Glade- The Aftermath

I had a fucking amazing time at my first Glade, nobody seemed give a fuck about the mud and just got on with getting boshed and dancing their arses off. The atmosphere was totally incredible, I expected it to be relaxed but there was just no aggro from anyone, even right at the front of the biggest sets. It's quite depressing being back in the real world, where not everyone is your best mate!

TBH my only regret about the whole weekend is not getting more of that Charis hash stuff on Sunday night, I was too K'd up to understand what the fairy woman was asking me :(

Best set I saw all weekend was FreQ Nasty, absolutely blew me away. I don't know how I'll keep away next year!

Many plus and minuses for me:

+++ The bluelighters I met were all cool as fuck, it was a pleasure to have them destroy our campsite.

-- The rain was the most amazing rain I've ever seen, continuous, monsoon rain.

---- Many minuses for the overkill stage getting flooded under 3 feet of water. Apparently because they had diverted the river away from the main stage into it. there were rumours that it would be closed all weekend. I felt very depressed at this point: what? no bangface?

++++ at 4pm, we squelch past the overkill stage and noticed the barriers being removed. The engineers had worked all day to drain the water and get the overkill stage back up and running. Amazing job, I could have hugged them if they weren't so muddy. Bangface was back on! we got into our policemen outfits for the "cops and ravers" themed party.

++ massive crowd in bangface waiting expectantly for the breakcore madness. the music started, but there was something missing.

---- VOLUME was missing. the whole fucking soundsystem was operating at about half volume. You could stand at the front and chat with people without shouting during Tim Exile's set. I wandered back to talk to the engineers. they pointed at a bloke in a blue tshirt who was looking at a sound meter and scribbling figures on a clipboard. Basically, to get the license this year, the Glade people had to agree to permanent observers on site, making sure volumes on the stages went above 92db. Bangface should be at 110db! Even the famous bangface inflatables were no fun, as they were dipped in mud and smeared all over your face

- We were dressed as coppers. We thought the flashing blue lights on our helmets, dilated pupils and nutty dancing might give the game away. But we were convincing enough to have some paranoid ex-con try to forcibly eject us from the tent. We realised that not may people in the tent were getting the joke, went back to the campsite and got changed. That was the end of bangface. :(:(:(

++ we did a massive hoot of ket, then staggered back down to richie hawtin with tyler and weCome- which was fucking amazing. just brilliant. So good I had to come back to it later.

+++ things got very wierd after this, so I really appreciated tyler's guidance! we went to see some psy, but that was too dark for me, and we swam a very roundabout route back to the campsite to finish ourselves off.

+++ saturday was much better than friday. I was determined not to lose funkyalfonzo like i had the night before. By then, most of the disasters on site had been fixed as best they could, all the stages were back, and we we well used to tramping about in the mud. when the sun came out, a massive cheer rippled across the whole site.

++ Venetian Snares kicked fucking ass! the best thing I heard all weekend. Unfotunately he was playing the Overkill stage. After four songs people were chanting "turn it up!" yet again. Some geezer got on the mike and tried to explain why it was quiet. He was booed off. Snares grabbed the mike and shoulted "This is shit! Let's take this shit over!" we all cheered but did nothing about chucking the council guy out of the soundbooth, so the volume stayed down. Snares played one more song and just fucked off halfway through his set. --

the rest of the time, we just gave up on the music and got fucked and it was great fun. +++++

sick weekend!

The trance was absolutely sick, especailly in the liquid stage. Awsome! Sound system in there was heavy, until 12 when they turned it down. It was really hard to get into the heavier music late on because of the volume, so we did most of are raving before then.

It was very very muddy, raining for 14 hours non stop on the friday, but i was totally invincible to the water/rain in my wellies and waterproofs.

We got absolutely mashed every night, the drugs were top notch! The place was flooded with K and MDMA, and there was a fair bit of acid and psycs going around too. Did silly amounts of k and larger on the first night, very messy! Pretty much lived of K and Fosters through out the weekend - it was such hardcore conditions, a bit of regular numbing was nessecay! I dropped a blank 2cb pill and did some K when i was up on the friday night - absolutely amazing - a really intense experience at the origin stage(psy).

