3 ;)

“The grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.””

"I only went out for a walk and finally concluded to stay out till sundown, for going out, I found, was really going in. "

"Contemplating the lace-like fabric of streams outspread over the mountains, we are reminded that everything is flowing - going somewhere, animals and so-called lifeless rocks as well as water. Thus the snow flows fast or slow in grand beauty-making glaciers and avalanches; the air in majestic floods carrying minerals, plant leaves, seeds, spores, with streams of music and fragrance; water streams carrying rocks both in solution and in the form of mud particles, sand, pebbles, and boulders. Rocks flow from volcanoes like water from springs, and animals flock together and flow in currents modified by stepping, leaping, gliding, flying, swimming, etc. While the stars go streaming through space pulsed on and on forever like blood globules in Nature's warm heart."
