My list --

Poppy tea (9/10) - This stuff is legal?!? YGTBF'inKiddingMe. How does every teenager in the world not know that you can get incredibly fucked up on seeds you buy for $2/lb in bulk, lemon juice, hot water and a coffee filter? This really blows my mind.

Propylhexedrine (Benzedrex) (9/10) - Again, this stuff is legal? It's speed, plain and simple. Heck, I actually like it better than most prescription uppers like Adderall. 3-4 hour energetic, euphoric high with little or no crash. Don't eat the cotton, extract with lemon juice. See my post on page 3.

Morning Glory/Hawaiian Baby Woodrose (9/10) - Psychedelic. Can be every bit as powerful as acid or shrooms if you take enough. Unfortunate side effect of extreme nausea in some people, of which I am one. Extractions may overcome this if you can get them to work.

DXM (8/10) - Effects range from mild intoxication and euphoria (low doses) to extreme psychedelic mindfuck. Probably the strangest drug in the world, for my money. Potentiates many other drugs, notably opiates.

Kratom (8/10) - Great high, but short duration and expensive as hell. Very reminiscent of opiates but with added stimulation.

Blue Lotus (6/10) - Mostly a sedative, really. Slight empathogen. Requires alcohol to do much of anything; either steep the leaves in wine for a few days or mix the extract with wine. Synergizes very well with kratom, but liable to put you to sleep (at least you will have crazy dreams).

Kava Kava (6/10) - Reminds me of good ol' ethyl, but a little more prosocial & doesn't mess up your coordination and thinking as much (still, don't drive on it).

Yohimbe (6/10) - Very powerful stimulant, and the sexual part really is true, for men anyway. I don't know if it makes sex "better", but it definitely makes you want it more and able to have more of it.

Wormwood (5/10) - Like a weird cross between a low dose of LSA and marijuana. Seems to have a definite "ceiling" -- escalating amounts doesn't increase the buzz, so don't use more than about 500mg of the powdered herb. Might synergize well with other stuff.

Betel Nut (4/10) - Reminiscent of caffeine. Pros: slightly longer duration, not as much of a "crash". Cons: carcinogenic and messy (you're spitting red juice everywhere). I'll stick to tea and coffee.

Booze (3/10) - Bleh, I've never liked this stuff. You're buzzed, but you can't really enjoy it because your mind is barely working. Why is this the most popular high in the USA again? Oh yeah, because the government wants people to be kept stupid :P

Syrian Rue (2/10) - Definitely psychoactive MAOI, but every time I've tried it the feelings induced are dark. This applies to combinations as well. I stay away from it -- it gives me a very bad vibe.

Kanna (1/10) - It has effects, but to me they are not desirable at all. It makes me feel spaced-out and dizzy, not happy or even stoned. Many say it synergizes with marijuana.

Monk's Pepper/Chasteberry (0/10) - Garbage.

Calamus/Sweet Flag (0/10) - Garbage.

That's all I can think of offhand. Others?

Why did you put Calamus down as garbage? I find it to be very interesting despite tasting like total ass.

I chewed a mouthful of it for as long as I could stand the taste and got no psychoactive effects at all. I don't have the nerve to swallow it after reading Erowid reports of people puking for 4-6 hours. How do you use it?

There's also nutmeg.

Never tried it, but I've heard it's a deliriant... I don't really count those as "highs", personally.

Poppy tea you say, hmmmmmm? Everywhere I search says you use the "pods" from the opium poppy. Seeds work too? Can they be found at a grocery store?

interesting review mr. BodhiSvaha33 :)
"Booze (3/10)",,hehe, i love it though

i would say:
coffee, alcohol and dxm made the grade for me
but im not a fine connaisseur of the legal highs realm

The seeds definitely work, and I buy mine in grocery stores. However, you have to be careful with dosage, because seeds vary widely in codeine/morphine content. They can be anywhere from inactive to dangerously toxic (www.poppyseedtea.com has an account of a lethal overdose). Best thing to do is make a lot at a time and test it, starting small. The bitterness of the taste is a pretty good indicator of the strength.

otc codeine is probably the best legal high
OTC (the counter being the Internet) Tramadol also isn't bad, but it's more like a "legal buzz" than a legal high. Makes my no-tolerance lab rats feel warm/cozy and relaxed (+ a bit of mood boost & extra energy), but very little of the intense euphoria you get from true opiates. Still, it's pleasant and for the most part an inviting substance IMO. Something I could imagine doing all day at low doses just to feel better, at least until I developed a tolerance.

otc as in the pharmacy ( here in canada) .There is plenty of codeine on the net, even morphine but its not legal.

I gotta agree with that one -- although alas, it also really blows my digestive system too. Still, a little stomach distress is a small price to pay for sharing the pleasures of Miss Poppy. (And let's talk about the duration - not only is it cheap, but it lasts for a good long while).

Ditto on the nausea, but yes, morning glory and woodrose seeds can certainly assrape your reality tunnel if taken in sufficient quantity. Alas, I could never get past the vomiting.

DXM (7/10) - Effects range from mild intoxication and euphoria (low doses) to extreme psychedelic mindfuck. Probably the strangest drug in the world, for my money. Potentiates many other drugs, notably opiates.

