Has anyone tried Resveratrol as a health supplement, not sure if this the correct forum but seeing as its fairly new with new unclear pharmacological effects was just wondering if anyone had any interesting info about it?

Certainly seems an interesting chemical.

I've considered it, but at the moment I can't really afford it. It also seems that the consumption of proanthocyanidins might possibly be more beneficial, or at least, more cost effective.

I'm not sure if either of you lives in the US, UK or Australia but Kashi cereals puts out several decent cereals that have 50 Activin (tm) grapeseed extract - equiv to 1 lb grapes, plus some lycopene and green tea extract.

As for interesting info. - have you read about the Sir2 (Sir-two-ins) - the class of receptors that resveratrol activates - supposedly might be responsible for the effect of calorie restriction which would be signifigant given the up to 30% increases in max lifespan.

Resveratrol degrades easily, and the supplements of this chemical are of notoriously bad quality. The best way to get it is from natural sources. Consuming grapes and several other fruits will give you plenty of resveratrol. You don't even have to drink red wine.

Plus, why pay for an expensive supplement that provides a single chemical (if it even provides it in the amount advertised) when you can get thousands of phytonutrients by eating fruit.

The trick is to eat the most freshly picked fruit, since phytonutrients degrade considerably (like resveratrol) over a matter of days.

I agree that you can't get enough resveratrol from just eating fruit alone. There's not enough of it in wine either. Hence the pill form of it. I don't know that I'd say the pills are notoriosly bad quality...I've read about 2 brands not having the amount of resveratrol in them that they claimed to. But there are some pretty decent brands out there, and not too expensive. I've read many accounts of people being happy with the results of the supplement.

That must be why it's add it into DHEA supplements. It acts as a prohormones that prevents the testosterone that's metabolized from DHEA, further to metabolize into estrogens.

i read the bioavailabity of this is poor.

^there is like this competition.

what they basically do is see how long the life of their favorite vermin can be extended.

im keen that important discoveries can be made. we will have to wait and see.

The effect of reseveratrol is quite modest.

REZ-V is about the best supplement you can get for this stuff. Don't bother with anything else.

I've never taken steroids and do not plan on it, but the effect from this stuff was very noticeable. Effects as in you can feel higher testosterone levels. For me this manifested itself primarily as a magnified ego and general cockiness, so I stopped using it after a solid month or so. I think I gained a solid 5-8 pounds back then too and it seemed to increase hunger levels as well.

I was also getting high blood sugars (I'm diabetic) as it also causes gluconeogenesis in the liver, and this effect was hard for me to deal with. If I recall correctly I was also more enamored by the opposite sex in general, perhaps too enamored..... so if this is what you are looking for, check that stuff out.
