it takes a right mood. very patient film. turn up the volume. it's the sound that make the biggest impact imo.

as i said in the first post, this film is mindblowing on psychs.

i've been living with my wife for close to three years now, and she still hasn't seen it, and i have two copies.

Well put. The sound totally makes the movie. This is the only movie that has been able to unsettle me in broad daylight.

Absolute genius. The only other film to totally inhabit a believable dream-like reality is Werner Herzogs film Heart of Glass.:)

finally gave my wife her first viewing. she liked it. she liked the style and tricks, but she thought the story was pointless.

i loved every second. very disturbing. i <3<3<3<3<3 the way he manages to convey a timeless music brainbug. the organ solo looping is sharp.

I suppose I should give this another go. I used to own a copy (later sold for 50p at a car boot sale) and watched it two or three times after being blown away by Mulholland Drive.

Sadly, I never really found Eraserhead accessible - neither in it's message or its style. I found it clunky, awkward and intentionally obscure. Of course, its defenders tend to argue that it's these qualities that are the reason for its brilliance and, indeed, the whole point of the film. However, despite enjoying the more challenging of films and having patience for the most convoluted and spaghetti-like directorial messages, I seem to recall constantly thinking to myself, "for God's sake man, just spit it out.... say what you want to say!"

Mabe I'll download a copy and give it another chance.

see that's where you're going wrong, man. it's the emotion that is the message. lynch films are more about how they make you feel. i mean, seriously, wtf was inland empire about?

Hmmmm. I'm not sure that's enough for a film. For me, it left me feeling confused, frustrated and mildly annoyed. I'm not convinced that emotional response is what the film is about. I've felt the same range of emotions from other films, so it's certainly not unique in its ability to elicit that particular response.

As such, a film needs to do more than provoke a response, it needs to also have some degree of plot or linearity - and by linearity, I don't mean that it's necessarily straightforward, but it must have some connection between scenes - otherwise, it's just a random collection of clips with the same people in.

It must tell a story - even in the loosest sense - yet balance it with an emotional content... and that's where Eraserhead lost me. There's a story in there, but it doesn't make any sense. Most films these days have bags of story and little emotional provocation. This one suffers from the opposite.

Not seen it yet. Just added it to uTorrent list.
