Pet Peeves

It is inhumane, in my opinion, to force people who have a genuine medical need for coffee to wait in line behind people who apparently view it as some kind of recreational activity. I bet this kind of thing does not happen to heroin addicts. I bet that when serious heroin addicts go to purchase their heroin, they do not tolerate waiting in line while some dilettante in front of them orders a hazelnut smack-a-cino with cinnamon sprinkles.

=D=D haha I love that quote.

I am going to bump a previous pet peeve about deliberate misspellings and incorrect grammar. Sometimes I cannot tell what people are even saying. What the hell is this --

"I can has new hurrs." (said by an unnamed Bluelighter).

I think she was referring to her new haircut. But, that is pretty bad. "I can has" ????

Even those who do not know how to write still do not put consecutive verbs in a sentence.

I woke up in a bad mood today. I have a lot of pet peeves on my mind. I think I'll dole them out periodically today.

I've said (typed) "I can haz..." once, ONCE, and it felt so very wrong.
I felt dirty.

:D

Good. That dirty feeling is your brain telling you, "Speaking like you are uneducated and retarded is not clever or cute." :)

Pet peeve --

Misuse of the word "acronym." If you do not pronounce the letters as a WORD, is is NOT AN ACRONYM!

Examples of things that are NOT acronmys --

FBI, CIA, DEA, SEC, etc. Those are initialisms, but not acronyms.

Examples of acronmys (Each letter stands for something, but these are all pronounced as a WORD instead of saying the actual letters) -- NATO, OPEC, AIDS, ADIDAS, SCUBA, etc.

Note that the acronyms are also initialisms. All acronyms are initialisms, but not all initialisms are acronyms.

The word "abbreviation" is best use for shortening a word or series of words, such as "min." "max." and "Dept. of Ed."

When someone makes me a pre-made dinner on a plate and plops the desert right on top of the gravy or any kind of edible that goes horrible with sweet food. Deserts need to be served on a separate dish!!!

I think MazDan put it very well once:

The lounge (...), unfortunately its been allowed over many years to become a haven for many people to become what they themselves actually despise in the real world.

It's all about being cool and fitting in for them. The cool kids say things like "I can has new hurrs," and nerd like us get made fun of for being grammar Nazis and taking threads too literally.

/pedant

technically ADIDAS is a truncated portmanteau, not an acronym.

It's the founder's first name, with the first three letters of his last name:

Adolf ("Adi") Dassler --> Adidas

The more you know!

In the case of the sneaker company, yes, it is a truncated form of portmantesu.

But it also can be an acronym for All Day I Dream About Sex. :)

Ya know, at first, I found that " I can has" phrase amusing. After seeing it 50000 times, it makes me do this:

PS . I never found that "I can has" cat funny. The very first time I saw it, I was like....eeew :(

How ridiculously overpriced clothing is....

And really bitchy salesgirls at expensive stores (not Target, where they are trying to chargre $175 for a pair of jeans) who do not do their job, and who act like it's a privelege for you to be shopping in the the store and to get to speak to them... I especially cannot stand it when I am walking around with a bunch of clothes and no one offers to open me a dressing room, or I'm obviously looking for help and they are talking on their phone/to each other, or I ask a question and they act like I should know the anwser...

If you are going to charge me a ridiculous amount of money for a bunch of fabric cut and sewn together, at least have the courtesy to have good customer service in doing so... and, I have worked in sales, and I would definitely not consider being a sales associate to be high up on the ladder as far as jobs go, so do not act so goddamn snobby 8)

Take solace in the fact that most people who act like that and are employed in 'high-end' clothing stores are miserable. I once knew a fellow who worked (and AFAIK still works at) Holt Renfrew, and he said that 80% of the people that work there are miserable, and the other 20% were over-entitled bitches.

When I just finished doing all my laundry and then I find my favorite shirt, or the pants I was planning on wearing the next day, underneath my bed still dirty :\ sucks!
