Spice Revealed to Contain JWH-018

So what was this stuff, like that 'legal budz' shit they sell in hightimes ads? Wonder if theres anything weird like that in those..

There is also this news article that showed up on the EROWID spice product page that claims the border control found HU-210 in Spice and such:

WILMINGTON — Customs agents at the DHL airline hub have seized more than 100 pounds of herbal incense found to contain a powerful, synthetic version of the active ingredient in marijuana, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection office said Thursday, Jan. 15.

On Nov. 20, customs officers and agriculture specialists examined two arriving shipments from the Czech Republic that were labeled "herbal incense."

One carton contained numerous pouches labeled "Space Diamond" and "Spice Artic Energy." One package said: "Enjoy Genie blend! Release the magic of the enchanting potpourri aroma." The material is labeled as not for sale in the U.S.

It's the first time customs agents have found this product in the Midwest. As yet, there have been no arrests, said spokesman Brett Sturgeon.

Tests for THC — the active ingredient in marijuana — proved negative. Additional tests, however, showed the packets contained a synthetic drug called HU-210, which is 100 to 800 times more potent than natural THC.

Five shipments containing more than 100 pounds HU-210 have been seized so far, with the latest seizure occurring Tuesday. The narcotic was headed for a residence in Florida.

"This very unique discovery of the narcotic, HU-210, is possibly the first of its kind for CBP," said David Murphy, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Director of Field Operations in Chicago. "I would like to commend the fine work that the CBP field operations officers and agriculture specialist displayed by detecting and eventually confirming the presence of a Schedule I controlled substance."

Edit: Coolio posted the link before me, but I'll leave this here as it contains the text from the article which I suppose could be useful for some?

Why help make just one obscure compound illegal when you can do it to three or more at a time?

None of these compounds are scheduled in the US, though they could likely all be prosecuted under the Analog Act. Presumably that is what the officer in the article was referring to. I'd be happy to eat my hat if you can find a real reference to this compound being scheduled in the US.

It's not the first time I've seen the DEA refer to an analog of a scheduled drug as being "Schedule I." Not so long ago, there was a reference in the MicroGram journal to DOC, which is not scheduled in the US, being a Schedule I narcotic.

Wow, that's crazy. HU-210 too? That compound scares me... it's super potent and a full agonist. Might be a good thing if they make Spice illegal...someone is going to die eventually. Nobody knows the safety of HU-210 or the JWH compounds in overdose. Some kid is going to smoke an entire pack of Spice in one sitting and have a heart attack!!

A heart attack? Doubtful, it's not vasoconstrictive and isn't a local aneasthetic (the combination is what makes IV cocaine so dangerous- though the local aneasthetic aspect is dangerous enough on it's own).

Without sufficiently dense concentrations of CB1 receptors in important areas of the brain, CNS depression isn't a real concern. Doesn't seem to induce siezures in OD. Many of these classical cannabinoids can cause impressive orthostatic hypotension, though. Doesn't seem like a potential cause of death, unless someone whacks their head.

I've heard about some people that have smoked 2-3grams...they only got very dried and a little paranoid.

why would they put more than one cannabinoid in this stuff? 8o

Because they have multiple 'varieties', each which needed different effects for marketing purposes. They gave each variety its own special ratio of the different cannabinoids just like each strain of cannabis has its own special ratio...

Certainly a possibility, but with the hundreds of different AAIs out there, I suspect it has more to do with making it difficult to figure out what the active ingredient is.

Now they can sell AAI free versions for a while (well, maybe not now, though I doubt they expected it to go this way).

Funny how that hu-210 stuff is now on wiki, even though it wasnt indepedantly confirmed. The jwh-018 stuff has been replicated, but it was on wiki before that confirmation....And all based not on the research, but on newspaper articles!

And theres even speculation about switching ingredients on the wiki page for hu-210. Sounds like conspiracy stuff!

I doubt this will mean much to most people outside the US.... i dont see world wide panick ensuing anytime soon. I mean its a low addiction potential alternative to a much maligned drug, one which most people havent even heard of despite being available for around ten years. Sure the media would love to create panick using loaded words etc, but i reckon most people, except for the users, dont give a crap.
.someone is going to die eventually

Yeah ive heard of people eating and smoking whole packets, and its been on the market for a decade, so i really really really doubt it. lol.

people who have tried JWH-018 have always claimed that it is different from "spice", not as long lasting, for example. now HU-210 is known to be very long lasting and sedating, just like "spice". so does the finding of HU-210 now explain better the action of "spice"?

today the finding of a "slightly modified version of CP 47,497" in "spice" has been confirmed by the university of freiburg in germany and the german federal crime bureau. the claim that this cannabinoid seems to be the main active principle. they also confirmed the finding of JWH-018, but not in all tested brands, and sometimes only in low concentration. JWH-018 seems to be the main active principle in several products imitating "spice", though, for example "smoke".

I'd be happy to eat my hat if you can find a real reference to this compound being scheduled in the US.

No one took up this challenge but I ascertained that HU-210 is indeed Sched I by consulting the catalogs of chemical suppliers (SA e.g.). Fortunately I have a taste for hat...
