I am looking for non prescription ways to lower cholesterol. My cholesterol is not high enough to warrant statis thankfully. Fuck statins anyway.

Right now im taking omega 3's and also my doc said to take metamucil. So i might buy some of that. Any help would be appreciated

Stop eating pretty much everything that you have posted in the food thread in the last ~2 years. Just go look at your last 100 posts in that thread, and stop eating those things. That's pretty much it. Start buying fresh food like veggies and fish and chicken, and preparing meals with those fresh ingredients but without mayonnaise or BBQ sauce, and instead use olive oil

I was told by my Cardiologist that if you eat salmon weekly that just that one change will reduce your cholesterol. I usually make salmon patties from canned wild-caught salmon. Tuna fish is good also.

Oatmeal is another food that is said to significantly reduce cholesterol if you include it in your diet daily.

He also told me to use olive oil and of course limit red meat. I did read bison is lower in cholesterol than beef and leaner so I’ve made bison burgers on the grill and they are really good.

Include vegetables and a handful of nuts in your diet daily, and fish a couple times a week.

You definitely want to avoid statins if at all possible, they have terrible side effects. You are doing the right thing trying to get it under control now with diet.

idk I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I think that like 80-90% of it is genetic, which still leave some room yet I see

Your claim makes perfect sense when you consider that there are people who smoke like a chimney stack and drink like a storm drain, and yet still manage to live well beyond their 90s.

But it is true that around 60% of people cannot really handle carbs and should avoid heavy carb loading if they want to maintain a reasonable weight. If you are a heavy athletic trainer, sure, you can load up on carbs, but they should still be slower-digesting carbs, not stuff like maltodextrin or corn syrup, which WILL cause some damage and oxidative stress irrespective of your genetics.

Tbf, polyunsaturated fats like omega 3/fish oil are arguably significant contributors to oxidative stress. I outlined the issue here. They negatively impact steroidogenesis also amongst other things like endocrine function.

So, I guess fish is out. Sardines are out.

What am I supposed to eat?

Perhaps by improving it's rate of utilisation? If steroidogenesis slows down then naturally cholesterol will accumulate.

E is problematic which alludes to inadequate TRT management:

Yes:

  • Cholesterol → steroid hormones
  • Mitochondria are involved
  • T3 affects metabolism
  • Estrogen raises TBG

Misleading:
  • “Low steroidogenesis causes cholesterol buildup”
  • “Estrogen blocks thyroid uptake”
  • “Progesterone stimulates thyroid”
  • the overall causal model implied by the graphic

AllyB @Allylbenzene i could do this all day long.

Be careful.

I had great success with these

blocks cholesterol absorption
Aren t plant sterol s controversial anymore ? They sell these here to, but they used to be controversial, not allowed in Germany my neighboring country.

No experience with Cholesterol lowering .. no clue about my levels atm. Used to be ultra low. Vegetarian 🥕

Are you predesposioned/ genetical or physical. Or is it from a diet/ lifestyle or age related cause. Seems a good point to.

My Mom [still veggie] and her Dad both had their body work against them. My mom is still going veggie. My granddad died before becoming 50 due to heart attack nr ..

A good brand ?

Omega s were controversial while back, they can oxidize. In the supplement or in your skin when taking more then the body needs Like the body used to make them as needed from Linolenic Acid . Last time i looked into this that was .. well a few decades ago. But with all the cheap home brand supplement allover scary thought if it causes Cancer in the long run. Or something else bad. No idea. Just spitting my thoughts.

They negatively impact steroidogenesis also amongst other things like endocrine function.

The evidence that omega-3s or other polyunsaturated fats broadly suppress steroidogenesis or damage endocrine function in humans is weak and inconsistent.

That kinda makes it more serious if i am correct.

Didn t inherit the gene responsible, hopefully. But anecdotally, my Moms bad Cholesterol would skyrocket by just eating heated Cashews. No idea if the steamed whitish ones would to these weren t available or really known back then. Fish now and then is on her menu but the Omega 3 .. questionable reading back the reply s of Steam and Allyl.

Yes, very many things can be genetic and biological. 👍

Which can manifest along with learned behavior.

Everything isn't biological however. Health is also and can be learned behavior.

Thank you for your comments. :kewl:

"Fish oil (specifically omega 3: EPA/DHA) oxidises very easily at body temperature which produces lipid peroxides and secondary oxidation products. These oils are so unstable that they begin to spontaneously oxidise even before they reach the bloodstream. This can involve polymerisation, a property which makes fish oils useful for seasoning cast-iron pans and rendering wood waterproof; the oil forms a plastic-like mass"

Serious  i put cooked Line/ Flax Linolenic acid a omega 3. On my wood haha not my member. And it becomes a plastic like layer in 24/ ... hours depending on condition s. Scary glad i eat dead animals rarely.