Hit the MDMA and half a 2cb on the saturday night and went to se venitian snares, the some hardcore/gabber then enduser. Really good fun, but again a bit quiet later on. Venitian snares was an arrogant twat and left after 20 mins - what a dicked!

Finished off the weekend mainly in the liquid, the psy was something else!

Everyone seemed to leave on the sunday evening, but we trooped on throughout, met some cool people at the origin - had a great evening.

Music wise this was my best Glade yet, highlights included, Tristan, Mood Deluxe, Dreadzone, Enduser, loads else cant recall right now. Bangface evening was proper shit, half the sound was offline due to the rain, and the crowd was full off aggy raver types.Far to busy in there aswell.

Left at about 11 today, and i took about 2 hours to leave the carpark. We teamed up with these lads in the same situation and used discarded fencing to create a 'rolling road' over the streams of mud, It was great to see everyone helping each other out, especially after such a knackering weekend. Thank go d in back in the dry now!

Roll on 2008!

ugggggggggggh
gutted. We had to leave early [i feel like a lameoid for that, really didnt want to] cuz our tent flooded twice. sleeping bags soaked, no dry clothes etc. So we were gonna pack all our things in the car, make the most of it on sat night before going early on sunday.
Then we got to the carpark and heard that practically all the cars were getting stuck in the mud. you had to pay a fiver to get a tractor to tow you out and there was only gonna be three of them to get alllll those cars out so we decided to just get out before the rush and left 1am saturday night.
now i REALLY REALLY hope you can confirm that is was horrific getting out of glade and you all wish youd left earlier. lol :\

Sorry i only managed to see about three of you [by chance] while i was there but inbetween battling with the rain and our holey tent i didnt seem to get the chance. I swear i'll spend some time with yous at at least one glade :)

obviously the rain fucked glade but i think it proved what a nice festival it is too since as soon as it stopped everyone was out smiling and dancing. :) It wasnt ruined for me just cut short and super muddy.

Just got back now.

Big thanks to the two scottish lads camped next door who gave me a lift back to london. Sound as fuck! Just like 99% of the people I came across in fairness.

The weather was a bit of a downer as I slept in a bus shelter in basingstoke thursday night and had no dry clothes left by midday on Friday:(

Once I got down the campsite and met up with a few leeds lads for nitrous, mdma and joints I cheered up bigtime.

Called by the Bluelight campsite briefly a few times and was good to put some (mainly smashed!)faces to names. Sorry that I didn't have a chat with a few - but kept getting sidetracked. In fact - I found it difficult to get past the Liquid tent where we were camped!

Ritchie Hawtin was one of the high points - although the set before him was just amazing. I was fucked beyond reason at the time and was just dancing with five equally fucked people outside my tent a few feet away. Anyone know who it was?

Also the talk at 4pm on saturday by the guy who has written books on and participated in ayahuasca ceremonies was fucking great.

I wish it was a week long festival! 3 days is not enough - my only real complaint!

Come on 2008.

Glade fucking KICKED ASS!!!!!!!!!!!! =D

There was nothing the organisers could do about the rain. It was absolutely torrential and continuous. The only thing which was disappointing was I didnt see anyone giving out ponchos/silver foil warmers on the friday morning. There were some seriously cold people who could have got rather ill... Also the people working for oxfam doing 8 hour shifts outdoors through the rain didn't get many provisions provided considering they weren't allowed to leave their posts...

..BUT. Incredible music, a wonderful atmosphere and camaraderie and the BEST company from USHers and Bluelighters made it fucking brilliant.

Glade 2008, BRING IT ON, BABY!!!!

(proper report to come tomorrow)

Just to say, I don't blame the organisers for the rain. To be honest, I'm impressed that everything still went off as well as it did. I was just very frustrated that nothing was done about the mud that would obviously ensue.

Roll on 2008 indeed, but if the forecast is like this year I'm selling my ticket at the last second.

Putting down gravel and straw is great for when it's muddy, provides a bit of grip. How hard can it be for organisers to have this handy.

no gravel, it's a nature reserve. And they couldn't move the vehicles around the site to distribute straw and chips. Plus you'd need an amazon rainforest's worth of chips to cover 8 stages.

