Please Actually Give the Discord some attention. It is ruining your credibility.

You specifically have people like Cherry posting memes and making jokes while people are in an actual drug crisis begging for help and getting ignored, 5 different occasions you can search up in the discord, made fun of a trial mods girlfriend for their weight until they left the server, and both actually use their power to ban people over petty disagreements and threaten it constantly. There is very obviously an "in" group who have goals other than harm reduction, running it like a highly selective social club or a group chat instead.

I didnt even get banned or anything like that, this is not a revenge attempt. This is a genuine attempt to go up the chain since a few high rank people there are clearly abusive and negligent, and I care about bluelight.

The discord and the forum are both run under the Bluelight umbrella, but are pretty independent from one another with regard to staff and culture.

This may be a drug site( Harm Reduction), but still that is the place where the 734 Cult started. Look it up, it is awful. Having a presence on Discord does not help BL's image.

Especially with all the awful shit that the mods on there are doing. BL, needs to sever ties with Discord.

I reject the arguement, about it being merely a platform; that BL uses. Especially since the mods are apparently awful( a least large percentage of them).

I maybe a bit jaded, but even I was horrified by the things I have heard go on at Discord.

Bluelight, maybe just trying to gain a bigger global presence, but with the shit going on there; it only hurts BL's image. Especially if the mods on the BL server are as awful as people have said.

it's so curious that you bring this up publicly after we discussed it privately but that's your opinion to which you are entitled.

but it makes me believe that you are now deliberately conflating discord (the platform generally) and the bluelight discord server (specifically) to make a point. i spent some time explaining the difference to you and the fact that you continue to do it, has me wondering why you're now doing it publicly and deliberately.

i'll reproduce here what i told you in our dm exchange.

discord is not a 'place'. i think perhaps you're a little confused about what discord actually is...

discord is a platform - think of it like a building. the building itself is neutral; what matters is what goes on inside the individual rooms. a shopping mall might have a great family restaurant and a shady pawnshop under the same roof, but you wouldn't condemn the whole building because of one tenant, would you?

discord hosts hundreds of thousands of individual servers, each run independently by different communities with their own rules, cultures, and purposes. some of those communities are genuinely awful - that's true. but that's equally true of facebook, reddit, and pretty much every major platform on the internet. the platform isn't the content.

bluelight's discord server is run by bluelight staff, follows bluelight's rules, and exists for exactly the same reason this forum does: to provide a safe, moderated space for harm-reduction discussion. it has nothing to do with whatever problematic servers you may have encountered or heard about elsewhere on discord.

criticising bluelight for using discord because of bad actors on other servers is a bit like criticising someone for using email because scammers also use email. the tool isn't the problem.

to get back to the original post, any report like this is concerning. i have reached out to the op to ask for more detail and links to examples. i have not, yet, heard back.

to anybody else who has concerns about behavior of, or specific posts by, members of bluelight discord staff, please report them (with screenshots or links) by emailing [email protected] or dm'ing any admin.

I totally disagree on this. I didn't mention you specifically. I did mention my problems with BL, being affiliated at all with it.

I am going to assume you have a retirement fund and probably a stock portfolio.

Would you invest in a solid, very secure, high yield mutual fund; that had mostly benign stocks, but also included some very shady ones.

For example if said mutual fund had stocks in shady international arms manufacturers, companies that were well know for horrific child labor abuses in 3rd world countries, companies that support and invest in countries with horrific brutal dictatorships, companies who were associated with horrific human rights abuses in general, associated with Trump,lol, ect...?

What if it is was a very good, solid investment. Yeah they have plenty of other relatively benign companies in their holdings; but you knew that they would also invest in very awful companies and the mutual fund was known for these terrible things?

The Trump one was a joke, but you would probably be horrified,lol.

Would you want that mutual fund knowing that? Even though it was a good solid investment. Hey, there is unfortunately money to be made in exploitation.

It is very similar in the point that I am making.

I suppose back in day, when a teenager with strict parents caught them with a playboy magizine; then tried to use the excuse that I only got it because they have good articles, by some pretty good writers, lol.( Which was to an extent true, from what I heard). I was never very interested in porn. That seems like a very similar thing.

Also look at all the stuff that has been written about the mods on the Discord BL server over the last 2 years. Yes sporadic, but all of it bad. They seem to be giving a drug user website a bad name,lol. Excuse me, a drug harm reduction website.

As it stands they are on an awful platform.( because of the horrible shit they allow). Then the fact that Bluelight server has way too many awful mods.

I am just expressing my objection as a Bluelight member to this site being on Discord. Excuse me, for hating the fact there is apparently a whole lot of predators and sickos on there. The 734 Cult is great example. But there is alot more other awful shit happening on there.

I only signed up because Tronica was looking for cross platform membership and when I was banned I never tried again because I am not of fan of "the platform"'s security problems, not because of content. Discord is IRC with a fancy wrapper and as I said I am not a fan of the "platform" from a security standpoint.