My only experiences with DXM were in Robotussin DM in 1990 or so. I was impressed with DXM's power, but not so impressed with the high. To me the "lobotomy in a bottle" quality (reminiscent of major tranquilizers like Navane or Mellaril) overpowered everything else: it wasn't a whole lot of fun.

Wormwood (5/10) - Like a weird cross between a low dose of LSA and marijuana. Seems to have a definite "ceiling" -- escalating amounts doesn't increase the buzz, so don't use more than about 500mg of the powdered herb. Might synergize well with other stuff.

Have had some interesting experiences with wormwood extract: it's a nasty tasting smoke but it synergizes well with kanna and cannabis and produces a relatively long-lasting, weird "clear-headed" high. (See some of the Erowid reports on wormwood and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about). The extract is also pretty cheap (less than $10 for 3g) and lasts a while, so it's pretty economical -- the herb itself would be even cheaper for use.

Booze (3/10) - Bleh, I've never liked this stuff. You're buzzed, but you can't really enjoy it because your mind is barely working. Why is this the most popular high in the USA again? Oh yeah, because the government wants people to be kept stupid :P

Haven't had a drink in almost 12 years, don't miss it, have no desire to drink again. There are so many chemicals which are far more entertaining and less destructive: I don't enjoy drugs that lower my IQ, and for me booze is as bad as DXM in that regard.

Kanna (1/10) - It has effects, but to me they are not desirable at all. It makes me feel spaced-out and dizzy, not happy or even stoned. Many say it synergizes with marijuana.

I like kanna a great deal: I find it's a superb fast-acting mood elevator and mild stimulant. A pinch between the cheek and gums is like a combination of St. John's Wort and Yerba Mate: it gives a quick energy lift and improves the mood. It's also nice added to flavored teas (especially with milk). And for me a little pinch atop a bowl of hemp amps up the experience very nicely. It's not a mind-bender like salvia extract, psilocybin or DXM; I find it more a nice ally who helps make my day better.

So if I follow that procedure, what are the chances that I die?

Zero, if you're careful. The author of that guide recommends drinking 1/2 of a tea made from 350g of seeds. I'm fairly certain there is no way a brew that weak could contain lethal levels of morphine. The only recorded case of someone dying from poppy seed tea was from drinking about 2L worth of liquid made from 3.5 lbs (~1500g) of seeds.

And may I say that drinking 2L of poppy tea would probably kill me just from the yuck factor. There are few things that taste worse than poppy tea.

Your other post on this inspired me to try kanna again, but if anything it was even worse this time. Either my brain chemistry doesn't like the stuff, or it has an interaction with one of the several nootropics I take daily (piracetam, hydergine, adrafinil).

The kid who died with the poppy seeds used around 3.5 pounds, FYI.

If you look at the toxicology report of a Liter of tea made with 3.5 pounds of the same seed it shows .25 grams of morphine.

In my mind, that seems to be average potency for seed per pound.

Just know your body, and if your still unsure start low 1/2 pound of seed to gauge potency or something.

Don't waste your time with seeds, you'll get way better results with pods.

Most seeds these days are "washed" to prevent abuse anyway.

edit: then again, if you're brand new to opiates you might want to start with seeds, or maybe 1 or 2 large pods. I've given my opiate-free girlfriend a tea made of 6 large pods that had her vomiting for hours and gasping for breath at one point.

Blew my mind, but hey...it happened. And yes, I felt like an asshole :\

I have some pods on order. I'm sick of dealing with the vagaries of seeds (and I've only made a few brews). Pods are a bit more expensive though; cheapest/smallest order I could find was 75 "regular size" for NO PRICES. That works out to probably NO PRICES per brew, more than double what seeds cost.

Washing the seeds reduces the opiate content but doesn't completely eliminate it. I imagine "virgin" seeds would be a good bit stronger, but the things are just so darn cheap in bulk...

I think seeds are a good starting point, probably better than trying to buy individual pods in craft stores, which might be treated with something anyway.

Just a few legal highs I've tried (nothing herbal though...they're too many of them...): (rated on a scale of 1 to 10)

CODEINE
10/10 (OTC outside of the US) This is the perfect legal high. Opiate-like. Not so addictive. Dreamy. Noddy. Warm.......

POPPERS
6/10 A nice potentiator of other drugs, but not a good drug by itself. (if you always use fresh bottles and don't abuse it, it doesn't cause headaches!!)

NITROUS
4/10 Too expansive, not worth the short high. Still good though.

DIPHENHYDRAMINE
1/10 as a high (discomfortable, unpleasant...) (but 10/10 as a medication and potentiator (anti-allergy, sleeping-pill, so many other uses.... One of the best Opiate potentiator too......)

DXM
5/10 Can be very intense and also sometimes enjoyable as a high, very strong, but too unpleasant most of the time......

BZP(+TFMPP)
9/10 A very good legal high. Can provide an intense Amphetamine-like, and also low-dose-Shrooms-like trip. If you can't bear the side-effects (like me), just take a lower dose (~75mg) and then it is very pleasant, enjoyable, just fels good.....

PROPYLHEXEDRINE
2/10 Expansive. Not much better than Ephedrine for recreationnal purpose. Nasty.