I have no moans about the organisation, I'm so impressed they managed to cobble something together out of the submerged overkill stage, just the corrupt security who claimed sitting inside our tent to do our stuff wasn't discreet enough.. But these are ALL hazards you come to expect at festivals.

Have you heard the fuss over snares?

he replies to a couple of insulting posts in this thread.

Bollocks, it was me, you and Tyler not WeCome1! One of the highlights of my weekend has to be hearing that WeCome1 accidently double dropped nitrazapam while wrecked on pills and knocked himself out, or mtgg fighting for peoples civial liberties (bit gutting about the outcome though).

The origin stage was kicking off all weekend, I didn't give a fuck about the mud once I had wellies, everyone just dealt with it and was in high spirits. It was a full on monsoon most of Friday and we tended to spend it under the gazeebo moaning. Once it died off people headed off about the place. Highlights were the origin stage on Friday night and then off to see Hawtin. The mission that ensued was fun, getting stuck in the mud while on ket etc

On the Saturday I went to the Origin Stage with a few people, Nass, Tom, Fanny (Ivans friend) and Alistair (lad that was camped next to us). Did an inactive acid blotter, then a few bumps of ket. Not much happening so I did 15mg 2c-b up my nose. Had already been doing it so it seemed to do nothing. About 2 hours after the 2cb and 4 after the acid nothing much was happening at all so I got into my bag of MDMA. It was coming on in waves so I kept going trying to get something out of it. Eat Static came on an hour later and played the most pyschedelic Psy Trance I've ever heard. Suddenly I was wrecked, the MDMA kicked everything in (except the acid, but I thought it at the time) and I had the most intense clubbing experience of my life. I was getting synaesthesia and the music was intense. I had the most unbelievable clubbing experience in my life, I was just dancing away and hammering poppers. I thought people were camped up next to me in tents and I couldn't get over how good the music sounded. The colours were melting into it and I didn't know how the fuck it happened.

On the Sunday I fell asleep through the day then went to see Allaby at the Origin stage. He played The Egg - Angel of My Soul and I nearly creamed my pants. Driving, dark trance through and through, I was in my element again. Me, Nass and mtgg were having it at the origin stage all afternoon. Then it all ended and we got some sort of weather warning about storms on the Monday morning. Me and mtgg were well up for staying but people seemed to be scared of a bit of rain after spending a weekend getting wrecked and dancing in the mud. We got back to camp bluelight and it was fucking deserted, everyone had fucked off early on the Sunday. ¬ mtgg's mates were off and my mate wanted to go that night. He sorted us a converted garage of a friend of his to stay at in Windsor, we had to get there that night. We got out the tube at kings cross with minutes to spare for our train in the morning then the tube station shut down because there was a fire outside Kings Cross. The overhead lines on the trains were fucked so we had to queue for a crammed deasil train for ages. Then everyone legged it to the train and we only just got seats, getting back hours later than expected.

Fucking quality weekend, fuck the mud, the music and the people were spot on and everyone was loving it.

^^ yes mate, how bloody good was the trance! Liquid was easily the best stage IMO.

They were no good, the mud was about a foot deep in places. Glade is on a slant and the place was absolutely flooded down the bottom, the wooden chips placed on the first day of rain were washed away under a river. I think a lake burst its banks aswell. The place is fucked and there was nothing anyone could do but get on with it.

Pissing it down early morning this point but you can't see the absolute beast of a monsoon (it got a lot worse than this later but I didn't get any photos).

Where did you get to most of the weekend? I'm sure your tent was still up last night, not sure if you were still there or not though?

Post from Nass:
I'm the one with the big gay orange hat in those pictures! Highlight of the weekend had to be Andy's face every time he had a nitrous blast, that is pure happiness and watching that over and over again was quality entertainment.

You're all a fantastic bunch and it was a total pleasure meeting you all and getting completely mapped together, that sort of a community is a good thing and the spirits were usually high.

I should be on tomorrow or any time soon when the moderators re-activate my account.

He also pissed inside a bottle which was left in the back of our tent, which was touching someone elses. It was gone this morning so fuck knows who thought they'd found 3 litres of cider but I wouldn't like to be them.

Oh and one for Tyler from me (Tranced), Allaby playing that track, this is why I love Trance.
