everyone knows of that rediculously large dmt crystal on erowid. i would like to know what solvent, tempurature, and pressure that crystal was grown at and the method they used. thankyou

oddly the giant crystal displays a different crystal habit to the other examples of dmt. according to Shulgin there is no evidence of polymorphism in freebase dmt which suggests to me that it might not be freebase DMT.
almost every example of DMT freebase shown online crystalises as feathery somewhat jagged highly pointed crystals not as square face prisms which appear octahedral sided prisms in the famous huge crystal, the angle of the cleavage plane at the end of the large crystals is clearly different to other examples of DMT.

...could it be a salt of DMT, presumably the hydrochloride, and Erowid just labeled it wrong?! Because Vecktors note has indeed to be taken into consideration; the depicted polyform differs drastically from everything else shown on the net.

@IGNVS: Have you tried to mail Erowid and ask if they know some more about the background of that pic?

Aside from general awe I don't see the appeal of such a crystal. The drug is far easier to measure and smoke as smaller fluffy crystals. It is a really cool photo though.
 
Maybe an organic salt like the fumarate? In any case no it doesn't look like freebase DMT, from someone I know's experience in growing xtals of freebase DMT, it tends to make fractal snowflakes.
 
Heh, that thing gives my DMT crystal envy. Freud would be proud.

And I thought my little snowflakes were sizeable...
 
make sure to seed the solution so you can grow a super crystal! the comments about snowflake small crystals are probably cause you didn't seed it with an existing crystal.

also a now-banned poster on this site (Youkai) had good success growing fat DMT crystals by using a v-shaped tray to evaporate in.
 
I once left some very pure racemic Ketamine HCL in a spoon and saturated it into heated isopropanol. The next day I was delighted to see some amazing and pretty large (for K) star-like crystals. I'd like to try that again soon :)

As for the pic on Erowid, quite honestly this looks like Quartz. It might have been submitted by some "guru" and accepted for fact.

Amphetamine sulphate produces needle shaped crystals in a flower (chrysanthemum-like appearance) pattern when recrystallized from water. They are very pretty to look at.

I believe they're called a florette of needle shaped crystals

thats the type of dmt round here, would be cool to see some bigger crystals
 
the dmt crystallizing again on the dmt pipe does make hexagonal prisms (which is what shulgin says about the crystal structure iirc), so that huge dmt crystal on erowid might as well be real. i've read somewhere that the tannins left over from the extraction probably affect the crystal structure.
