whats the healthiest food IYO?

ORAC is a scam. Antioxidants are not necessarily good for you, aren't necessarily bioavailable, and don't necessarily accumulate or get transported to cells which have a free radical problem. Higher ORAC ratings means nothing for biological and nutritional effect.

As far as 'phytochemicals' or 'phytonutrients'... please be more specific. Anything produced in a plant is a phytochemical.

Super fruits and antioxidants and phytonutrients are all meaningless marketing gibberish. Vague and inconsequential theory.

dunno if I'd go that far, but hey I'm no scientist...

do you think they hold promise and just haven't been understood enough, or that the oxidation/antioxidants issue is purely a marketing ploy in its entirety?

Marketing ploy in its entirety. Antioxidants are important biologically, but there's only evidence that certain specific antioxidants are useful/important in certain areas of the body during certain processes. ORAC is as useful to a human to think about when eating food as the melting point is when a cocaine user is snorting cocaine. Yeah melting point may help indicate purity, but it has nothing to do with the positive effects that the purity brings.

The term 'antioxidant' is pretty similar to 'antidepressant', in that it doesn't get specific with how and where and why it does what it does.

Coconut - coconut water, the meat, coconut oil, it's all good for you.

Berries - blueberry, rasberry, blackberry, goji berry, acai berry

Nuts and Seeds - almond, walnut, brazil nut, macadamia nut, pistachio, pumpkin seeds, hemp, and flax seed.

Protein - free range organic eggs and fish.

carbs - oat and quinoa, sprouted whole grain bread and sour dough.

Fats - coconut oil and palm oil, butter, lard and ghee. a little bit of saturated fat is good for you. I eat a Tbsp of coconut oil and butter everyday.
:D

Beverage - water, tea, kombucha and raw milk.

well i don't know for sure.... but i have digestive problems and eat a lot of fiber 1 cereal...which i know is a combination of foods but one serving has 56% of your daily fiber intake which keeps me going (literally and figuratively lol)

i also really enjoy eating.... spinach, egg whites, berries, sweet potatos, nearly all fruits and vegetables... avacado, and a bunch of other yummy things....

but seriously the fiber1 cereal will save you, if you can't go!

^ fiber is great for ya no matter what, and if you have trouble going and the fiber doesnt cut it, yerba mate is a very very good solution. also tobacco relaxes smooth muscle (or stimulates i forget which) and will help ya too. both of these act more quickly than fiber, but id recommend fiber or a combo instead of using these as an alternative.

as to the antioxidant thing, i cant argue with you but i think that you are taking an extreme view. also we do know how antioxidants function in a way, that is they neutralize free radicals, and we do have some evidence that free radicals start chain reactions causing negative health effects. we also know of evidence that diets high in antioxidants result in less disease. however i do agree for the most part, i just feel that that is too extreme of a position to be reasonable.

is the absence of evidence evidence of absence?

Bee pollen tastes nothing like honey. It tastes more like flowers & dirt.

I think nitelife has the best list. That's like what i eat everyday and i'm going through serious withdrawals and i can still have motivation and feel healthy as fuck.

Almonds stick in ur teeth real bad tho :(

about the living on yerba mate thing, Pasteur Institute in Paris concluded that mate contains almost all the nutrition human beings require to sustain health.

also check out spirulina, blue green algae and chlorella, way good for ya

and yeah bee pollen does taste exactly like flowers and dirt, capsules are your friend;)

oh yeah cocoa is a very nutritionally dense food, tons of good stuff there

coca too for that matter

ahhhh, I know I may be setting myself up for some embarrassment here, but I'm just gonna go on a limb w/o researching this and say that yerba mate contains LESS THAN HALF of the nutrients needed to sustain life. If you've got sources showing, in sufficient quantities to fulfill nutritional needs, yerba contains even, say 75% of the needed nutrients to live I'd be fucking shocked.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good product, but to assert it has all the vitamins, minerals, macronutrients, etc needed to sustain life just sounds completely silly.

At the end of the day this thread is kind of missing the point - well, shit the poitn is the point, but there IS NO "healthiest" food. Based on you, your diet, etc, my 'healthiest' will likely be different than yours. Further, variety is the healthiest approach to your diet/intake, so just the idea of looking for a 'healthiest' is kind of silly imo. Just to add a bit more, here's a fantastic list of foods, I know it says for bodybuilders but this is just all around good stuff ;)
