An 18-year-old girl has died in Stockholm after overdosing on mephedrone, a drug that until now has been freely available for purchase on the internet.

After the girl's death at Karolinska University Hospital on Sunday afternoon, Swedish authorities took immediate steps to ban the drug, with the handling of mephedrone classified as a criminal offence as of Monday, December 15th.

The 18-year-old and some friends took the substance in combination with cannabis on Friday night. An ambulance was soon called to Bandhagen in south Stockholm after the girl went into convulsions and turned blue in the face, Svenska Dagbladet reports.

The dangerous stimulant can attack vital organs and is often likened to a cross between cocaine and ecstasy. As it smells of seafood, the substance is referred to by users in Sweden as 'krabba' (crab).

4-methylmethcathinone.

It's an addictive stimulant, entactogen, dopaminergic euphoriant... similar to drugs like methylone, butylone, cocaine, and MDPV.
 
^ well, I don't know about that. All the googling I've done showed it is pretty safe as far as RCs go. And the only other known complication was the death of a boy from the Netherlands (I think?) that was only blamed on mephedrone because the kid had it in his possession. Tox screen didn't prove anything.
 
Why was it said that she took 3 or 5 grams? I don't see a source for that claim but I've seen the number on multiple forums.
 
I have also read elsewhere on the internet that it was actually 4-MTA that cause the death, but it's being mis-reported as 4-MMC.

150 - 200mg is a nice starting point.

Very moorish, easy to consume 1g within a number of hours.

Have also combined with Methylone, 200mg Methylone followed 1hr later by 200mg of Mephedrone. proved a very nice combination with next to no comedown... the methylone comedown is masked by the onset of the mephedrone which then tapers off without any crash.

Do worry about the metabolites of Mephedrone, especially in doses over a total of 500mg upto 1000mg... having noticed shortness of breath and some pains in the chest in the region of the heart.
Suspect that one of the metabolites causes methemoglobinia and to counter this have found that a post-loading of vit c, melatonin and NADH helps considerably.

Interesting reading about that girl who died... read about methemoglobinia on wiki... seizures?
 
Seems they reported the wrong chemical, bastards! According to champs it was 4mta.

On another note its only a matter of time before we see this for real! My heart was beating shockingly fast the other night from the day before. With people taking silly doses its inevitable. I know someone who dropped 700mg for his first time tonight, fuck knows why!
 
Sounds like this girl was really careless. If the starting dose is 200 mgs I wouldnt use more than a gram of the substance over a 24 peroid. Does anyone know of the legality of this compound in the united states.
 
Re legality in the US...

Like here in NZ and in the US the Analogue Laws cover these substances as the parent drug of both Methylone and Mephedrone is (meth)Cathinone.
Methylone (bk-MDMA) is also analogous of MDMA.


The product EasE (active ingredient: methylone) was trialled here in NZ back in 2005 until it was pointed out to the authorities it was a restricted substance.
 
its bk-paramethylmethamphetamine; the structural siilarity to PMA is enough to keep me way the fuck away from it...
 
I wouldn't begin to worry about para-methyls, the M in PMA stands for methoxy, para-alkyl seems to be no problem.

AFAICT, the people claiming that this was actually 4-MTA stand to profit from mephedrone. The reporting is accurate.
 
Anyone find anything that says she actually took 3 to 5 grams? I've used this substance a bit, but doing 100mg at a time (usually 2 or 3 doses in a night).
 
Nope, can't find this either. I'm pretty sure it's just an extended effort buy a vendor to make it sound safer than it really is.

why do you say that? I've never had any problems on it. I've flirted with the devil, such as 40mg of 4-PMA, mixing TFMPP and pethidine, pethidine and cocaine, ect, and felt the tickle of serotogenic toxicty creeping up. (FEELS BAD MAN!) but never had anything more then regular (methamp, methcath) side-effects from mephedrone.

No unusual heart rates, no elevated body temp, no myoclonic convulsions, ect.
