Most people replace their phones every 1-2 years
No they don't - 195 soverign nations on this planet, don't extrapolate from ONE market. Feature phones are still HUGE in entire continents. When even electricity isn't certain, battery life IS the premium metric.
Or did you forget that half of the world's population manages on USD $10/day or less? For such people, price-point is key, they cannot replace just to look 'cool' and designed obsolescence is a deal-breaker. These people don't appear in any of the hype because they aren't potential customers. But povery means people shop VERY carefully.
In those places, SS7 and OTA attacks are very much a thing, as is smishing.
But to be fair, you can't steal the nothing billions of people don't have.
