Trailer looks great. Trailers can deceive some times.

Can't go wrong with F. Scott Fitzgerald. Unless you're a butcher.

I will definitely be seeing it.

This has promise. Alien 3 and Panic Room aside, David Fincher is one of my favorite directors.

^ Didn't know there was a short story first, I suppose being the library fanatic that I am I will have to add that to my queue.

But I am looking very much forward to this, should be fun to see around Christmas, and again, hope it turns out to be great. I am actually not that big of a fan of Brad Pitt but I still think he is a really great actor. If anything he will probably be an asset to this film.

nice trailer.

although i would've seen it on fincher alone regardless

beautiful film. very touching. very warm. some very funny bits and some unbelievable visual effects.

i wouldn't recommend watching it in a packed theatre. much of the heart is dulled by the idiots laughing at anything remotely uncomfortable. a few elements were very forrest gump-ish to me.

i liked it. whilst at times it seems rather aimless, it does contain a great message.

4.5/5

I gave it 4 stars, interesting story told absolutely beautifully. It was very "forest gump-y" though, like someone else said. I mean, it really does follow the same kind of structure: disabled individual tells the story of his life and how he inadvertently encounters love, loss, and key moments in history; but the details are so different from that of Forest Gump that this movie really does stand out on its own. I really enjoyed it.

My only complaint is the length, it's a long movie (just under 3 hours? I can't be bothered to check right now). There are some parts in the beginning-middle where it sort of drags, and if you're already exhausted from an emotional day/lack of sleep (like I was), you might find yourself dozing off once or twice.

Other than that, great movie :D I loved the ending, and the "Did I ever tell you I was struck by lighting seven times?" parts, lol.

Film: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

This was a highly entertaining film, through and through, with non-cheesy elements of comic relief and an excellent performance by Brad Pitt as well as the other actors who supported him. The story is simply amazing, and characters are all entertaining and quirky. The plot revolved around a man who was born old and ages backwards. There are a few really satisfying sad scenes which may make you shed a tear or two, and the film itself left me with a really good feeling. I felt like there was a lot put into this film that many producers would have left out given the story line had it not been for the star power of Brad Pitt, which made the production values totally excellent.

5/5

Just saw it at the cinemas. Great concept, poorly executed. Way too long and slow. Brad Pitt's acting is terrible. Cheesy and contrived in parts.

2 stars.

I saw it the other day. I wasn't too impressed either although I liked it better than TheDeceased did, who seems to be on a one-man movie hating spree. It was good in parts. Very interesting concept. Very long though. They could have done more with the daughter part. It would have been more interesting to me to watch him grow younger in contrast to his daughter growing older.

I like a lot of movies. This one was a mess. There were so many side plots that went nowhere and made no sense like Forrest Gump which is exactly what i was thinking when I was watching it. Then after watching it I realized it was written by the guy who wrote FG. The structure is very similar. Someone with a disability overcomes the odds and lives an extraordinary life. The story is told in chapters by a narrator, like in FG. The plot jumps all over the place, introducing a whole series of irrelevant characters like the woman he fucks for a while and his pigmy friend. They have basically no purpose in the film and are just distractions from the lack of substance in the story. Also the one pigmy who was kept in a monkey cage (the character was based loosely on a real person) killed himself soon after being released. He didn't become a suave suit wearing, articulate man who traveled around the States fucking women twice his height.

The concept is extraordinary, but there is very little attention given to it. In fact people take very little notice of the fact that he is aging backwards and it doesn't affect very many aspects of his life.

In Forrest Gump the same thing occured. Despite being mentally handicapped, Forrest was able to live an extraordinary life without even trying. Everything just sort of fell into his lap, like with Benjamin Button. Not only is this 'random occurence' style of writing one of the laziest and easiest ways to construct a story, it isn't right to suggest that serious disabilities have no impact on people's lives. The subject matter isn't approached with sensitivity. Benjamin and Forrest don't have obstacles to overcome. Things just happen to them in an episodic and uninspired manner.

The editing was terrible. Particularly one seen where Blanchette's character was crapping on about Ballet while they were pouring each other glasses of white wine. There were about twenty long cross-fades in a row. Close ups of wine-glasses, her laughing hysterically, etc. One of the worst montages I've seen in recent memory.

Brad Pitt's performance was nothing. It was less interesting than his portrayal of the Angel of Death in 'Meet Joe Black'. His New Orleans accent is off, just like in Interview with the Vampire. Which brings me to New Orleans.

What the fuck was with Hurricane Katrina? The last shot of the film was of the clock ticking backwards in the basement of the building as it flooded with water. Did anyone not cringe when they saw this?

The overuse of the joke of the guy being hit by lightning was horrible and looked as if it belonged in Be Kind, Rewind rather than here.

The film had it's moments though, I guess, which is why I gave it 2 stars. It wasn't the worst film I've seen this month. But I would certainly never watch it again.

LOL....I actually went and saw this when i went home back to New Orleans....And you wouldnt believe the collective...Another-Katrina-portrayal sigh....When they first showed the radar picture of the storm on TV...

It was Brad Pitt and Angelina's bring attention and money to aid in rebuilding New Orleans thing....They did an awesome job capturing the vibe and history of the city though....The cinematography was phenomenal

Anyways, I liked it, and as mentioned before....I was thinking FG the whole time...Great love story but it did drag on quite long...

I gave it 4 stars
