Many plus and minuses for me:
+++ The bluelighters I met were all cool as fuck, it was a pleasure to have them destroy our campsite.
-- The rain was the most amazing rain I've ever seen, continuous, monsoon rain.
---- Many minuses for the overkill stage getting flooded under 3 feet of water. Apparently because they had diverted the river away from the main stage into it. there were rumours that it would be closed all weekend. I felt very depressed at this point: what? no bangface?
++++ at 4pm, we squelch past the overkill stage and noticed the barriers being removed. The engineers had worked all day to drain the water and get the overkill stage back up and running. Amazing job, I could have hugged them if they weren't so muddy. Bangface was back on! we got into our policemen outfits for the "cops and ravers" themed party.
++ massive crowd in bangface waiting expectantly for the breakcore madness. the music started, but there was something missing.
---- VOLUME was missing. the whole fucking soundsystem was operating at about half volume. You could stand at the front and chat with people without shouting during Tim Exile's set. I wandered back to talk to the engineers. they pointed at a bloke in a blue tshirt who was looking at a sound meter and scribbling figures on a clipboard. Basically, to get the license this year, the Glade people had to agree to permanent observers on site, making sure volumes on the stages went above 92db. Bangface should be at 110db! Even the famous bangface inflatables were no fun, as they were dipped in mud and smeared all over your face
- We were dressed as coppers. We thought the flashing blue lights on our helmets, dilated pupils and nutty dancing might give the game away. But we were convincing enough to have some paranoid ex-con try to forcibly eject us from the tent. We realised that not may people in the tent were getting the joke, went back to the campsite and got changed. That was the end of bangface.

++ we did a massive hoot of ket, then staggered back down to richie hawtin with tyler and weCome- which was fucking amazing. just brilliant. So good I had to come back to it later.
+++ things got very wierd after this, so I really appreciated tyler's guidance! we went to see some psy, but that was too dark for me, and we swam a very roundabout route back to the campsite to finish ourselves off.
+++ saturday was much better than friday. I was determined not to lose funkyalfonzo like i had the night before. By then, most of the disasters on site had been fixed as best they could, all the stages were back, and we we well used to tramping about in the mud. when the sun came out, a massive cheer rippled across the whole site.
++ Venetian Snares kicked fucking ass! the best thing I heard all weekend. Unfotunately he was playing the Overkill stage. After four songs people were chanting "turn it up!" yet again. Some geezer got on the mike and tried to explain why it was quiet. He was booed off. Snares grabbed the mike and shoulted "This is shit! Let's take this shit over!" we all cheered but did nothing about chucking the council guy out of the soundbooth, so the volume stayed down. Snares played one more song and just fucked off halfway through his set. --
the rest of the time, we just gave up on the music and got fucked and it was great fun. +++++
