LA student asked to buy pot as part of sting

LOS ANGELES—Three middle school administrators are under police investigation after one of them allegedly asked a boy to buy marijuana as part of an informal sting operation against another student, officials said Wednesday.

The official who orchestrated the scheme at Porter Middle School was reassigned to administrative duties off campus, along with two other administrators who knew about the plan, said police Deputy Chief Michel Moore.

One of the officials at the Granada Hills school allegedly asked a 12-year-old student to buy a small amount of marijuana from another student on Feb. 18 in an effort to frame the 14-year-old dealer, Moore said.

The student successfully bought the marijuana, and the administrators reported the incident to authorities. But since it is a felony to ask a minor to buy drugs, a case against the school officials has been presented to the district attorney. Moore said they could be charged with child endangerment and using a minor to transport narcotics.

"We wouldn't expect an administrator to act this way with a student," Moore said.

In a letter to parents, Superintendent Ramon Cortines said the school's principal, an assistant principal and dean had been removed.

The 14-year-old has not been arrested but investigators want to know how he got the drugs, Moore said.

The Los Angeles school district will seek all legal measures against the officials if the allegations are true, said David Holmquist, the district's chief operating officer.

"This activity is completely unacceptable," he said. "It could lead to possible termination. We're asking parents to let law enforcement officials know if they are aware of other incidents."

lol the stoopid school admins thought they were doing something "Good" and end up getting the charges stuck on themselves. lol i wish this happened to every snitch ass bitch

that is going too far. what right do they have entraping middle schoolers?

isn't it entrapment to ask for someone to do a crime without their knowing you're a cop?

or is it that person's responsibility to ask the cop, "are you a cop?", then if he/she says no, and continues on with the plan, that is entrapment?

No. Cops do not have to tell you they are cops and its not entrapment if they don't. I have no idea how this myth got started but it is so widespread amongst the drug-using community its just sad.

I don't know how it got started, but it reminds me of the myth that cops won't do a drug if they're pressured into it. Not true.

^^^ I think you meant it is invalid, as in, it is NOT a valid defense, meaning the cop was within his rights to deny being a cop, and the arrestand prosecution are legit and you will be convicted. Right?

If cops couldn't say "no" when asked if they are cops, their job would be impossible.

I was watching Gangland and one of the ATF agents was involved as an undercover for a biker gang, I can't remember which one, but he said the only way they are allowed to do drugs (legally) is if there life is on the line, otherwise they are supposed to pass it up or pretend to do it.

Entrapment is getting someone to do something they wouldn't normally do. If they would normally sell drugs, then getting them to sell drugs to you, as a cop, lying to get them to do so, isn't entrapment.

There was a case that went to the supreme court that defined this really well. There was some farmer that for years the police sent him catalogues of child porn. After 5 years or so, he decided to order from them. There was no evidence that he was actually buying child porn from other places. It was decided that this was indeed entrapment.

Aussie cops can plow into drugs if there undercover. They pretty much are criminals when undercover

It would be entrapment if they tried to charge the kid they got to buy the pot, but probably not the kid that sold it. Its still really wrong for school administrators to resort to vigilante style practices though.

I'm all for pot legalization, but 14 is probably too young to be smoking anything

Also, cops don't have to tell you that they're cops, at least in the U.S. despite what urban legends may say. The whole "a cop can't lie about being a cop" thing was probably spread by cops in the first place

Lots of crazy shit teachers get caught for these days. Im sure a lot of this same behavior went on several years before but people weren't sloppy in covering it up at that time probably.

Haha yeah, like that undercover cop on the tv show the other day 'gangs of oz'. He was talking about how he had to sleep with this prostitute so he didn't look suspicious but he really didn't want to and really regretted it....haha ;).
