The travel thread

yeah thats what i was thinking, will probs take the plane. its with tam airlines although i think we can fly with vairg too, not sure what safety is like on domestic flights in south america these days hehe, all part of the buzz though i guess :P

wudnt have thought brazil is as dangerous as most south american countries what ya think

Fuck the flight the real experience will be on the bus. You might even get chatting to some interesting locals and see some cool stuff, you'll not see much from the plane window that you haven't seen on every other flight in your life.

Aye, i'm sure RA's Brazillian is top notch!!!

You generally see fuck all on buses, i'd rather have the extra time at my destination. Plus long bus journey's fuck you up, so you end up being tired when you get to your destination and missing out even more.

Lots of people speak English the world over Kid. Also they don't speak Brazilian you tit they speak Portugese. ;)

You generally see fuck all on buses? Pffft bollocks. You see more on bus / trains than you do on flights. The train and bus journeys on my trip round Europe despite being long and tiring were epic, the scenery was outstanding and you got a lovely glimpse of the countryside. Plus despite being in a foreign country and not knowing the local language I still managed to talk to loads of locals. I even helped some cigarette smugglers package their goods up and throw them out the train windows.

Yep, you try speaking your standard Portugese in Brazil and see how far you get.

Aye, great scenery when it gets dark. Trains are better than buses as you generally do get to see more.

I wish i'd seen you chatting to the locals who couldn't speak any English. :) Are you sure they couldn't speak English...maybe they were just pretending. ;)

You do realise that Brazilian Portugese is now the offical Portugese language? :)

To avoid the darkness then take a day bus / train.

I never said the locals couldn't speak English, I said I didn't know their language but we still managed to communicate either because they knew English (despite it often being limited) or we just gestured worked things out. It's amazing what you can pick up from each other. My point was English is spoken the world over and a lot of people know it.

Hahha, you muppet! :)

You waste even more valuable time that way. Plus, journey's on buses in Europe are are lot different to those in developing countries.

You'd be surprised how little English is spoken by poor people in developing countries, Spadey.

The bus takes 6hrs.

If you are flying you need to travel to the airport, be there 2/3hrs before, then you've got whatever the flight time is, then you need to get through customs and pick up your bags then leave the airport and travel to the destination. I think that'd take 6hrs easily so taking the bus seems like a good idea to me. All that sitting around in airports is shite!

Generally domestic flights are 45min check in. A 6 hour bus journey in Brazil is prob the same as a 60 min flight.

Plus you meet loads of crazy locals in the newspaper shops in airport. I once had a great time with some folk, even though I didn't speak the local language. I even helped some newspaper smugglers package up their papers once.:p

Spent last winter working in Sao Paulo, that place is a pure headfuck, amazing city.

Not sure I would want to go back though, but it def has to be experienced.

Footy games at the Morumbi are amazing, even when its a quarter full the atmosphere is better than anything you find at an English ground.

just found out i need allsorts of fucking injections and i have a massive needle phobia
does anyone know if they will be IV or intra muscular, i think ill be able to handle a IM injection much easier than a IV

bollocks

trust me, the injections are fuck all to worry about. i had to get 10 different types of things done before going to angola, and most of them were combinations in the same needles, i only had to get about 5 injections, all in the same day. i barely felt a thing, the worst thing was the pain in the arms for a couple of days afterwards.

i *think* they were intramuscular, but i could be wrong. upper arm anyway. :)

i'm sure you're no stranger to having a wee prick inside you, RA. %)

When does your AK47 training start Felix? Might be an idea to get the practice is now so you can mow down some of them hard hitting kidnapping mofos!
