OK, I'm sure I'm gonna get berated for this and told to go to the doctor. But here goes:

I IM'd some K two weeks ago. It was crystal, but I used an autoclaved vial, new rigs, micron filter, sterile saline, and all. One place in my quad muscle is fucking killing me, and I'm pretty sure it's a bacterial infection.

Someone gave me #20 100mg Doxcycline capsules that are brand new.... will these be effective/safe to take?

My childhood best friend is an MD, but I can't get him on the phone, and anyway I prefer not to ask him drug-related questions.

Someone please answer if you have any idea. My thigh hurts! :(

Dude, careful

antibiotics are notoriously hard to dose oneself. There are so many factors. Also you don't want to mess up your responses to them (in case you get sick in the future and REALLY need them).

I really am going to go ahead and do what you thought I'd do and suggest you go to the doctor and get her advice.

You shouldn't go taking antibiotics arbitrarily. First, it's important to get the right dose and cycle. Second, you don't know if the bacterium is resistant against that certain antibiotic. Third, if you take antibiotics within an incorrect cycle, you are allowing for drug resistance which can be a nasty thing when you get another bacterial infection.

You don't know what bacterial infection you have, although it's probably strept or staph, but you should have the infection diagnosed properly.

Doxycycline is among the antibiotics that gets dangerous when its past its expiration date. Doctors prescribe antibiotics by knowing what the infectious agent is or having a reasonable guess. If its serious enough to acquire antibiotics on ones own it is serious enough to have looked at by a physician.

Doxycycline is broad spectrum and potent, you have some chance self treatment would work and not make your self sick, but your chances will increase a lot if you get an expert involved.

I took doxicycline for about 3 weeks to cure a vaginal infection and the side effects really fucked with me. It made me go into convulsions and vomit for the first 4 days, but still made me nauseous and dizzy for the remainder of the time taking it. Idk maybe I had allergies to it or something. Don't know if this info helps very much but I hope so! Cheers

Well, I didn't take the antibiotics cuz of everyone's advice.....

Finally got hold of my doctor friend and he was in a big hurry between surgeries, but told me that the problem was not so much that my body would potentially build resistance to unnecessary antibiotics or anything, but that they in all likelihood would simply be completely ineffective.
He was too rushed to explain further, but question answered.

My medical bacteriology professor would pull his hair out if he saw this doctor's response. HAHAHAHAHA

On our exams, there's always one question that has the answer of "Tell the doctor he needs to do proper diagnosis before prescribing antibiotics as a solution." LOL
