Are you a stoner?

What up?

Im just sitting back and considering the meaning of the word stoner after being caled it by a close friend of mine. It made me realise that although all 'stoners' smoke weed, not all weed smokers, to me anyway, qualify as stoners. They seem to fit a certain description. Like Saul from Pineapple Express. I wouldnt call Snoop Dogg or Method Man stoners even though they both smoke weed. I guess my question is 'What is your definition of a stoner and are you one?'

I'm a stoner...my definition of a stoner is somebody that smokes pretty regularly. Somebody that smokes at least a few times a week imo.

Saul from Pineapple Express is more of a stereotypical stoner...but yeah i'd say a stoner is anybody who smokes pretty often.
 
I dont call myself a stoner, although I get "stoned". I think stoner is a derogatory term, and most of the time said by non smokers. The people I know that smoke weed dont fit the stereotype of "stoner" as seen in movies.
 
Idk, I'm just a druggie in general.

I smoked occasionally in school which got me the title of a stoner....
 
I've always seen "Stoner" as a derogatory term, too. Mainly to do with lethargy and wastefullness. Shit, I love to get whacked out of my mind during the day, if i can, but it's mostly at night, with friends, where we actually have a good time, even then, it's no more than once a week.
This, compared to using it as an escape from the world, or a way of accelerating time :P

I've known a few people that fit the derogatory term perfectly, that essentially did nothing throughout highschool, save for get fucked up, their grades matched their attitude.

Personally, i'd say no. I enjoy using the substance, but i don't abuse it :)
 
I take pride in being a stoner, I am in love with smoking weed just like some people love alcohol and actually pay money for the memoribilia and take pride in being a pisshead. If you take offence to being called a stoner or being grouped into the stereotypical "dumb jobless stoner" category you shouldn't be smoking to begin with.

The first part i can understand, the last made no sense at all?

So, i shouldn't enjoy a natural plant, because of the ignorance of others? *pulls collar*
 
I've certainly been a stoner last year and starting off this year...This first semester of college has been brutal. I didn't think I'd ever smoke that much, but it's hard not to when everyone you hang out with is a hardcore smoker and you're the vape guy. I need to get back to smoking once a week at most. It's not really that fun anymore, I'm just doing it out of boredom, because it's much easier to inhale that sweet sweet vape mist than actually put effort into entertaining myself.
 
I agree with the stoner being a derogatory term fully. All the atributes of a stereotypical stoner are things that I generally try to avoid, i.e. smoking all day everyday, to cure boredom or because its the only thing on my mind and alowing it to become my number 1 priority ect. Having said that, I dont think that I look like a typical stoner either.

I'm neither dumb nor jobless, and would take offense if someone assumed either of those things about me. Frankly, pot smokers who celebrate ignorance and laziness are the reason those of us who ARE functional have to keep our use on the down low.

I probably come across as a stoner. Demeanour + stupidly long hair + constant stench of weed.

I'd call anyone who <3 weed and smokes fairly reguarly a stoner.

This is a perfect example of why people think the term stoner is derogatory.

I only use the term stoner in a lighthearted making fun of kind of way. Like when someone trys to take a bong hit upside down and just ends up coughing for 3 minutes straight. That person usually becomes the designated "stoner" for the smoking session.

Double Ewe here hit the nail on the head.

Whenever someone I associate with(work-related and non-work related) that doesn't know that I smoke pot finds out, they either:

A) Can't believe that "someone like me" would smoke pot and are cool with it.

B) Don't understand it and look at me like you would your stereotypical stoner.

C) Smoke herb too.

I function just fine, I hold down a job, and I am a contributing member of society. So what if I like to get high?

At least I'm not sitting on the couch with a bag of Cheetos, trying to synchronize Phish albums with SpongeBob Squarepants re-runs.

yea usually people jsut use the term "stoner" or "pothead" as a xenophobic response to people smokign weed. i used to be like pretty nerdy in the sense i was very inteligent. i was also one of the first kids in ym grade to start to smoke herb. after i started alot of people who found out would jsut be like omg hes changed. in reality i hadnt changed at all people were jsut convinved tht after smokign i would turn into some lazy ass retarded fat stoner. didnt happen! i still have a very high gpa and am much mreo succesful academically and in life in general than the peopl who are so quick to judge me. labeling me a stoenr somehow made them feel better than me and invalidate anythign i did positive. can someone make a term with a POSITIVE connotation for people who smoke alot of marijuana? haha. on one forum i used to be on somone used the term "chemical conessuier" for his obsession with psychedelics, rc's and basically every other psychoactive on earth.

Me definition of a stoner is a person who uses cannabis to achieve a mental state other than the one he starts the day off with naturally

wow.. this statement is totally fukt... it would be like telling someone if they enjoy drinking that they should be put into the "alcoholic, wife beating" category..


Yes.. I'm a stoner.. i'll say im a stoner.. but if someone was to ask if i was a stoner.. i would take it in a derogatory manner.. because most people who ask if you're a "stoner" are usually attacking you by using that word.. i would much prefer if someone asked if i smoked marijuana... im not a fan of the word "dope" either.. i find it very derogatory
 
I don't think anyone who saw me would think I was a stoner. I guess I am one, I do lots of stereotypical stoner things, but I go to the gym, go to university, and have a job, so you could say i've got a stoner alter-ego :D
